Any word on E Manning? (1 Viewer)

I have pity for Giants, Chiefs, Falcons, and Browns fans.

Could the season have started any worse for the Giants, though? Ugh.

I am not sure about Joe, but as a blogger, I am more inclined to trust team beat writers than even ESPN...Mort has been wrong on this kind of thing before. If Ralph Vacciano hears it is a bruise an he is day-to-day, then I am inclined to believe him over ESPN, ROtoworld and PFT.

The Giants are still going to be more interesting to watch than the Chiefs though. Even the Browns will eventually switch over to Quinn which will generate some interest.

Thats too bad for Eli and the Giants. He looked in complete control yesterday. His throws were sharp and accurate - and this in the face of some pretty serious pressure. The Giants WR's also dropped at least 4-5 perfectly-thrown balls (even the INT wasnt completely his fault as the receiver slipped).

Eli's taken a lot of criticism over the last year and I was happy that he was quieting the naysayers with his performance last night. Lets hope he comes back soon - before the Giants season goes comletely down the drain and the NY media begins to whine and fingerpoint.

I can't wait to see more of Lorenzen in the lineup. That just looks funny! :lmao:
:potkettle: Watching him play for KY was amusing. Dude has a little bit of what I like to call a "weight problem."
I can't help but think of Chris Farley when I watch him play. He looks like Farley in a football uniform.
He aint nicknamed the Hefty Lefty for nothing. :lmao:
I actually like the Pillsbury Throwboy better. Gonna hear them all this week and maybe beyond.

The Round Mound of Tossing It Around?

SEC fan here. Here are some of the better Lorenzen nicknames:

The Pilsbury Throwboy

Godzilla (via Larry Munson)

The Round Mound of Touchdown

LenDale White (jk)

At least they won't point the finger at Eli! Don't know what his QB rating was for last night but putting up 35 points surely covers his side of the ball.

This nickname thing could be deserving of its own thread. :potkettle:

ETA: I hope Eli is ok though, he looked great last night, FWIW.

If they start 0-5, is Couglin gone, given the circumstances?
Yes, there would be no reason to keep him. The season would be over and the perfect time to start clearing house and thinking of the future. It's probably already happening in the back of their minds of indeed Eli Manning is out for awhile.
I'm not sure about this b/c there's no one on the staff that could step in and credibly replace him. Kevin Gilbride certainly wouldn't fit that bill and Steve Spagnuolo is way too green (first year as a DC) to handle the job.

Lets recap.....

We have PFT

http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

We're hearing an unconfirmed rumor -- and this is incredibly unconfirmed for now -- that quarterback Eli Manning might be done for the year with a shoulder injury that he suffered during a failed two-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's loss to the Cowboys.
We have Rotoworld
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Eli Manning will miss a month with a separated shoulder.

Bizarre. New York Daily News and Newsday both just reported Manning's injury wasn't nearly that serious. We'll trust Mortensen here though. Manning owners should wait for news to continue to come out before deciding what to do. It's rough news for Plaxico Burress, Derrick Ward, and Jeremy Shockey, as the offense is likely to slow down.

The MRI results on Eli Manning are in and the news was about as good as the Giants could have hoped for. He suffered only a sprained right shoulder, according to a league source. No structural damage was detected.

Manning's status for the Giants' game against the Green Bay Packers is uncertain, but the hope is that if he does miss any time it will only be a week or two at most.

The length of his absence may all depend Manning's tolerance for pain and he how he progresses as the week goes along. He will likely be very limited in practice this week, and his status for the Packers game is not likely to be known until right before kickoff.

A person familiar with Eli's shoulder injury said the QB appears to be OK, with just a bruise. He should be ready to play against the Packers, but it's doubtful he'll do much throwing this week.
Just wanted to put all the reports out there so we know who is saying what...

Lorenzen had an absolute rocket in college, and as immobile as he is he always seemed to find a receiver when about to go down, avoiding the sack. He'll have no trouble getting the ball deep. Getting it deep AND in his receivers hands, that might be a different story.

Until I see team confirmation, I'm going with the trustworthy source: the beat writer. Plus I just hate Mort.

Damn. I thought for a minute Burress was in a for a career year with the rb situation and NY's terrible secondary. The big boy can't throw.

....and how about the fact that he looked fine (as in no pain)standing on the sidelines watching the end of the game.

Eli came in a threw a td pass to Burress with the hurt shoulder. I don't understand how he can throw a 25 yard pass on the money, but now is out for the year.

guys, Mort is an idiot and the beat writer says he's fine. Until you hear different from either the team or the beat writer, pay no mind.

I am trusting the news sources, and not Mortenson KFFL or Rotoworld. All three sources are often wrong when reporting rumors.
