Anyone considering trading down from #1 to #3? (1 Viewer)

I have the #1 pick, and I dont really care which of the big 3 RBs I get....so, Im thinking about offering to trade down to pick 3, at least for a few rounds, so I can have the decision made for me, and so I can get a little bit better of a pick in a couple of other early rounds.

The guy picking at #3 had LJ last year and am pretty sure he would take him at #1, and I know the guy at #2 wants Alexander, which means that I would most likely get LT at #3 if I make the move, which is of course fine with me.

I havent put together a trade proposal yet, as Im still trying to consider what to offer (which rounds to trade, how many rounds, etc)

Im not asking for advice, Im just wondering if anyone else has considered doing the same, or has already done the same, and if so, how did you approach it?? Was the guy at pick #3 even interested, or was he content with where he was drafting?? If you had #3, would you consider moving up to pick #1, or would you sit tight on the 3 spot and go with it?

I know its most likely only a 2 pick swing, but that can be huge in the early rounds where dropoffs come quick. After rounds 4-5, it really doesnt matter much, but Im after any edge I can get, no matter how slight.

you have to find a guy like me, who, if picking at 3, would probably give up more than he should to move up and make sure he got LJ. :D

This would be a great year to trade down from the #1 pick to #3. All 3 of those guys have about the same risk (minimal) with about the same upside (2000 yards and 20+ TDs). I'd try to get a 4th or 5th round pick in exchange for moving down.

I already traded the #1 in a NEW league.

I got LT at #3.

traded my 1, 3 and 5 for his 1, 2 and 4.

not much movement, but enough to get the 2 players I wanted in the 2nd round.

as far as risk goes, I would rate LJ a higher risk because he has never been the full time starter.

also because of his upright running style, he will take more of a pounding than either LT or SA.

that said, his upside could be higher too.

BUT, all 3 are head and shoulders above any other RBs.

So your first five picks went from (assuming 12 team serpentine league)(1, 24, 25, 48, 49) to (3, 22, 24, 46, 48)

Pick 3 goes from (3, 22, 27, 46, 51) to (1, 25, 27, 49, 51)

Pick 3 still gets 3 of the top 27 players (including #1), and 5 of the top 51 players (moving down a couple of spots in 4). Not a bad deal for either, really.

kellumsboys, I just made the same trade that you did. My 1st, 3rd, and 5th for his 1st, 2nd, and 4th. (I traded with the guy who has pick 3)

Im 99% sure Ill get LT at pick 3, but whoever I get is fine. This gives me two 2nd rounders, no 3rd rounder, two 4th rounders, and no 5th rounder.

Ill happily take it. It was scary pulling the trigger....All I have to do is hope that none of the big 3 RBs get hurt between now and draft day, otherwise I go to "Plan B", which would be Portis.

If you rate them all the same, DO IT. It really doesn't matter what you get in return. Additional draft pick(s) or a bump up in one or more rounds. It's more then you got drafting in the #1 hole and selecting the same player.

I think it would be safer to trade to 2 or to wait to trade to 3 until closest to your draft. If you were to trade down to three and one of those top 3 guys got hurt in preseason, you could end up getting the #4 RB, right after the dropoff.

I think it's a great idea if you really don't care which one of the 3 you get. It might get you into a position where you get a better WR or TE than you would otherwise get. I think in the 8 seasons I've played I've traded down 4 or 5 times and don't remember ever trading up. I've never regretted it either. Go for it.Obviously it will make it much easier if the guy at #3 really has wood for one guy. I'd approach him about who he thinks is the #1 pick and start talking him up. Then when he's convinced that his guy is the best pick ask if he'd be interested in coming up to get him.

I am in one redraft league. We get to choose our draft position based on how we finished last year. Due to a miserable year of injury and disappointing performance, I have second choice of draft position. I think the 3 spot is ideal because you are guaranteed one of the top 3 backs and you would have an earlier pick in round 2.

I've done several mock draft with re-draft guidelines and standard yahoo scoring. If I were looking for LT, SA or LJ I'd settle for the 3 spot. If the top 3 spots aren't available I've actually found the 8-hole to be an excellent position.

Take the #1 pick, stand up be loud and let everyone know who you want.

Then hope during the 2nd round that the other owners get spooked and start drafting mediocre RB and allow a top WR to drop on your lap.

Its a done deal. I gave my 1st, 3rd and 5th rounders for his 1st, 2nd, and 4th rounders. In round 6 we go back to our otiginal draft slots, so Ill have 2 at the turn from that point on. No one in our league has ever had multiple picks in any round, and now I have two 2nd rounders and two 4th rounders, and the guy I traded with has two 3rd and two 5th rounders.

Im lovin it.
