Any news on Barber? (1 Viewer)

X-rays negative.

Appears to be more of a cartilage issue.

Nothing a flak jacket couldn't cover as far as putting him in the lineup next week.

Hah, I stepped out for a minute and Jones was in there. I figured it was just because they were mopping the floor with the Brownies so much they felt they could sit Barber.

Dont think to hear news like this, but I dont think this would limit himm much next week, no?

No, it opens the door for a miracle season for Cassell. You know, the guy who gets to throw to Moss.
As soon as I find something out, I'll post it in the Cowboys thread.
Why bury injury information of an important player in a thread not dedicated to that player?
Probably because there will be 10,000 idiots pointing him to a thread that is 10 pages long and was started in early August.

That still hurts really bad. Flak Jacket and injection before the game. And BTW other than Felix's TD...he did not look so hot. Choice is more of the down hill runner. Barber was a beast as usual...he is in line for a monster year no question.

Is that an injury you can play with?

Yep...if you can tolerate the pain.

Oh, I couldn't agree more, on both counts.I dealt with a cartilage issue of this kind in my past. Had difficulty breathing at times. With that being said, yes, some cortisone and a flak jacket should get Barber by just fine.

huh? Was I watching the same Cowboy game as you? 9 carries for 62 yards when cleveland was expecting dallas to run the ball. Even if you take away his so-called one good run where he ran over 2 brownies to bull into the end zone, its still works out to be 8 carries for 51 yards. You are right, thats not hot.

Oh yeah. If nobody's waken up to the point of Felix Jones being a dynamite back just yet, they're obviously missing the boat.More value for us, and those who have 20/20 vision.

Not trying to hijack this thread but would you hold on to Felix or try to deal him the Barber owner?

Just ignore this post if it's not to belong.

Per Roto World and their two cents:

X-rays came back negative on Marion Barber III's ribs Sunday.

He left Sunday's game and didn't return, but perhaps only because Dallas had a three-touchdown lead. Barber is probably day to day. Still, make sure he practices this week. He's got an extra day to get healthy because the Cowboys face Philadelphia on Monday Night Football in Week 2.

Hold on!Much more to come. Think BTO "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet."
I hear ya. I am huge on Felix but I was just trying to be unbias and think Fantasy lol.
To be honest, I didn't see alot of him during the preseason because I never thought he was going to drop to me in our rookie draft. But there he was and I had to take him just on the hype. I was watching the game and at halftime, I was thinking, they haven't even put this guy on the field for one single play, this guy must be a bust. When he finally did play I was stunned by excitement. Sure there were big holes by the line, but thats part of the situation he is in. Is that O-line going anywhere...I think not. Also, there have been many sharks in here who have spoken to whether or not Barber can be a 20-25 carry back. First game showed me what I needed to see. Barber looked awesome 1st half, not so much 2nd half, like he was running out of gas. I think he gets too excited, expends too much energy celebrating his runs...Make the future for felix brighter....s

i have nothing to base this on other than perception but it seems to me that if there is any running back who could tolerate pain it is Marion the Barbarian.

Per Rotoworld-

Marion Barber was optimistic about the injury to his ribs after Sunday's game.

"I’m good. It’s all right. Nothing to worry about," Barber said. He claimed the reason he wasn't allowed back in the game in the fourth quarter was totally "precautionary" and that he'll be fine for Monday's game against the Eagles.

Cowboys running back Marion Barber suffered damaged cartilage to his ribs and X-rays were negative. He said after the game he would be all right and could have kept playing if needed. Maybe Barber's ribs aren't that bad. He was carrying his own duffle bag over his shoulder and pulling his suitcase out of the locker room. Could you do that with ribs killing you?Quarterback Tony Romo cut his chin after being heavily pressured by the Browns in the third quarter. He needed 13 stitches and X-rays were negative on his left hand. He spent several minutes in the locker room long after all the players were gone getting stiches on the training table.- Rick Herrin

I actually think Felix Jones looked very good....but more telling than that....was WHOEVER the starting running back is on Dallas with that passing game and that offensive line....is in for a monster year....If you have Barber....better get Jones as a backup.....if you don't have Barber and have room on your roster Jones is a good prospect....just my take on game after watching it....

Barber's quotes are very reassuring. He must have injured the ribs during that fantastic 3rd down catch where he fought his way just barely to the 1st down... a very nice effort. No reason to jeopardize him when the game was well in hand. Hopefully much ado about nothing.

I'm pretty sure I've read that T. Choice is Barber's backup, not Jones. Jones will play every week. Choice plays when Barber is hurt or tired.

This is CORRECT.

Jones did look good...let me clarify my earlier post. What I mean by not so hot was I have seen some insane hype on him (like our Chris Johnson thread). I think Felix Jones is that COP that people thought CJ3 would be. He is a nice complimentry back. I just do not see Felix Jones as a feature back because I see him going down on ankle tackles....all the time. Tashard Choice is a downhill runner who does not go down on first contact. He is a very steady guy who I think will share time with Felix I am talking at elast 50/50 if Marion the Barbarian were to ever miss some games.

Felix is a homerun hitter no doubt and Dallas has a very dynamic back field with all 3 of those runners. They are loaded!!!

Great to see that sound bite for Barber though. I love the guy!!! (mancrush here).

He dragged 2 defenders on his first carry for an 11 yard TD. He showed a huge burst through the holes (Yes some were big) and was almost gone to the races on 2 other carries. He is going to be murder on opposing defenses in the 4th Q. Not to mention he was not targeted out of the backfield for any passes. Just wait for that. What's not to like about the kid? His blocking could use a little work from a consistency point as I have seen him do it right in the pre-season.

I think the problem with Jones is that he can't block. A big problem in pass protection, not that they needed it yesterday.

I totally agree that he needed to a do a better job agaisnt McGinnest, but it was 1 play. A little perspective please. He did a great job in the pre-season and there was another play in this game where he correctly identified the blitzer on the opposite side of the field and slid over to pick him up and allow Romo time to make the pass. He can block and will be just fine, he's a smart kid with loads of talent.

The Dallas coaches are going to be disturbed when they watch film. McGinnest tossed Jones to the side like a rag doll and it caused an interception. As nice as it is to have a nice new hotrod like Felix Jones in the garage, the Cowboys aren't going to trust the health of Tony Romo to any rookie that can't play a more signifcant role in pass blocking. Jones showed that he has lots of work to do in that facet of the game.

Marion Barber is fine and will get the majority of carries again this week. Romo is their ticket to the promised land and until Jones learns to protect better they won't compromise Tony's health.

Coming from a Barber owner, I feel Barber will definitely lose carries to Jones for the time being. The split was 90/10, but could be closer to 60/40 during the next few weeks.

Unfortunately their bye is not until Week 10.

really, i thought FJ looked good when he carried the ball. not a bad first NFL game imo. you could see the homerun potential for sure. he will improve at picking up the blitz. that said, MB3 will far and away be the bell cow on this team. FJ will work in, but shouldn't hurt MB3's value. i could see them getting more plays incorporated for FJ as the yr goes on. for now they're not gonna put too much pressure on him. Choice looked good as well. i'm very happy with the two rookie RB's Dallas drafted, so far.this team looked very prepared yesterday. they went into a hostile dog pound and looked in mid-season form. bring on the eagles!

rib injuies are painful, but as long as it's not affecting his breathing, he'll be fine. MB3 is a warrior and he'll play through the pain.

And BTW other than Felix's TD...he did not look so hot.
 Give me a freakin' break, you've got to be kidding me.On his TD he showed power, blowing through two guys at the GL to score. And that was what everyone questioned. He averaged nearly 7 YPC, and you say he didn't look good? Are you kidding me? What the heck were you watching?!

I know.....the analysis in this thread is somewhat lacking at the moment. This is the last week imo.....to get Felix fairly cheap.

CLEVELAND — Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens first shook his legs. He then got down in a sprinter’s stance and acted as if he were taking off.

Though he was flagged for excessive celebration on the play following a 35-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, it was Owens’ tribute to Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt.

It also was a fitting metaphor for the beginning of a Cowboys season that is all about winning gold at the end.

The Cowboys’ 28-10 victory against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday was almost as easy and effortless as Bolt’s efforts in Beijing.

The only hiccups were 11 penalties for 82 yards and an injury to running back Marion Barber, who left the game in the third quarter with cartilage damage to his ribs.

Postgame X-rays were negative for broken ribs, although owner Jerry Jones said Barber will have to play in pain for a few weeks. Barber said "I’m good" and could have returned if necessary.

"It’s all right," Barber said. "Nothing to worry about."

On the field, the Cowboys had few worries with the Browns.

The Browns were 10-6 last year, including a 7-1 record at home, and just missed the playoffs, and they came into the 2008 season with playoff hopes.

But it was the Cowboys who seem ready to live up to their own lofty preseason expectations of Super Bowl or bust.

"I was worried to death here," Jones said. "I was worried sick about coming here and playing [this] team."

Jones didn’t worry long. The Cowboys led 21-7 in the second quarter and 28-7 in the third quarter following an 11-yard touchdown run by rookie running back Felix Jones, who replaced the injured Barber.

Any concerns about Barber were put to ease by Felix Jones, who rushed nine times for 62 yards. Barber had 80 yards and two touchdowns before he left, helping the Cowboys to 167 yards on the ground.

Credit goes to a dominant performance by the offensive line, which also kept quarterback Tony Romo largely unscathed. A third-quarter scrum left Romo with a gash that required 13 stitches, but he completed 24 of 32 passes for 320 yards and the touchdown to Owens, usually with time to spare.

It was the 11th 300-yard passing game of Romo’s career, which ranks second in club history.

"We left some points out there," said receiver Patrick Crayton, who caught six passes for 82 yards. "We should have put up 42. As you can see, it doesn’t matter what running back we put in there; those five guys up there are still leading the way. We’re still able to churn out yards. It was a good day offensively."

Aside from a second-quarter drive, it was a good day for the Cowboys’ defense as well. A Browns offense that featured Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Anderson, Pro Bowl tight end Kellen Winslow and Pro Bowl receiver Braylon Edwards was held in check. Anderson passed for 114 yards, and Edwards caught two passes for 14 yards. Winslow caught five passes, but just one in the second half.

"It was great, especially against an offense like that at home," linebacker Zach Thomas said. "We did real well. But it’s all about being dominant later in the year."

Yes, while Sunday in Cleveland was easy as Usain Bolt in China, later in the year and later in the season is all that matters to the Cowboys, who say this is just the beginning of their run to the gold medal.

"It will look easy if we are doing the necessary things we are supposed to do," Owens said. "This is part of the preparation for us for where we need to go."
