Anybody still play the tecmo bowl on NES? (1 Viewer)

At our college house we would play the whole season of Tecmo Super Bowl we would rotate among four guys playing the games. When he parties are guest would also play games, only guys in the house would, play the postseason games. We would draw teams out a hat and then play with them those teams for the postseason.

In one SuperBowl I lost by a TD to the Chiefs. Rice dropped 3 balls in the first half and I had to make a huge comeback to make it close.

One guy in the house always placed TE Harper Le Bel in at RB for the Eagles and all he did was throw the ball.

Certainly was a great game, we dedicated an older counsel TV just to our Nintendo. The regular TV sat on top of it so we could watch what ever we wanted while we also played games.

This thread has inspired me to buy it off Ebay.

And yea the Oilers were insane...nobody that fast or anything that great, but it seemed as if you could just throw it deep 4 times in a row and you were practically guarnteed to catch at least one even against good coverage.
John Taylor for SF was the best rec in the game at this. You could throw deep to him on every play and 99% of the time he would catch it even if double/triple covered.

Not nearly enough love for Christian Okoye here. Watching defenders bounce off him was one of the funniest ways to beat someone.

got it a few days ago. Sucks that NES can't hook up to modern day TVs becuase theres no coaxial(sp?) hookup on them, so I have to use an old small TV. Anyone know how to fix this?

Use the audio and video cable on the side of the NES?

Tecmo Shirts

Giants were the best team IMHO. LT was nearly impossible to stop when you run him back to return a punt. Plus you could line him up on the center and 9 out of 10 times he'd grab the snap.

Tecmo Bowls was good, but Tecmo Super Bowl is 100 X better. The only problem with both of those games was that they were too easy. A few things that I think modern day football games could benefit from by stealing from Tecmo:The whole Excellent/Good/Average/Bad system. I know Madden has the whole changing stats thing, but that just raises or lowers depending how well you produce. The Good/Bad thing sorta simulated nagging or bad injuries. The cut scenes. There was this one cut scene where when you threw a long pass, and a defender was near, they cut away to a shot where they showed your WR jumping up, then the defender jumping up, then a shot with fingers and the ball. Sometimes the ball would get batted down, or they would cut to a shot where one of the two came down with it. Made it more dramatic. Oddly enough, I prefer Tecmo Super Bowls way of sorting stats over anything Madden or 2k as done in the past 17/18 years. Very simply, effective, and easy to sort. The announcements when a particular team won it's division or conference, as well as a half time show and different Super Bowl half time show. They may have been pretty cheesy back then, but at least they gave you something. You win the Superbowl in games now and that's it. There is no "reward" for winning. The ending is no different than a preseason game.
:goodposting: Tecmo Super Bowl was the shiz. And yes its stat tracking and simple cut scenes were more statisfying than any madden or 2k game I've played in the last decade.

Unless he has the NES101. That only has coaxial.

Tecmo BO (Jackson). The stories and videos of Bo are legendary.

Loved the game. I can't begin to grasp how much time I put into that game. My team was Chicago. I Used to do silly things like:

-Play an entire season without a team scoring on you (no resets..team scores, you start over).

-Have Samurai Mike lead the league with sacks and Interceptions (at least 50 of each).

-Score at least 70 every game (that one's easy, I know).

-Win a game by 70 by running the same play every play of the game (RUN 2 or PASS 3 were my favs).

-Have Walter have at least 2000 yards rushing, all WRs have at least 1500 receiving, and the QB have 1000 rushing.

Fun fun times and always has its place (I'd probably play that game today longer than I would any Madden). But I agree with those who love Super Tecmo also, just for the things you can do with the stats.
