Sammy Morris? Lamont Jordan? Morris was a huge WW pick up for me last year and neither went drafted in my league this year. Who gets the goalline this year? DY, any input?

With Marshall out having trouble deciding on a flex.

My take has been the following . . .

Maroney 50% of the carries, 10% of the receptions, some goal line work (when healthy)

Morris 20% of the carries carries, 10% of the receptions, some goal line work

Jordan 15% of the carries, 30% of the receptions, some goal line work

Faulk 10% of the carries, 50% of the receptions, limited rushing attempts at the goal line

Evans 5% of the carries, hardly any time on passing downs, occasional vultured TD (mostly in garbage time)

If you need a flex guy this week, Jordan might not be a bad choice given that he will be playing the Faulk role this week with Faulk suspended.

I think the Pats will rush 30-35 times this week, so plan accordingly. I doubt Watson will play and with OL health issues, from what I've read people think it will have a negative impact on the running game (perhaps more than in the passing game).

Hope that helps . . .

that's pretty ugly. damn you to hell RBBC

Big Jordan fan. Should he get hurt, I'm a big Morris fan.

Last year before he got hurt, Morris kept defenses honest because he was a threat in both the running and passing game. Maroney, for whatever reason, was basically used in the running game and defenses could key on that (unless the D was really bad in which the Pats could do what they wanted). With the Pats having some pass protection problems in the preseason, keeping defenses honest will be a huge key for them. I think Jordan is a better version of Morris for this. He was the best RB in the preseason and if he comes close to his September 2007 form (before the back injury), he'll quickly become a fan favorite.

I actually could see Lamont Jordan playing the role that Corey Dillon played 2 years ago. Jordan and Maroney splitting carries with each getting 180-210 carries for the season. And Jordan getting the goal line work. If Jordan is as good a receiver as he was initially with the Raiders, I could even see Faulk being let go at some time. Just my opinion. No concrete facts or info to back it up.

Here's some elementary math for you:

Maroney = Robert Smith

Lamont Jordan = 2007 Sammy Smith - the amount of regular snaps

Kevin Faulk = temporarily suspended + will be 3rd down back upon his return.

all the above = :)

Maroney will play on 1st and 2nd down between the 20's. Sprinkle in LJ, SM, and Faulk throughout the year. I wouldn't want any of them.

Let's not forget that when NE gets in the redzone, they bring in all those TE's and LB's and take out all the RB's.

There was no way in hell I was gonna draft Maroney before the 4th or 5th round. I'd rather take my chances on a Tim Hightower or Maurice Morris and Chris Perry.

Maroney will get 70% Bank on it.. I tookm him in my $$$ draft and im $$$ when I draftr for $$$
Thanks for your opinion. But up until now there has been NOTHING to suggest that the Pats share your opinion.
LM did average 20 carries per game over the last 6 games of the '07 season including playoffs, with four 100yd games and 7 TDs. I think he is being undervalued on this board.

Who else did the Pats have to run the ball in those 6 games? Pretty much no one. Also, the Pats know they need Maroney in the playoffs (just like last year) and will again baby him until that point. THey can win in the regular season without him. They can't win in the post season without him.If Maroney were really intended to have been an every down, workhorse back, I doubt they would have added Morris last year. And I REALLy would wonder why thwy explored other RBs all offseason witha HEALTHY Maroney in the fold. So now they have Morris AND Jordan.Maroney has now had 20 carries 4 times in 33 games. He generally gets the ball 15-17 times if he's playing and the team has any inclination to run the ball. But if the team opts for a pass heavy game plan, there will be weeks where he will see the ball in single digits . . . which has happened 9 times in his career (twice the # of times he's had 20 carries). He doesn't (normally) play on passing downs and is not a true goal line back (the team uses all their backs at the goal line). And let's not forget the first option deep in the red zone should again be Moss, Welker, TEs, and LBs masquerading as TEs.Add it all up, and I again see limited carries, health questions, RBBC, hardly any receptions, and limited goal line looks. Since his ADP has fallen compared to last year (late first round pick to third round pick this year), he probably is not a horrible pick . . . just don't expect huge totals.

(late first round pick to third round pick this year),
was he really late first last year?lolI can't remember, but I think he might've gone in the second in my league, and I thought that was way high.the guy tried to trade him to me, then maybe, and I can't remember...ended up cutting him in disgust.or traded him for garbage, maybe.

I remember him going somewhere between 10-15 in the leagues I was in, so somewhere near the turn in a 12-team league. The main selling point was that someone had to absorb the 960 yards and 13 TD Dillon had the year before (with Maroney being the leading candidate). Clearly that didn't happen.MFL's ADP records have him with an ADP of 12 last year. :hot:

I think you'll see Maroney and Jordan about equal in touches, with Morris and Faulk getting the scraps. Of course this is at the end of the season. During the season you may see games where Maroney gets 80% of the RBs touches, and other games where Jordan does. I've never been as high on Maroney as some other guys here are, but I was never high on Jordan either - so for whatever it's worth, I don't think either of these guys are going to be good starters for an FF team.

it feels safe to say that we are all guessing when it comes to predicting the pats running game.

if all are healthy, yudkin's predictions look as good as any to me.

in situations like these, though, i think the value is generally in the backups. when maroney's starting, chances are it'll generally be a 3 or even 5 man job. if lamont or sammy ever get a start, it means maroney's hurt they'll have something a tad closer to a full load than maroney gets when he starts.

i like the talent of both, but i like jordan a little better than morris for a very unscientific, subjective reason: the "i'm a genius" effect.

shanny has it, so does belichick. winning is fun. winning with the cast-offs of other teams is even more fun. winning new cast-offs from other teams in back to back years is even more fun than that. winning with the twice cast-off RB that could've been your biggest division rivals RB of the future seems like it would be even more fun.
