Any word on Tenn running game (1 Viewer)

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about the rb situation down in Tenn. I did a quick search and haven't seen much of anything recently shedding any light on the situation. Is Brown still the starter? How's Henry looked? That kind of stuff.

Thanks.

Brown is still the starter, Henry is still the backup, and LenDale has done nothing of note yet.
Is Lendale expected to be the goal line back? I am thinking that Brown is flying under the radar and could be a nice value pick since I think a lot of people assume that White will take over.

Is Brown going to remain the starter for the year (barring injury)? Will Lendale be the GL back or more of a roll? Is Henry just the backup or is he going to have more of a roll?

I've been pimping Brown for months. Healthy, there is no better back on the roster. Henry and White are battling for #2, but it doesn't look like White is putting up much of a fight.

It is really too early to tell. Lendale just had his first game in which he ran with the 2nd/3rd units. Will get a better picture after the game this Saturday night. In my mind Brown has looked the best, Lendale looked good last Saturday night and Henry is a backup. If Brown wasnt going to be the starter he would have been traded to the Jets a week or so ago. Fisher wants to get back to the Eddie George pound the rock style this year but all 3 backs will be used to do what Eddie did by himself. If I had to predict right now I would say Brown gets 65-70%, Lendale 20-25% and Henry 10%. The Titans will work Lendale in throughout the season as he will probably be the workhorse next year as Browns contract is up after this year. As for a "goalline back", I doubt one will feature prominently in that role.

At some point in the season...depending on how fast Tenn is out of the playoff picture they will hand White the feature role so he can get ready for next year. IMO next year Brown and Henry will not be on the team. White will start by week 8.

I agree with you on Brown but Henry has 2 more years (after this year) on his contract. Unless he is traded. He would make an adequate backup to White though over the next few years. As for Lendale taking over. Why would the Titans want him to take the hits in meaningless playing time? As I said before I think Brown will get the majority of carries as long as he is healthy with Lendale getting 20-25%. If they wanted Lendale to take the job midseason they would have traded Brown and rolled with Henry for half a year.

:goodposting: And like Z-Dog said, a healthy Chris Brown is the most talented back on the Titans.

The only way White is going to get better is by playing. He's a running back and he is going to take hits. I feel like they will want him to see game action to have him better prepaired to carry a full load next season.

As a Chris Brown owner, I really hope that's not true...
Well, that comes with drafting Brown. He has never been a carry the load type back. He tries, bless him, but it just isnt in him. He gets hurt too easily and he doesnt seem to be the most well conditioned back in the league. For instance, I know it is the preseason but still, he has pulled himself out of the first two games looking very fatigued. Both times were at the end of the 1st quarter. After relying on Brown one year and being sorely disappointed they picked up Henry last year and then drafted Lendale this year. The writing is on the wall for Brown.

It's not... Henry is (or was) the most talented back there, IMO. I just hope he hasn't lost his heart. He was great to watch in Buffalo. Also, he was one of the best GL backs in the league, back then, too. So, we'll see how it all plays out...

I agree, he just can't cut it. Showing up in the 2nd half would be nice once in a while...If White can't beat out Brown, that means he's already a bust, IMHO.

Those days are LONG gone. He had an amazing 2002 and an excellent 2003, but since then, he has a grand total of 660 rushing yards and 0 TDs. And then Tenn. drafted the similar White. I don't buy that Henry will be a factor at all.

How would Vince Young fit into this scenario?

That is, if the Titans give up on the season and begin to play Vince would that make it more or less likely we'd see the rookie White or the veterans Brown and Henry?

I liked Herny a lot, but it's been two years, injuries, and a drug suspension since his last good year, and he only had two good years out of six in the league. Time to cut bait on this guy, imo.

There are a lot of reasons why he has only 660 yards over that time. If you look deeper than the stats, you'd see that. I'm not saying he's still got it, but we won't know until he gets another shot at being "the" guy, which may never happen, but who knows. Sine we're throwing out stats, he did lead the AFC in 4th quarter YPC last year. It's not much, but that suggests he still has something. If he were given the chance to wear down the D in the first 3 quarters that YPC would probably he even higher.

I looked them up in the OMEGA drafts from last Sunday:

Brown (drafted) 60-92

White 99-138

Henry 156-209

Those are wiiddee berths. I smell value.

LenDale White isn't any less an injury risk than Brown. He was always hurt at SC, and now he's out of shape on top of that. Combine that with him spitting on teammates and starting fights and he's a guy I'll stay away from.

I'd be more than a little surprised if he starts at some point this season other than because of injuries to other backs.

Isn't Henry one bad choice away from a year long drug suspension or something - IIRC? That would keep them from depending on them too much....

Regardless - Both he and White will get more play with the first team over the next two games, so we'll get a much better look at where they are and how they would do if (dare I say, sadly, when?) Brown goes down.

Scenario One (most likely):Brown starts all year, with Henry and LenDale splitting some backup carries. (Remember that some of those would be short yardage, goalline carries, though as that is Brown's weakness.Scenario Two:Brown starts, Henry is traded, LenDale is the backup.Scenario Three:Brown starts until injured, Henry was traded, LenDale becomes a stud.Scenario Four:Brown starts until injured, then Henry and LenDale split the carries.I am really starting to think that Henry could be traded for DT or CB help.

...And this as well ?

Well, I got the out of shape from Titans team websites. And, I got the "always injured" from watching SC for the last 3 years in Los Angeles. He didn't miss that many games, but White was always dinged up.

Scenario 5Brown is traded. Henry starts 1st half, 75/25 aplit with White. White gets his chance second half.

Yes, but less likely than the other 4.

He reported at 227 lbs, more than 25 lbs lighter than the combine and /or title game. He was way under what the Titans requested he report at.

I read a post recently that said that Chris Brown has been sucking wind on the sidelines so bad that more than 1 poster suspected some kind of health issue i.e asthma. Is there any substanc eto this

Lendale has a long way to go to be a productive pro in the NFL.

First of all he is not in NFL feature back shape. So forget him carrying the load anytime soon. Chris Brown is the feature back. Henry is the backup. Lendale White is a green rookie who has to earn his way to some playing time. And earn the respect and trust of his teammates and the coaching staff.

:goodposting: Not saying LenDale won't be a future star, but any high hopes this year looks pretty shaky. With all the "Barlow almost went to the Broncos" rumors out there today, how long till the "Chris Brown/Travis Henry to the Broncos" rumors start? :lmao:

I'm tuned in pretty close to the happenings here and I've never heard anything remotely like that. Most of the reporters have actually been saying how good he's looked in practice, and has put on 10 lbs of muscle.

Riiiiiiiiight...... about..... .NOW!I know White was dinged up a bunch in college - but aren't MOST players dinged up during the season?I think Brown starts for most of the season until he gets hurt. Then it will be whomever has had the most success in spot duty during games and in practice. I'd like the see Henry suceed, but he doesn't seem to have risen to the challenge since arriving in TENN.I can't recall if he was hurt last season or what though.... my memory is foggy. He has the ability but does he have the drive?

Chris Brown could have huge value here. Everyone seems to expect something from White/Henry but it doesn't look like they'll contribute much this year.

Special assignment: Second-round draft pick LenDale White has been auditioning on special teams, working on the punt unit and as a fullback on kickoff returns.

"When you're not starting, you've got to play special teams," White said. "That's how it is. In college you're able to have 80 people on a team so you have a lot of scout team players and guys who can do that stuff. In the NFL, it's a 53-man roster so it's real skinny. Everybody has to be playing a part in it."

White, the Pac-10's all-time leader in touchdowns, said he never played any special teams in his three years at USC.

Currently he is third on the depth chart at running back behind veterans Chris Brown and Travis Henry.

Should have been here in April-June, when all we did was talk about which back was going to get traded to Denver. Use the search feature, I'm pretty sure there was a Chris Brown to Denver thread.

Titans to showcase RB Henry?

Written by: JIM WYATT ¦ 8/24/2006

Source: www.tennessean.com

Titans Coach Jeff Fisher is changing the order in which he'll use his running backs this weekend.

Instead of going with Chris Brown early, fans will see a lot of Travis Henry and White, with Brown mixed in.

One can't help but wonder: are the Titans showcasing Henry?

Chances are, Brown isn't going anywhere, despite attempts by his agent to get him traded.

The coaching staff is high on White, and his availability on special teams gives him a good chance of being active on Sundays.

Already, Fisher has said the Titans might not be able to dress three running backs on Sundays.

If Henry looks good, the Titans might get some phone calls from teams needing a back.

Isn't Henry 1 drug test away from a year suspension?Don't get me wrong I own him, but wouldn't he be a hard sell?

For White: Health, work ethic, talent, experience...take your pick.Henry simply hasn't shown anything.

That leaves Brown by default.

you must have seen him score a lot of TDs...he was dinged up enough to break some team & conference scoring records... leaving a year early... and splitting time with bush... what bad things would he have done to defenses if he had been healthy?

I did. He was terrific and I actually thought he was built to be a better NFL back than Reggie Bush after their So. years at SC. What does that have to do with the fact that LenDale had nagging injuries (hammy, shoulder, turf toe, etc) while at SC?I wasn't aware that you had to actually miss a game in order to be injured or dinged up. In fact, I'm quite sure you don't, which is why there is an injury report put out every week in the NFL. The players may play on Saturday, but it doesn't mean they aren't dinged up.Is the staff here always this sarcastic and borderline confrontational?

we all have different senses of humor, mine tends to be on the dry side...

i was just trying to find out why minor injuries are a concern of yours since white was proven to be so productive and durable over three years? this isn't a sarcastic question... just interested in your thought process.

realize that if he had missed a lot of games &/or not been so productive, i would completely understand your making this an issue, but given the circumstances of white's record breaking career, you have to be able to see how your stance might be perplexing to some.

* it is possible to agree to disagree on the significance of white's minor injury history at SC, without being a "confrontation".

if dan marino, barry sanders or jerry rice had a history of nagging injuries in the NFL, but always played on sunday in putting up their record breaking numbers, i'm not sure if i would see the point in being down on them for nagging injuries? their production would be the bottom line. if ANYTHING else was made the focus, would it be that unexpected if surprise was elicited?

** an important distinction to make if you want to compare white & brown as "injury risks" is that white didn't miss games... brown missed five in 03 & 04. until white starts missing as many games as brown, imo it would be fair to separate them in terms of actual risk to miss games, as opposed to being dinged.

*** your response seemed to have missed my point... he had minor, nagging injuries at SC... got it. i wasn't disputing that. just curious why it matters so much. and one of the questions above wasn't sarcastic, but a legit question. as it was, despite injuries, he didn't miss games & broke school & conference scoring records (again, despite leaving year early & splitting carries with bush that whole time) . yet your overall impression was of his "injury risk". what else would he have needed to do at SC, how many more TDs would he have needed to shatter the old records by, where there would be a concession that maybe the minor, nagging injuries didn't seem to overly impact his on field performance.

Just got a bad feeling about him this year, that's all. I think it'll take at least a year for him to get used to the pro game.
