Any Multi-focalContactGuys/eye docs out there? :hey: (1 Viewer)

"Don't grumble, give a whistle!"
In my early 40's I came to terms with the fact that Father Time had decided reading glasses were in order. Due to the nature of my job- office setting/computer work- I decided to go with the progressive lenses. It turns out over time I needed a boost for distance as well. My experience with them has been great except for one thing:

I HATE WEARING ####### GLASSES!! :yucky:

A combination of equal parts them being a pain in the ###, denial and vanity. Okay. Maybe not equal parts... Every year since I have inquired about exploring contacts and have been told that with my astigmatism I was not a candidate for them... :(

...UNTIL THIS YEAR! :excited:

Apparently great strides have been made in the last 2 years. I decided to try out the multi-focal lenses and their 2 week lifetime over a combination of straight up daily disposable lenses for distance/reading glasses, and the other choice- one lense for reading in one eye and one for distance in the other. My wife is trying those out but to me that's just nuts :loco: !

So, here I am- day one. Everything within 6-8' is pretty much incredible. No glasses! Sure, I have to adjust my distance from the target a little, but it works for me. No glasses! Beyond that I am not happy. It's almost as though I am not wearing any corrective lenses at all. Did I say, "Not happy?"

The questions I have for any Multi-focalContactGuys or eye docs is: Does this get better? Can the prescription be adjusted?

Or is this all I get?

TIA

:blackdot: I'm going in for my first optometrist appointment since I had RK in 1996 next week. My reading vision is awful... been wearing "readers" for a few years that I got at Target. Now my distance vision is starting to go. Pretty sure I have an astigmatism in my right eye. Not sure I will be able to deal with glasses full time. Hoping progressive contacts will work.

Radial Keratonomy - before LASIK was available

Aaahh. I've never even inquired about Lasik surgery. Wonder if I'm a candidate for that.

Don't recall ever having seen the red before... :oldunsure:

I did the one eye for distance and one eye for reading way and have had no real problems. The only time I really notice is when I take a sip of a drink and cover whatever eye I am using at the time. It took me almost no time to get used to it although he did under correct the distance the first time but got it fixed and everything is great now.

The reason I did this way is he said this way works for ~60% of the people who try it while the multi-focals only work for ~20% of the people who try it. If it hadn't worked we would have tried the multi-focal solution but like I said no real problems.

Are those disposables- wear and toss- or extended wear??

Extended wear. I almost never sleep in them (only occasionally dozing off on the couch) and wear them for about 3 - 4 weeks then toss. They are Air Optix and one is for astigmatism.

If these work out for me vision wise, the biggest drawback I see is that they aren't daily wear/disposable. I do several extended backpacking/camping excursions a year. I'm not sure one can stay on top of the cleaning multiple days in primitive conditions.

Of course, I'm a rookie and would love input from veteran extended wear peeps...
