After the Rain

The big thing I picked up is that the Saints rookie WR Meachem looks a little lost to me. He made a nice catch on the TD whcih might get some excitement from people but I would say he looks like #4 WR on the Saints at best.

What are some of the things you guys saw?

Brian Leonard = versatilityI'm pretty sure that I have Leonard ranked higher than the rest of the staffers here, but I love his talent. I was hoping to see him got to a team with more of a need at RB, but he'll still get touches spelling Steven Jackson, and if Jackson ever gets hurt.. Leonard could have tremendous upside in that offense. Leonard ran well and caught the ball well Friday night. He's a good value pick in rookie/dynasty drafts... still.

Laurent Robinson without vick in his way was be able to showcase his talents. He's better than Ginn, Jarrett, Bowe and Meachem.

I watched the first half of the Vikings game. Adrian Peterson did not get many holes but he runs really fast and hard. If he can stay healthy he will be a beast. They also threw to Troy Williamson a ton and he played a pretty solid game. Troy Williamson may pass his ADP by quite a bit. They as a unit looked like a young offense that will certainly have some struggles too.

Not quite, but close. I agree with everything you said.

:goodposting:

Defensively for the Vikings I was really impressed by Doss. He came up and made a lot of nice tackles and he already looks like the leader of the defense.

from what I saw....

Brian Leonard = :goodposting:

Lance Moore, WR, NO - Could be WR3 in NO. Also KR. Looks like the new TCopper.

Tyler Palko (QB, NO) - better than expected.

CJ2 - no surprise. He's good.

Tarvaris looks like he's getting more comfy, and that's a good thing. Still needs WR help.

Fred Jackson,RB, BUF - Scored a TD and looked quick and shifty.

(Saw NO/BUF, DET/CIN, parts of the rest).

Fred Jackson,RB, BUF - Scored a TD and looked quick and shifty.
Yeh, I walked in as he scored the TD and I did a double take.. was that Dwayne Wright? Shaud Williams? Looked too quick to be A-Thomas.. I have to confess that I don't know much about Jackson, and it's only a preseason game, but he did look pretty quick and that TD run was a nice one.

I agree here. One of the more pleasant surprises last night. I wonder if he played well enough to get some carries with the first team later in preseason?

Anybody else starting to think that McAllister won't come close to last years #'s?

I can understand not playing in the HOF game but he looked average at best

last night and looks a little out of place in that hi-powered passing offense.

This guy has tremendous value in dynasty leagues. People have been completely sleeping on him because of the qb situation in Atlanta. Guess what? Michael Vick was an atrocious passer! Joe Horn is 78 and the 25 1st round receivers have all dissapointed thus far. Robinson has a great opportunity to become the # 1 in 2 years.

watched some live and some on NFL network replays here's who stood out IMO:

Henderson WR NO--rumors he has to play well in training camp to get #2 WR, he is, looks like a true deep threat should out perfom his ADP

Williamson WR MN-- Jackson looked his way all the time, and the kid caugth 3 nice passes, lets see what happens next week but could be a nice sleeper.

Leonard RB Rams--I think he looks the best of any rookie RB at this point, plain and simple if you draft Jackson, back it up with this kid, I look for him to get 6-10 touches per game spelling Jackson, more if the Rams defense is really improved and the Rams get a large lead in the 4th quarter of games. I be taking him late in all of my FF drafts.

T.Jones RB Jets, doesn't look like he has loss a beat moving to the Jets, Washington will spell him, but I think Jones gets the TD's.

Harrington Atl, he may show the world that Alt WR's were not bad, just Vicks passing. Need to see more of Joey before you can say he is draftable.

Guys who need work:

AP RB MN didn't seem to have his timing down, susprised Vikes ran him as much as they did coming off of the hip pointer, it's early, and Hutch did't play.

Colston NO, didn't seem to respond to breaking the coverage he was getting.

As I noted in the Jets/Falcons game thread, keep an eye on Roddy White. He was targeted early on a handful of the first plays. To be sure, Crumpler wasn't in there IIRC, and it's only a small sample, but something to watch.

While I like him, I think it is a stretch to say he is better than the above after one preseason game against backup defensive players.

this and remember defenses are not showing there real stuff. Gotta be carefull judgeing pre season games. I gareentee you players are not seeing the real defense in preseason even when starters are in. Coaches are real good at not showing the real alignments.

ex: of Minny can't score in preseason imagine when they start playing against a real NFL defense during regular season!

Went to the NO vs BUF game last night, few things that stuck out to me.

Meachem is gonna take time to get where they want him to be, if he ever gets there. I wouldnt count on him making WR#3 this year. On the same topic, Lance Moore showed alot of talent. He could very easily slide past copper into that #3 spot, and may be the guy who ends up with return duties.

Freddy Jackson is DEFINITELY worth keeping an eye on. I knew nothing about this guy going into the game, and have yet to look him up, but I will be. He showed alot of quickness and good moves last night.

Palko is better then expected, still needs alot of work, but better then expected. He's my pick to go into week one as QB 2 now.

edit: All the talk about Devery closing the door on the #2 wr race seems to be true. He looks better, lets hope he's not hurt

Hence my comment about his value in dynasty leagues. Do I think he will be the starter this season? Probably not, he would have to catch a lot of breaks. But there is no reason to think he can't nab a starting position, and thrive, in year # 2. That is great value. He has had a great camp, and is continuing it through his first preseason game.

After watching most of the first half of ATL/NYJ, that was a comment made by the announcers regarding the Jets' Red Zone D. Norwood blasted in from 10 yards out for a TD against a base 3-4 defense. The Jets would have put in a different package in the regular season.

I just got done watching the Rams game...Leonard looked very ordinary to me. I would be surprised if he's ever a fantasy factor.

The following stood out to me:

Devery Henderson looking like fantasy starter material

Troy Williamson

Roddy White starting ahead of Jenkins

Harrington better than expected

:goodposting: Yeah, I wonder the same thing. He's obviously gonna get some since they will continue to go RBBC, but he won't touch his numbers. I have a feeling he demands a trade soon....

What were your thoughts on Bush? Reggie Bush.

Same is true, probably more so, on the offensive side of the ball. Teams probably use less than 25% of their playbook in the preseason.

As a Saints homer, I completely disagree. I think Deuce will IMPROVE in 2007 for these reasons:1. One more year removed from knee injury.2. Has shown up in camp closer to his weight in 02/03, when he was a truly elite back.3. Payton has one more year to figure out how to use Deuce and Bush together.4. Even moreso than last year, team's will be putting all their attention on Bush, opening up room for Deuce. And let's not forget, Deuce is still the starting RB for the Saints. When the starting offense was introduced last night in the Dome, it was Deuce they introduced, not Bush. And if you honestly think Deuce is going to demand a trade this season, you don't know what Deuce is all about.

As a homer what are your thoughts on Bush? And have you sent a thank you card to the Texans yet?

It's always a little upsetting when the media focuses SO MUCH on Bush without giving attention to Deuce, who many of us consider to be the true heart and soul of this team. But it's also hard to blame them. Reggie is going to light it up this year.

VERY small sample size and the OL didn't help much, but I've suspected that all along. Tough call tho.I think Harrington will be a draftable QB2 and show he isn't so pathetic as people assume. I've thought that all along also.I also agree Henderson appears to be the real deal as WR2 for NO.I think Pennington will have another ho-hum/up n down year and not be the starter next year.I think if the BUF WRs not named Evans can play at least half-decent, both Evans and Losman will have good years - perhaps very good. He looks so much more comfortable out there now.I think MB3 and JJ owners will be driven nuts by them if counted on to start.Again it's only one game but I have to wonder about that Fasano kid, maybe even to the point of seeing a lot more 2 TE sets from DAL if (for ex) Glenn gets hurt or age catches up w/him.

Harrington has one decent preseason game against vanilla defenses and all of a sudden he is a viable QB2? :potkettle: Henderson injured his hamstring.Pennington is locked in for this year. Don't get overexcited about Clemens playing a preseason game. He was impressive, but it is preaseason. I am encouraged about him long term. Evans was fine last year with no help and should be fine again. Agree with both Dallas takes. Julius has pretty good value right now in drafts.
