ESPN Radio says Eli is denying their initial report of 1 month. Eli says MRI revealed just a bruise and it is a week-to- week injury.
Mort however stands by his report.
Mort however stands by his report.
This is borderline sigworthy. I need to think on this one. Good work!Lorenzen was pretty mobile at Kentucky as well. He's like a fat, white Vince Young.
Yup.I was just commenting that we need not take any source - includiong one as highly respected as Mortenson - as gospel when theyare merely communicating rumors. As an aside, before my comment gets mixed with the one above it, Mortenson is not an idiot - his reporting on injuries before games on Sunday is awesome. When he reports something as NEWS, he is almost always dead on.Even though I trust the news sources, Lorenzen still may have to start this week, so there is discussion that is merited there.
Hard not to believe Mort since he was so dead on with all his Michael Vick reporting.ESPN Radio says Eli is denying their initial report of 1 month. Eli says MRI revealed just a bruise and it is a week-to- week injury. Mort however stands by his report.

"The Pillsbury Throwboy",[3] "J.Load",
My two faves. Great get BustedKnucklesSupposedly media was allowed in the locker room at 5:15 and a press conference is at 6.I am going to go watch Eli on ESPN....someone said he will be on at the top of the Hour...we will know the truth pretty soon.
Farley was more mobile.More like a Chris Farley that is alive and can throw.So...he's like a fat STEVE Young? That throws lefty.Lorenzen was pretty mobile at Kentucky as well. He's like a fat, white Vince Young.![]()

FWIW, Mort was just on again saying that he knows there are conflicting reports but that he is sticking with his sources.Mort missed the boat big time on Vick, but everyone drops the ball once in a while. We're in season now and Mort is usually pretty accurate. We'll see how he fares on this one.Coughlin press conf on WFAN - Eli DOES NOT have a separated shoulder - day to day - not ruled out for this week!!!!!!
Whew (says a Burress owner).Although, shoulder injuries are very easy to reaggravate. This thing has me a little worried long term. If I can sell high on Burress this week, I'm doing it.Hard not to believe Mort since he was so dead on with all his Michael Vick reporting.ESPN Radio says Eli is denying their initial report of 1 month. The Battleship Lorenzen is a favorite of mine.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Lorenzen
In the 2006 preseason, Lorenzen led his team to victory by engineering a game-winning drive against the Baltimore Ravens. Following that performance and an impressive training camp he was officially named the Giants backup quarterback three weeks later.
Because of his size he has a collection of colorful nicknames, including "Quarter(got)back",[1] "Hefty Lefty",[2] "The Pillsbury Throwboy",[3] "J.Load",[4] "Round Mound of Touchdown",[4],"BBQ (Big Beautiful Quarterback)".[5] and "J-Lo."
The coach just said he was wrong - it is not spearated - Eli is sore and is day to day. Wide-Lo is the backup but Coughoin said he was not ruling Eli out this week. He specifically refuted the ESPN repot and said he had no idea where that came from. Is Mort saying that he knows more than the coach?FWIW, Mort was just on again saying that he knows there are conflicting reports but that he is sticking with his sources.Mort missed the boat big time on Vick, but everyone drops the ball once in a while. giants.com frontpage tooMortensen needs to admit he was wrong if what Eli, Coughlin, NY Daily News, NY Newsday, etc are all saying is true.
If not, his credibility goes further in the toilet.
Unless I've missed something, it's not like Mort saw the actual MRI results and made a diagnosis - some inside source told him one month, and that's what he's sticking to.Yup.I was just commenting that we need not take any source - includiong one as highly respected as Mortenson - as gospel when theyare merely communicating rumors. As an aside, before my comment gets mixed with the one above it, Mortenson is not an idiot - his reporting on injuries before games on Sunday is awesome. While I hope this is true.....the Giants team site also says Umenyiora is "day to day" when even his agent said he's be out a month.giants.com frontpage tooMortensen needs to admit he was wrong if what Eli, Coughlin, NY Daily News, NY Newsday, etc are all saying is true.

He said that he trusts his source and is sticking with the source's story at this time. I'm not saying Mort's right, just reporting what was on the news. Again, we'll see.The coach just said he was wrong - it is not spearated - Eli is sore and is day to day. Wide-Lo is the backup but Coughoin said he was not ruling Eli out this week. You have missed nothing - why Mortenson did not initially report this as a "rumor" from a source close to the Giants is beyond me.Unless I've missed something, it's not like Mort saw the actual MRI results and made a diagnosis - some inside source told him one month, and that's what he's sticking to.Yup.I was just commenting that we need not take any source - includiong one as highly respected as Mortenson - as gospel when theyare merely communicating rumors. As an aside, before my comment gets mixed with the one above it, Mortenson is not an idiot - his reporting on injuries before games on Sunday is awesome. Kentucky Resident and UK fan here (although it's a stretch to say we have a football program):My favorites for J-Lo were always Pillsbury Throwboy and Quarter(got)back. He actually had a good career at UK, and while we've never been a football powerhouse since Bear Bryant left, we do play in the SEC, so the Cats face some good defenses year in and year out. Lorenzen's size not only makes him hard to bring down, but he has a good arm. He should have jocked up and lowered his shoulder for the first down last night though, instead of trying to slide. If he starts a week or two in place of Manning, I'd like to see him do well and raise his stock a little.NormSEC fan here. Here are some of the better Lorenzen nicknames:The Pilsbury ThrowboyGodzilla (via Larry Munson)The Round Mound of TouchdownLenDale White (jk)
He did. The very first time he reported it he said that the Giants were denying it but that his source was trustworthy. Yes he did. It was Burress' last TD. Didn't look like a flounder either.Didnt Manning come back in after he got hurt to throw his 4th TD?
Meh, coaches, owners, staff, media people...they all spin things to their agenda. Because Eli came back into the game, I'm guessing it's minor though Scobee kicked a field goal yesterday and is out 6-8 weeks. Mort may have taken info from a shaky source to have a story. The Giants may be spinning things so that the fan base doesn't panic (given the other injuries, too). Hard to say for sure until we get further info. The coach just said he was wrong - it is not spearated - Eli is sore and is day to day. Wide-Lo is the backup but Coughoin said he was not ruling Eli out this week. He specifically refuted the ESPN repot and said he had no idea where that came from. I hadn't even thought of that. Considering he coaches in the same stadium as tigh-lipped Mangini and not far from Belicheck, their "honesty" may be wearing off on coughlin.Coughlin just lost to a division foe, why would he show his hand. Knowing if Eli is out gives the other team a chance to prepare vs noting knowing. Coaches do this all the time. Only time will tell the truth here.
I say add this one to the list......100%This is borderline sigworthy. I need to think on this one. Good work!Lorenzen was pretty mobile at Kentucky as well. He's like a fat, white Vince Young.
Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning have both explicitly denied there's any tear. I'm just not understanding why Mort and ESPN don't back off this story and acknowledge that they appear wrong. Manning was asked about 20 different ways by Michael Kay at around 6 pm EST tonight about his shoulder, and he couldn't have been more explicit.*** He went back in the game instantly b/c of the Romo INT*** Manning said his shoulder hurt but the Romo INT was so fast, it "couldn't have come at a worse time"*** The decision not to go back in on the next drive was Eli's because he "didn't want to risk further injury"*** He admitted that once he came out after the drive, his arm started tightening up and hurt worse*** As of today, he was "sore" but had "no acute pain", "wasn't in a sling", "wasn't immobilized", and could lift things without discomfort*** He (and Coughlin) weren't ruling out playing this Sunday, but they will no more on Wednesday when he sees how 48 hours of treatment and rest feelDuring Coughlin's press conference, he also reiterated that he's not a doctor and was merely relaying what Eli and the team doctors told him. He wouldn't rule out Eli missing time because it all comes down to how painful the injury is for Eli in a few days time.
Don't disagree, but this will be the song they'll be singing for the next few weeks.Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning have both explicitly denied there's any tear. Eli Manning has separated shoulder, expected to miss playing time
NFL.com Wire Reports
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has a separated shoulder and will miss at least the next two games.
New York Giants
Schefter reports that Manning could return as early as Sept. 30, when the Giants host the Eagles.
Opposing defenses aren't going to game plan for Jared Lorenzen. They will game plan for the Giants with the assumption that Eli Manning is under center. If Lorenzen ends up starting, it's that much easier for the other team's defense to handle things.Mort isn't stupid. He knows that he's going out on a limb to contradict direct statements from the team. He must be very confident in this source to not back down when the Giants are trying to quash this rumor. It's interesting, for sure.Maybe they're trying too hard? Wouldn't they want an opponent to gameplan for J-Load, only to have Manning step in this weekend?
So the NFL & ESPN report separated shoulder & missed time, while the Giants website & Coughlin report day to day. This is insane. All I know is that if Coughlin is misrepresenting the injury today, the Giants should be fined. Aren't there rules in place that prohibit doing this?Apologize if this has been posted before. This is on NFL.com now...and is a report from Adam Schefter

Well they did deny accusations that Lorenzen was fat, referring to him instead as "pleasantly plump" and "big boned", so you never know. So, if the Giants are saying Eli is ok and day to day, and he really does have a separated shoulder and will be out a month, does that mean Jacobs, who is out three to five weeks, will really be out longer?

Something definitely amiss with the Giants' injuries. Same deal with Osi Umenyiora - some reports have him day to day (Giants website) while others (something I read quoting his agent) has him out for 4-8 weeks.ceo3west said:So the NFL & ESPN report separated shoulder & missed time, while the Giants website & Coughlin report day to day. Can a coach really deem a player who is out for over a month as day to day? Gotta figure the NFL would step in if that was the case. Eli sounded upbeat - if he was out longer I think he would be a little more down. I predict he misses one game for what its worth
They can say whatever they want about his injury status. As long as they report the truth on the injury report then there's nothing the NFL can do.
