Anthony Bourdain Appreciation Thread (1 Viewer)

Really enjoyed last night's episode on Laos. Never knew all the history, especially all the secret bombing we did. Or about the 78 million cluster bombs we left as presents for future generations. Really makes ya feel patriotic.

i was having lunch this afternoon here in chicago and a very cool gourmet hot dog joint called "Hot Doug". it's popular and always has a line snaking out the door. we put our order in and go outside to sit. to my left, as i exit, is anthony bourdain and he's gabbing with the locals. has a pretty small crew around him filming. i text K4 because i thought i remembered she had a crush on the guy....

You're a local, aren't you? Did you gab with him?Good to know he's doing Chicago. Been thinking of making a trip up there to see what all the fuss is about. I was there briefly 30+ years ago and all I remember is the Science Museum and the waterfront.

 Got your text! Love that guy. Just somebody I'd really like to have a beer with. Well, he could have a beer, and I'd have wine. Must be doing a Chicago episode? Will have to be on the lookout. Where do you think he'll show up? Kuma's? Mr. Beef? Alinea? (I realize those three have never been listed in that order in the history of the universe.):commencestalking:

I went to a Columbian place for dinner this past Sunday cuz I wanted a fried egg over my steak and fried pork like the episode from a few weeks ago.

Soooo good. :goodposting:

The newer show isn't my favorite, but his Food network show was awesome. Plus, he likes The Simpsons and he thinks monkeys are funny.

I'm sure there are. I know someone that doesn't like pizza :excited:

A couple months ago someone was talking about eating a Kobe hamburger and I broke out the Bourdain quote on why not to eat them. Everyone attacked him for being a pompous jerkoff.

People hate being called out for being stupid I guess. :lmao:

I only know this guy from Top Chef, and to me he is a waste of space. Comes off as a pretentious ########. I can't stand the sight of him or the sound of his voice.

 Columbia was one of my favorite episodes yet.
Yeah, there was a really great pizza place at 114th and Amsterdam when I was there.
V & T's?
 :excited:
they had good pizza if you wanted a whole pie. for a slice, though, nothing in that area beat going around the corner to B'way and Coronet's jumbo slice.

A Coronet slice was about the size of a V&T's pizza. But I only had them at 3 a.m. whilst drunk. In addition to the pizza, though, the sandwiches at V&T's were outstanding. My friend LaVerne (yes) and I would split the chicken parmesan sandwich and be stuffed.

Is there anything Louisa Chu can't do? Not only has her prerecorded run as guest judge for Battle Zucchini just finished, but she's taking a break from a summerlong cheffing stint on a fishing boat in Sitka, Alaska, to serve as fixer for Anthony Bourdain and the No Reservations production team, in town today through early next week to film the long-awaited Chicago episode. Louisa, who made a memorable appearance in the first season's Paris episode (and many on Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie) will be escorting Bourdain and crew to L20, Calumet Fisheries, and Burt's Place, among other locations--including a visit to the Tom Tom Tamale factory and Fat Johnnie's with the distinguished Peter Engler.

Emiril is a complete hack. He deserves it. That scene was mostly Emeril sitting there with the look of "why the #### did I agree to this?" .

SANDRA LEE: Pure evil. This frightening Hell Spawn of Kathie Lee and Betty Crocker seems on a mission to kill her fans, one meal at a time. She Must Be Stopped. Her death-dealing can-opening ways will cut a swath of destruction through the world if not contained. I would likely be arrested if I suggested on television that any children watching should promptly go to a wooded area with a gun and harm themselves. What’s the difference between that and Sandra suggesting we fill our mouths with Ritz Crackers, jam a can of Cheez Wiz in after and press hard? None that I can see. This is simply irresponsible programming. Its only possible use might be as a psychological warfare strategy against the resurgent Taliban--or dangerous insurgent groups. A large-racked blonde repeatedly urging Afghans and angry Iraqis to stuff themseles with fatty, processed American foods might be just the weapon we need to win the war on terror.

Ventured south yesterday to see what the big deal was with Calumet Fisheries. You all need to get down there and check out their smoked shrimp. And smoked fish. Unbelievable stuff. I ate at Sola Friday night, but that fancy #### doesn't have anything on this place when it comes to flavor.(I also stopped at The Original Rainbow Cone at 92nd & Western. It's as good as advertised.)

Calumet Fisheries is in South Deering. Rainbow cone is in Beverly. Both within the city limits.

The Spain episode was insanely good. Going in I had a completely different idea of what type of cuisine Id see. Wow, Spain moved up a few notches on my wish list.

I just saw the "Tokyo" episode. It was good, but it was still disappointing that they spent a 1/3 of it outside Tokyo. There is enough material to do 4 episodes on Tokyo alone, why did they feel the need to spread it around between Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka (which already had its own episode by the way)?

Still, I think they nailed the overall theme of the episode... detail & subtlety.

Just saw the "Spain" episode the other day. Man, it made me want to go to Spain.

I don't know why I never watched No Reservations before a few months ago, but I am completely addicted to it now. I DVR every episode that comes on...I can't get enough of it. Very cool show.

New episodes start tonight.
