Anyone else starting Jason Campbell? (1 Viewer)

Anyhow to make a long story short - I was 9-0 last week(9-1 now). I decided to move my QB this season - Phillip Rivers - in order to set myself up for the Playoffs. I swapped Rivers for Pennington(who will be my playoff QB) and Michael Turner.

I am of the feeling that Rivers is a good QB but not as good as his #s are showing lately. As the Playoffs get closer, I expect the Chargers to keep the game on the ground more.

ANYHOW - sorry for getting off track, but currently on my roster my options are Pennington, Alex Smith and Jason Campbell.

I am going with Jason Campbell. I think people forget just how talented this guy was comng out of Auburn because he has been rotting on the bench for 3 years. He has been preparing for this day for 3 years now. This is Jason Campbell - the same Jason Campbell who was SEC Offensive Player of the Year. The Same Jason Campbell Who was chosen as a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Manning Award given to the nation's best collegiate quarterback. He also was a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award.

I think people are sleeping on Jason Campbell and are going to regret not picking him up if he is on your waiver wire right now. The Redskins have added some playmakers to that offense and have just lacked the arm to get the ball to them. I think today will be an exciting time to be a 'Skins fan.

I'm probably making a mistake, but I'm starting Campbell over Frye, Plummer and Hasselbeck (unless we hear soon that he is starting)

I'm not expecting a huge game, but a 200/2/1 day seems workable against TB.

I'm optimistic about Campbell long therm and excited to see what he does. I picked him up off of the WW in my dynasty league this week, but that's msotly for next year.

I don't have the guts to play him this week. I don't think that QB's have a good game their first time out - that's usually why coaches doen't play them until they are out of playoff consideration.

On the other hand, defenses won't have a clue how to play him, so a decent game is possible.

Moss is out today. Cooley and Betts will be big benefactors of pass game for Cambell. If I had Plummer I would play him over anybody the Deadskins roll out.

I think the Skins offense is going to struggle this week with Portis and Moss out.

Campbell has got a big arm, but has played inconsistently. When I saw him play the Jets in the preseason this year, he hit a beautiful 50-yard pass one play, then through an ugly looking INT on the next.

I'm curious to see how the offense changes with him at QB. He has the arm to hit the deep threats, but I'm not sure to what extent he will be trusted to use it.

I picked up Campbell in the three leagues where I could, but I wouldn't start him today (over Romo, McNair or Kitna) - not sure his first game out will be that good - BUT he does have a great schedule in Weeks 13-16 for FF playoffs.

I've temporarily put him in my lineup today. My options are limited though with Losman, Garrard, and Leinert.

Somebody kick me in the head if they think one of my other options is better.

How does this set you up for playoffs? I believe you weakened your team with that trade. I'm the president of the Michael Turner fan club, but there is not guarantee he will see extensive playing time down the stretch. Marty have proven that nothing he says can be trusted at this point. And Rivers has clearly been superior to Pennington this season from a fantasy standpoint.

I am going with Jason Campbell. I think people forget just how talented this guy was comng out of Auburn because he has been rotting on the bench for 3 1.5 years. He has been preparing for this day for 3 1.5 years now. This is Jason Campbell - the same Jason Campbell who was SEC Offensive Player of the Year. The Same Jason Campbell Who was chosen as a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Manning Award given to the nation's best collegiate quarterback. Fixed.I'm a 'Skins homer and I think Jason Campbell could be special, but he's nowhere near my starting lineup. I think Romo-itis has gotten to people. On my redraft squad I just picked him up off of waivers and he's my 4th QB behind Seneca Wallace, Alex Smith, and Trent Green (I drafted intending to platoon my QB's), and on my dynasty roster he's still on my practice squad, behind McNabb, Romo and Walter. I just dropped Brunell in both leagues.

The good news is that his skills (strong arm, good deep thrower) would seem to fit the offense's strengths of a power running game with play-action shots deep, but he's in his first regular season action today (forget about starts) on the road against an excellent defensive scheme under Monty Kiffin, and without his two best playmakers, Portis and Moss. Personally, I think they'll have a very conservative game plan and will try to limit him to no more than 20-25 passes, while running 35-40 times. He'll end up IMHO with less than 200 yards passing and probably 1 TD and at least 1 INT; he'll probably have around 20 yards on scrambles. If you have to start him, I pity you.

You're 9-1 and you trade the #10 fantasy QB for two guys who wouldn't even start in most fantasy leagues? Wow.In the last 6 weeks, Rivers has been the #2 QB in my league (and #5 overall player). Pennington, meanwhile, was 31st -- behind such illustrious QBs as Andrew Walter and Charlie Frye.ETA: I hope you are fishing. Otherwise........good luck, because you are going to need. it.

I just got back from watching this game at a sports bar. I have to say that I was very impressed with Campbell. First of all, he's got a lot of poise. He just looks like he belongs. I can't really describe it beyond that.

Second, I was amazed by how many times the coaches had him pass. True, a lot of that was dictated by game situation and the fact that the 'Skins were trailing for most of the second half, but the fact that they dropped him back to pass as many times as they did on 1st down demonstrates to me that they have a LOT of confidence in him.

He made good decisions with the football and only made one questionable pass that I can recall, which was a pass into traffic in the end zone at the end of the game, which was almost intercepted by Brooks. Otherwise he put the ball either right on the money, or where either his receiver could get it or nobody else would. Both TD throws (each done on roll-outs to the right side) demonstrated patience and discipline, and good reads of the defense in addition to accurate throws.

The difference in this game was the Redskins' inability to stop much of anything on defense, especially the Bucs' running game, and then their inability to run the ball well themselves. The latter also contributed to the fact that Campbell threw the ball a lot. Frankly, the Redskins should view this game as a good effort by Campbell wasted by the defense and the offense's feeble rushing attack.

now I wish I started Campbell over McNabb... Hindsight is 20-20, I guess... I am glad I picked him up, especially in lieu of McNabbs injury.
