Any word on Tenn running game (1 Viewer)

REMEMBER THIS TITAN Considering a running back from Tennessee? Travis Henry should be your first choice. A team source says he's running like a new man in training camp and has outperformed Chris Brown and second-round pick LenDale White. The key for Henry is that he's much lighter than he was a year ago, having dropped 15 pounds after playing at 230 last season. Henry carried the extra bulk because he thought he needed it to avoid the bumps and bruises that have plagued him during his career. Instead, it only made him an easier target for defenders. I'm told the Titans will be going back to the conservative offense that was built around Eddie George in the late 1990s and will be pounding the football again this season. With his new physique, Henry should be a valuable option as a third back. If you get him as your fourth running back, he'd be a steal.

Who wrote that? Henry hasnt done anything so far in camp to distinguish himself. Hes only the #2 guy due to White's complete ineptitude.

we all have different senses of humor, mine tends to be on the dry side...i was just trying to find out why minor injuries are a concern of yours since white was proven to be so productive and durable over three years? this isn't a sarcastic question... just interested in your thought process.realize that if he had missed a lot of games &/or not been so productive, i would completely understand your making this an issue, but given the circumstances of white's record breaking career, you have to be able to see how your stance might be perplexing to some.* it is possible to agree to disagree on the significance of white's minor injury history at SC, without being a "confrontation".if dan marino, barry sanders or jerry rice had a history of nagging injuries in the NFL, but always played on sunday in putting up their record breaking numbers, i'm not sure if i would see the point in being down on them for nagging injuries? their production would be the bottom line. if ANYTHING else was made the focus, would it be that unexpected if surprise was elicited?** an important distinction to make if you want to compare white & brown as "injury risks" is that white didn't miss games... brown missed five in 03 & 04. until white starts missing as many games as brown, imo it would be fair to separate them in terms of actual risk to miss games, as opposed to being dinged.*** your response seemed to have missed my point... he had minor, nagging injuries at SC... got it. i wasn't disputing that. just curious why it matters so much. and one of the questions above wasn't sarcastic, but a legit question. as it was, despite injuries, he didn't miss games & broke school & conference scoring records (again, despite leaving year early & splitting carries with bush that whole time) . yet your overall impression was of his "injury risk". what else would he have needed to do at SC, how many more TDs would he have needed to shatter the old records by, where there would be a concession that maybe the minor, nagging injuries didn't seem to overly impact his on field performance.
Cool, thanks for the response! I, too, have a "dry" sense of humor, but I just missed it in your previous post. I apologize for the hostility in my response. As to the substance of the post, LenDale needed to do nothing more to prove to me that he has the talent to be an outstanding RB in the NFL. I disagree with Dowling above where he implied that LenDale didn't have a questionable work ethic, but that's for another day or post.My reason for bringing up LenDale's injuries is just to inform people of them. Many people on various boards have brought up Stephen Jackson's injuries, as well, but he only missed one game last season. I think it's valid to bring up injuries when a guy is always on the injury report, even if he plays. Don't many get incredibly frustrated by the Patriots' Q's, P's, and U's during the season, and then see them in the game on Sundays? He missed numerous practices, and was definitely "questionable" for plenty of games. You're correct, though, that he played in them. Keep in mind that he sustained these injuries while in a RBBC system in college. As for the scoring record...yes, that's impressive. However, I do look at it with just a hint of skepticism. I watched most, if not all, of USC's (and UCLA's) games last season and for the past 10 years or so. To say that USC had more talent at every single position than every team they have played (with the possible exception of Texas) over the last few seasons, would be an understatement. LenDale scored more TD's than any other back in Pac-10 history (which necessarily means in USC history, as well), and there is no denying that this is an incredible feat. My (slight) skepticism as to just how incredible that is comes from the fact that USC scored on most of their possessions. Their punter, Tom Malone, wasn't up for quite a few records, which he would have set, because he didn't have enough punts to qualify. Point being that although LenDale was a great back at SC (and he was definitely great), I don't know if I'd point to the scoring record as a way to prove that. SC's OL may have been one of the best OL's in college football history the past two seasons. The SC line opened up holes that my mother could have scored going through. Someone was going to get those TD's (Bush or White). Obviously, there's no denying that he got them, and he deserves credit for that. I'm just not sure that all TD's are created equal, particularly when translating what a guy did playing for three of the most talented teams in college football history to the NFL where the talent is spread out among all the teams. Pete Carroll said it best when comparing USC to the NFL, "I'm going to have the chance to recruit eight or nine first-round draft picks [per year]. In the NFL you can get one a year. So we're really excited about the place we are, I'm happy to be here."Anyway, this post was very long, and I apologize for that. And, again, I apologize for the hostility of my previous post. I just plain missed the humor.

I think the most likely scenario is:

Brown starts and has his usual year, meaning he gets hurt and misses half a game, at least in the first month. Lendale gets his playing time, takes over the position and never looks back. Chris thrives as change of pace back and Travis is lucky to finish the season with 50 touches.

It's like you're reading my mind.

With the exception of LenDale taking over and not looking back, Id agree.Brown and White will be the two guys with relevant touches. Henry will be lucky to be active most weeks, assuming hes on the roster come week 1, which Id give there being a 60-70% chance of him being gone.

Looking like it's Henry's show, at least at the GL. White really needs to get healthy. He's missing a golden opportunity here.

Did I miss something? From the Box Scores, Henry didn't impress. Sure, 2 TDs, but you aren't going to be on the 2-yard line every game. He only had a 2.4 ypc average while Brown had a 4.0.What I take from this: Brown gets further downgraded because he won't get as many TD opportunities, and Henry is a bye-week fill-in where you hope he scores a TD. The Jets had a soft run defense last year (I don't know about the 2006 Defense) so I would expect RBs to average better than 2.4 before I call them "the show".

any thoughts after last nite's game on how this will shake out?
Based on how they ran it was obvious to me Brown is a better back. He was taken out at the goal line so that hurts his value. But he clearly is a better RB at this stage. I pretty much watched the whole game. Brown is quicker and more fluid and his hands are great. Henry had his 2 years and it appears to me he is not a top talent like we all thought when he played with the Bills.

What do you guys have against LenDale?
He went to USC.On a more serious note (not that I don't hate USC...I do), I was chastised for stating the fact that LenDale was frequently "Questionable" and had nagging injuries throughout his career at USC. I got responses like, "where'd you get that from?", "yeah...he played 13 games last year, what are you talking about?", etc. Watching him and reading notes sections from the L.A. Times and Daily News over the last 3 years would have told you that LenDale missed lots of practice time and his status on Saturdays was often questionable or uncertain.Well, LenDale was questionable this week, which was just as was predicted he would be quite often throughout the year. And, he has now sat out his first and only NFL regular season game.I'd say he's off to a great start in validating the "injury risk" I labeled him with, and was questioned about.
