Any word on E Manning? (1 Viewer)

Can a coach really deem a player who is out for over a month as day to day? Gotta figure the NFL would step in if that was the case. Eli sounded upbeat - if he was out longer I think he would be a little more down. I predict he misses one game for what its worth
:goodposting: They can say whatever they want about his injury status. As long as they report the truth on the injury report then there's nothing the NFL can do.
Even still.... The Gaints can play a game of cat and mouse all month long. They can say "Eli didn't practice; but he looks ready to go" all week long; then undress him before the game an say "Eli feels stiff and sore and will not play today". Honestly... what can the NFL do. As long as the Gaints report wether or not Eli practices; theres no penalty for this. Nor should there be.

:no:They have to list his practice participation on Wed. amd his status for the game - truthfully - on Sat. "Did not Practice all week" and then "questionable" for the game and then declared "inactive" would generate a slap from the NFL. What can the NFL do? They can fine the team a hefty sum of money is pretty much their only recourse (plus instructing their officials to call Giants' games very tight, or assigning poor refs to Giants games, or being generally unpleasant)That is why I asked a while back in this thread whether anyone thought Mort was correct and that the Giants are being hush hush until they must report something. Is a sprained AC joint as bad as a shoulder separation?I think the 2nd opinion is wise, and I think it is funny that Manning is seeking it. He'd only be seeking a second opinion if he didn't believe the prognosis from the Giants' docs. Now, all this said, if Coughlin is playing a B.S. game with his star/franchise QB, we will see him GONE very fast.

:goodposting: Teams do this all the time.

Uh, no. Questionable means 50% chance of playing on Sat. Probable still allows for 25% chance that they don't play if there's a setback, etc. And a team can choose to make someone inactive even if they're not on the injury report at all. I think any sanctions would come in reporting that someone did practice when they didn't or vice versa. I also don't think that "assigning poor refs" is a sanction - that's just a silly statement. Come on, Marc.

It's not a "sanction" it's reality - if the NFL feels the Giants are playing a game with the injury report, the Giants become the teram that gets no love from the NFL on such decisions.shadyridr - teams don't do that "all the time" If a major player is listed as probable and then is made inactive, the NFL would throw a hissy fit. Same with being questionable after not practicing all week. The reaosn they instituted the practice participation designation is so they can guage the accuracy of a "questionable" designation on Sat.The days of Jeff Fisher being able to list all his players as either qu or out are over.

Manning may practice this week

Tuesday, Sep 11, 2007

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning still intends to at least try to practice on Wednesday, though various team sources said it's much more likely that he won't fully participate until Thursday or Friday.

Those inside and outside the organization are saying the most he'll miss is one or two games, but he could be ready to play by Sunday. It all depends on how he feels when he tries to practice, which won't be known until Wednesday.

Not good IMO:

(KFFL) Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning (shoulder) will visit Dr. James Andrews this week for a second opinion on his shoulder. The Giants are confident in their diagnosis of a sprained A-C joint, according to sources. Manning intends to try to practice Wednesday, Sept. 12, but it is more likely he will not fully participate until later in the week.
i'm pretty sure i read that andrews will look at the mri, but eli is not going to see him for exam. i'll look for it.okay, here it is:

"Just to be sure, Manning's MRI will be reviewed this week in Alabama by orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, though Manning has no plans to travel there himself. "
