plasmaDo you guys definitely see a noticeably better picture with a plasma, compared to an LED? Which one is better for viewing sports?
ETA: Recent comparison here.
many would say a good projector beats both, but in terms of flat panels, yesSo watching a football game on a large screen plasma in a completely dark room is about as good as it gets, huh?
Good thing I only need oneOne HDMI input? What year is this?
Yeah, it's not a deal-breaker or anything. Just odd.Good thing I only need oneOne HDMI input? What year is this?
The year where REAL home theater enthusiasts only need 1 HDMI.One HDMI input? What year is this?
Hogwash. I have GADGETS, man!The year where REAL home theater enthusiasts only need 1 HDMI.One HDMI input? What year is this?
I would say a projector only beats a plasma on pure size. Plasmas haven't needed a dark room in years and it sucks that uneducated consumers killed them. I am really hoping that OLEDs come down in price significantly and can get bigger than 55/65 the best of both worlds IMO but it sounds like they really won't.many would say a good projector beats both, but in terms of flat panels, yesSo watching a football game on a large screen plasma in a completely dark room is about as good as it gets, huh?
I haven't needed more than one video input on a monitor since 1997. My preamp/processor or receiver has always had enough to handle anything I wanted.Hogwash. I have GADGETS, man!The year where REAL home theater enthusiasts only need 1 HDMI.One HDMI input? What year is this?

Not anything I have heard about. The industry is saying that 4k will be the next thing and not OLED which will suck so hard. 4k is still running on a ####ty LCD just like everything else right now. Nope. Plasmas pretty much topped out at 64 IIRC. And no one is making them anymore....you get to enjoy the inferiority of LCD now.Is there a bigger version of that TV in post #2 for a similar discount? I already have a 65". Looking to go slightly larger.
If you have ####ty eyes than I agree with you. Bright does not equal good. That's what killed plasmasWe just got a 55" for the bedroom, The ####### thing is so bright and big it gives me a headache. It is too nice for the bedroom. I have even tried turning down the color and brightness. Wow the new sets are just so awesome compared to my 7 year old plasma's.

Bought a plasma 4 years ago and still loving it. They stopped making them? WhyNope. Plasmas pretty much topped out at 64 IIRC. People weren't buying them as LCD has been marketed better. LCDs have gotten and bigger and cheaper.Bought a plasma 4 years ago and still loving it. They stopped making them? WhyNope. Correct. Just would need a 3D TV, 3D Blu-ray player and a 3D blu-ray disc. What 3D content is available right now -- just blu-ray?
Thanks. I can't really tell what the difference is between the TV I linked to and the TV you linked to... other than the model numbers. 8000 vs. 8500.Correct. Just would need a 3D TV, 3D Blu-ray player and a 3D blu-ray disc. What 3D content is available right now -- just blu-ray?

I confused up my model numbers for a second. I meant the 8500 when I said 8000. In terms of what the differences are I'm not entirely sure. My guess is from 2012 to 2013 they went from 8000 to 8500 with the model number. I have never seen the 8000, but I've had quite a bit of hands on time with the 8500 and its a wonderful TV. The closest thing we can get to a Panasonic plasma that would still be in stores.Thanks. This is the 8000 and it says plasma in the title. Is that incorrect? The 8000 is the led. 8500 is the plasma. I bought the 8500 in 64inch last year and am super glad I did. Bar none the best tv I've ever owned. And by the time this one craps out the OLED's should be main stream. If you can find the Samsung F8500, and I believe Amazon is still selling them, buy it. You won't regret it.
It's a sale from what I can tell. Saving $600 dollars. I'm ####### stunned Panasonic discontinued their plasmas. That's an excellent price at Best Buy. Ebay and everywhere else, it's well over $3,000.
Is that BB's normal price or is it a sale which is ending soon?

I'm shocked. I'm a little angry. I'm shuked. I should have bought the better version of the Panasonics when I had the chance to. Oh man. I hope mine lasts a long, long time.
I think these are all their plasmas.

I want a picture that has accurate colors, accurate shadow detail and blacks that don't look grey. I don't want a TV that needs to artificially double, triple or quadruple the frame rate so motion is tolerable. Plasma got a bad rep for burn in and for not being able to be used in bright rooms, both of which haven't been an issue in a long time. Glad I bought a 60" Samsung plasma last year because much like rockaction I regret not grabbing a Panasonic before they disappeared. My Samsung LED looks awesome. Not sure how much better a picture people want, but it's a great picture and these televisions are dirt cheap these days.
