Antonio Bryant (1 Viewer)

legend

Has anyone heard about any teams looking at him since he worked out for TB in the off-season? The NFL lifted the remaining two games of his suspension this week so he can start playing any time. I know he had some issues but he averaged 850 yards over the last three seasons in SF and Cle and is just two years removed from a 1000 yard season.

You would think he'd be worth a roster spot somewhere. Especially now that he doesn't have to serve the two game suspension once he's on a roster. He's only 26.

You know in a lot of peoples minds the Titans are in need of a WR upgrade, however I would be surprised if they take a chance on him.

There was speculation earlier in the week that the Titans, Giants, Browns, Texans, and Jaguars may have an interest, but I have not heard anything official.

I thought maybe the Bengals would be interested in looking at him at the 3rd WR. At least until Henry comes back.

Bryant is a TO level headache but I am suprised some teams (Texans especially with AJ out) haven't pursued him...Maybe his character is just that bad :bag:

Gotta think someone will sign him. He'd be an upgrade at WR2 for quite a few teams. And while character issues are a concern, winning football games is a bigger concern.

While I expect some team sign him before too long, this may show you how big a knucklehead this guys is. Tank Johnson is a flat-out criminal, but widely thought to get along with people, work hard, etc. and has a team waitng out 6 weeks to get his services. Bryant in terms of raw talent is probably an upgrade a WR2 in about half the league, and maybe to WR1 to a handful, but has not gotten any team to wait out the equal of an ankle sprain.

I think this is probably true. He is a TO headache without all the upside. He was the most productive receiver in SF last year, and they showed no interest in resigning him. There are a lot of teams that had receiver issues going into training camp, but no one signed him. That leads me to believe that his character issues are really serious, and well known around the league. If he was not a problem I can't imagine why a team like the Vikings, or the Titans didn't sign him before training camp. How could Bobby Wade be seen as a better option?

Because he's not a lunatic?I can't believe that just about everybody posting in this thread is ignoring his CONSIDERABLE downside. Nobody wants this guy, I'd be surprised if he plays again.

The cowboys don't seem to have any issues signing previously suspended players and with TGlenn out indefinetly, I could see them giving him a workout. I have Bryant in my dynasty league and would love to see him in that situation.

The only issue with this is that the Cowboys traded him away for peanuts, even though he had a good season, because he was trouble

I love Antonio Bryant as a rec. He's a horrible football player. I think the NFL is done with his act. The guy is full of piss and vinegar.

I think he ends up in Jacksonville so he can be reunited with Dennis Northcutt. Now there is a tandeom that strikes fear into opposing secondaries.

Dallas got rid of him -- attitude.

Cleveland got rid of him -- attitude.

San Fran got rid of him -- attitude.

Those who don't understand why he hasn't been signed, and are focusing on talent or stats to argue he'd be an upgrade somewhere, are focusing on the wrong thing. Around the NFL the word is out on him. He's a cancer.

AB is a waste of talent..a very immature person. Guys like that wear of their welcomes fast.I would be suprised if anyone picks him up.

I don't even think the Raiders would touch him after the Moss fiasco.

I could see the Chefs taking a chance on him

They have little to lose and they are desparate for help at WR

They have a first-round pick playing the same position that they just invested multiple millions of dollars on. They'd be crazy to bring this nut around him.

My guess is you started watching football in about game 6 of 2004?

for some reason I keep thinking about the Packers. Remember the Andre Rison signing back in the mid-90s?

While I do not dispute any of these claims, I have not seen a specific example of why he is so bad attitude-wise (in this thread). IIRC, he threw his Jersey at Parcells or something in Dallas, but he is ont a legal headache (that I am aware of), nor does he seem to mouth off to the media, ala TO, FredEx, etc. What types of things has he done that would actually lead to his banishment from the NFL? As I said, I am not disouting that you all are correct, I am just curious as to what he has done.

This is the truth. He single-handedly destroyed the team chemistry on those early Parcells Cowboys teams. He's the Latrell Sprewell of the NFL.

I always laugh when I hear that one player "single-handedly" destroyed a team’s chemistry. I live in Dallas and follow the team as close as anyone. Talent aside, with leaders on that team like Woodson, Glover, Cambell, R. Anderson, and Coakley, no 2nd string WR (WR3 behind Keyshawn and Glenn when traded in 04) with the mental make-up of Bryant "single-handedly" destroyed the team chemistry. Yes, he's an idiot and an attitude problem and had issues that were made public. However, I don't remember any talk about that team's chemistry being destroyed. He was a knucklehead that Parcells didn't like so he cut him, no big loss as, again, a WR3 at that point. This is not an excuse but Parcells has never been known as a nurturing or forgiving coach. Maybe someone closer to SF or Cle can but I can't speak of the other two situations but from what I saw from him here, talent vs. attitude, I can't think that someone won't give him a look. Not while there are so many team holes at WR, and so many a-holes out there just as bad as Bryant on rosters today. My prediction is that he will play this year.

I agree. I think it's likely that there was some behind the scenes stuff in SF and CLE that probably contributed to those teams' willingness to part ways with Bryant. But at the end of the day, the NFL is a business. Bryant is better than a lot of guys who are getting heavy playing time for NFL teams. Sooner or later someone is going to take a chance on him.

Rison was a bust in Green Bay. Most "midseason signings of veteran WRs" don't pan out.
Rison did very little in the regular season in 5 games for GB, but he was integral in their Playoff/Superbowl run. Highlighted by a 54yd TD in the Superbowl.
One of only 2 catches in the game for Rison. They won by an average of 17 points per game in the Superbowl run so I'm not sure if I'd call Rison's contributions as "integral", although he definitely put up better numbers than during the regular season.

Still, I wouldn't call him a bust in GB. A fantasy bust, absolutely.
