Any 60"+ plasma TV deals? (1 Viewer)

So watching a football game on a large screen plasma in a completely dark room is about as good as it gets, huh?
many would say a good projector beats both, but in terms of flat panels, yes
I would say a projector only beats a plasma on pure size. Plasmas haven't needed a dark room in years and it sucks that uneducated consumers killed them. I am really hoping that OLEDs come down in price significantly and can get bigger than 55/65 the best of both worlds IMO but it sounds like they really won't.
The bolded above doesn't seem to be true. I'm reading a lot of reviews that say that the glare is worse. Why do you think everyone else is wrong?
Well my Panasonic is sitting in a room that has a ton of direct sunlight through a large bay window and zero glare issues.
And glare doesn't seem to be an issue with the model we were talking about yesterday, based on the reviews.

Phenomenal reviews in general, BTW. I'm gonna order it tomorrow unless someone talks me out of it.
I have had several Samsung Plasma's. i can tell you that i have never been let down. I recently purchased the 65" Visio LED. While the tv was less than half the price of the one you listed, it really does not live up to the plasma's picture quality. I honestly don't think you can go wrong.

I was all set to buy the LG 5600 60" plasma today. Looked at it in store & was not impressed. rather stick with my 50" Samsung plasma. So I will wait till I find the right 64/65" now.
Unless you want an LCD you will need to buy much much sooner than later. I figured I would wait till the end of Panasonic's mfg run and prices went up to double their normal prices if you could find anything.

The set that 3C linked is really nice. And with the LG did you actually tweak any of the settings in store?
No tweaking in store. I really want 64/65" anyway 60" is not a big enough upgrade. The right Samsung plasma is $1,300. Not willing to drop that.

Just adding that I'm very sad about the impending death of Plasma technology. I absolutely love the picture quality of my 5-6yr old 50" Panasonic Plasma. The set is simply a workhorse with a brilliant picture. The LED in the bedroom simply isn't even close to the same level.

Tempted to jump on the 5000 to get the 64" plasma before they die off... but I don't think it's in the budget for this holiday season.
I feel likewise regarding the demise of Plasma.

I have a 3 year old 50" Panasonic ST that personally looks much better than any other LED I've seen, including a Samsung 7500 panel that I got my parents this year.

About 2 months ago while browsing a high-end local (Toronto) home entertainment store I asked if by chance they had any Panasonic Plasmas left?

Answer: "We have five 65" ZT's left."

Too pricey and slightly too large for my space, but the news spurred me to look high and low for any remaining ST or VT Panasonic Plasmas (ideally a 60"ST).

After a little searching I found a local chain store with approximately fifteen 60" VT's left across the city, at a decent price no less. After a few days consideration I took one home.

No regrets. It's as magnificent as I expected given reviews and opinion.

So if anyone's squarely in the Panasonic Plasma "camp", and figured as I did that they were gone forever ...

Okay, the reviews for that H5000 look amazing. I'm gonna order it tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up, C's!

If anyone has a working Amazon coupon code for a nice additional discount, I'll take a PM.
BB has the TV at the same price if you prefer them.

This concerns me in regards to waiting for a better deal: "Panasonic left the plasma business a year ago, Samsung and LG left this year." Guess I could be running the risk of this being gone before I find a deal.
I doubt you'll get a better deal by waiting....at least when Panasonic left the market their sets were very scarce in Jan and prices were double. I would get them while you can.
You're probably right.
I scooped up a 60" samsung earlier this year for a ridiculous 600 bucks from Costco...no way the wife is going to let me drop another 1500 for another one so soon after.
Wife: "your" TV is huge, why do you want a bigger one?

Me: It's not quite big enough, I have to strain to read some words (true) and plasma is going away so I have to get this now. I should be able to get some money back by selling the 50".

Too late to turn back now. Bought a "warehouse deal" on Amazon. Pristine contents and accessories, packaging damaged. Save $90 for a damaged box I'll be tossing away. Will be 2 painful CC bills in a row. Tires and college tuition on the last one and the TV on the current one.

Is this a decent deal in their warehouse deals section?

http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-E600i-B3-60-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B00GTE0VJ6/ref=sr_1_158?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1417490024&sr=1-158&keywords=warehouse+deals

728.00 with the $70.00 off for being a prime member, plus free shipping.
I'd stay away from Vizio. They get reviewed well online but I've seen so many die early on in their life span.
I own two already, and one of them is 5+ years old. I have never actually known anyone who had a problem with a Vizio.

Problems with blurring with sports, but for the price they make good TVs.

My 50 inch Panasonic Plasma is tank. Still going strong after 5 plus years.

Ordered the plasma in 3C's link on Amazon. Can't wait to get it.

Question. Will an HD (not blu-ray) disc look fine in a blu-ray player on a plasma screen?

What's a HD (not blu-ray) disc? HD-DVD?
Yeah, I have a blu-ray player, and I have some movies that are HD-DVD but not a blu-ray disc.
they won't play in a blu-ray player, unless it's universal
Okay, I'm totally confused then... ( )I have some sort of 1080 discs that definitely play in my blu-ray player, and they are definitely not blu-ray discs. So what the hell are they?
I'm shuked. Need more details

It came today. It shore is purdy.

And glare doesn't seem to be an issue with the model we were talking about yesterday, based on the reviews.

Phenomenal reviews in general, BTW. I'm gonna order it tomorrow unless someone talks me out of it.
The glare isn't awful by any means, much better than it was on older plasmas. I have a ton of windows and direct light. To say there's no glare would be a lie but it's not enough to make me angry. But the picture at night is well worth whatever small issues of glare there is during the day. Absolutely phenomenal TV, I couldn't be more happy I bought it when I did.
Thanks to whomever recommended this TV. I finally got it set up in my new place and I'm blown away by the picture quality. Paired it with a Vizio sound bar and it's pretty awesome. I was driving myself crazy trying to find the perfect settings. So many different picture modes fine tuning to tinker with. A couple of observations; the main (and really only) flaw with plasma I've noticed so far is that it's not very kind to gentlemen in checkered blazers. The small pattern on the jacket gets distorted badly. And as GREAT as the picture looks from at least ten feet away, do not walk up close to the screen. Not a pretty sight at close proximity. Overall, stunning television.

No problem. Enjoy it! What size did you get?

I'm watching this thing on PBS right now about the Italians who immigrated to America in the late 19th century. The quality of this presentation is indescribable. The B&W still photos in HD are unbelievable. How does PBS offer the best HD quality?
