I am planning to go to the NFL draft this weekend. Has anyone here been? I know the tickets are free, but how easy is it to get tickets? and what time should i get on line? Thanks.

I'm not sure how it works this year, but 2 years ago (at MSG) you had to line up the night before at about 9pm to assure yourself a place in line the next morning (which all but guaranteed entry). The staff at MSG distributed wrist bands shortly after midnight and told us to come back at 8am to stand in line again for ticket distrubtion (which was done at 11am). It was a lengthy process, but a worth-while one (to do once). I doubt I would stand that long in line again though.

That is the way to go. That's how I'll get my tickets this year. Let me know if you're going to be in line and we can meet up and shoot the breeze, kill time while waiting. The nice thing is that they have a "diehard" program where people who stay til the end of the draft get signed up on a list to have a ticket mailed to them for the next draft.

How many more years do we have before the draft becomes a road show and is awarded to different cities every year? It would be great to see some vocal fans there besides guys wearing Mark Bavaro jerseys.

so basically if i dont get on line friday night.... it will be very difficult to get in?

im debating between hitting the draft or the espn zone. i usually go to the espn zone every year, but am debating about whether or not to hit the draft.

If you have a great seat at the zone, I'd do that. The actual NFL draft is a lot of work to get in. I was also at the same one two years ago at MSG (as well as the Vince Tobin/Mel Kiper one at the Marriott Marquis a while back). There was almost a riot at that 2004 drft outside. If you don't get a wristband, skip the whole deal. One warning: I believe that this is Radio City's first go-round with the draft. Might not be smooth.

My advice would be to skip it, get a comfortable seat, and watch it on TV. If you are going with a crew, it'll be cool, but if you are solo, or with one guy, it'll be boring as hell. Think about it: 7 hours, sitting in a theater, listening to the ESPN brodacast on the little radio they hand out, surrounded by draftniks.

I think your right. I think im gonna do the usual and hit the espn zone. They always get players(joe namath is usually there wasted!) in there and i can eat and drink :-)

Ha. I gotta tell this story.

A buddy who works for the NFL (no inside info I'm afraid) gave me two VIP tickets to the 2004 draft, which is really the only way I woulda gone. So, I'm driving over to MSG from Brooklyn, and listening to ESPN Radio. They are interveiwing some fan who had tried to organize some kind of bum rush on the doors at MSG. Not sure what they were planning on doing once they got inside, but it got a little hairy outside, around 10:30 or so. I was thinking in my head I was gonna show up just in time to get Maced.

So since no one I know is a draft geek, I had the spare ticket. So I'm wandering around outside, looking for any Raider fan to give it to. I spot two Latino kids in Raider gear, and offer the kid in a Sapp jersey the ticket. He takes it, blows off his buddy, who goes back to the hotel, and we head inside.

we get talking, and he mentions he and his buddy flew in just for the draft. They really underestimated the demand, and showed up at like 8:30. not the brightest bulbs in the tree.

We get talking some more, and he mentions he got interveiwed that morning, after he tried to storm the gates. I couldn't believe it! The same dude I heard on ESPN, half an hour before, and I gave him my spare ticket. I thought we were gonna get jumped by security. Kid was a riot, and he actually left after the first round.

Looking forward to that. A draft in Canada would rock!

I've been 3 times: 2002-04. Only in `02 was I able to get in - it was in `03 that they started implementing the wrist-band crap! In `04 I went the ESPN-Zone & had a BLAST! You can eat & drink... no alcohol @ MSG! The line starts early at the Zone also, but not quite as early.BTW - Weather report calling for low 60s on Saturday.

I will be flying into NYC on Friday and am gonna try to get into the draft. I'm not exactly sure what time to line up outside Radio City but there is no way i'm going down Friday night. I am planning on going down and scoping it out at like 3:30 or 4:00 am. If the line is outrageous I'll go to plan B.

Although info is scarce about the draft tickets/wristbands, everything I've read says they will be handed out around 9 am. The people I have talked to said that 2004 was a snafu when they handed out the wristbands at midnight the night before.

Fan Tickets

NFL expecting 3000 fans.

Where to line up.

If anyone has any concrete info to add, I would really appreciate it.

TIA

You know how smashed everyone must get with all the standing around waiting for something to happen?

Sheesh...
