Anyone else think Parcells was forced out? (1 Viewer)

As a diehard Cowboys fan, I just have a fishy feeling about this whole thing.

Parcells was forced out in my opinion and I think that it will come out in the next couple of days why. I think Jerry Jones had higher expectations and with good reason, but I think when push came to shove he probably forced Parcells out because of Jerry's inflamed ego. Anyone else agree with this? After all the reports that Parcells was traveling to Mobile to scout players at the Senior Bowl to the reports he was going to work everyday and now this shocker. Just doesnt add up. I just don't get it I guess. Maybe the media will shed new light into it after a few days of digging. If anyone has any inside info to add, feel free

I wouldn't put anything past Jerry Jones, but didn't Parcells try to retire after last season, only to be persuaded by Jones to stay on?

FWIW, I think Parcells was tired of the babysitting he was forced to do with TO among other things. That, his age and the constant pressure from Jerry Jones, IMO is the reason why he decided to retire.

I think Jerry Jones got depantsed by Parcells....

Who's left on his staff?

He's leaving the Cowboys high and dry if you ask me.

I'm sure the fact that the Saints went further with a former coach, with a 3-13 team from last year really irks Jerry Jones.

Ultimately it's all Jerry Jones' fault. He wanted to be the BMOC, and now he's left with the pile of feces that remains.

I must agree here. Parcells always goes out in fashion. And here, he let every assistant coach leave before announcing that he was going to retire. Zimmer was a GREAT DEF coordinator, and possibly could have made a nice "in house" promotion to HC. Oh, and that OC last year that went on this year to be coach of the year...forget his name though :o . Oh thats right, SEAN PAYTON!

Unless Jerry has Cowher's ear, I don't think there is any one guy out there right now that Jerry would want to push BP out the door for.

Agreed. I think (for once) this is as simple as it appears. Parcells is old and on his last coaching legs, and has had enough. I also agree that this leaves the Cowboys in a bind in many respects. They have a team that has some talent to be sure, but what is there for a new coach to work with is more limited than the team's overall performance might imply. On the plus side they've got a couple of good but apparently limited RB's, a young but raw QB, a good TE, a couple of potentially dominant D-linemen, and a good young LB prospect. But they've also got problems. Their talented WR's on the wrong side of 30 (one of whom is first-class pain in the ###), their o-line is at best a project, they've got a lot of age on their roster at D-line and linebacker outside of a few guys, and their secondary is known for giving up big plays. Also, because of where their talent exists on defense, they almost by necessity must continue to be a 3-4 defense, which some coaches won't like. Anyway, food for thought. It's definitely going to be an interesting team to watch this offseason.

Dont really think that Jones got depantsed by Parcells. Parcells is reportedly staying on for the next ten days to help out and maybe hired as a consultant in the near future. So it definetly sounds like a mutual business decision. Out of the coaches hired thus far (Wisenhunt, Petrino, Cam Cameron) dont really think would have fit what Jones was looking for.Sparono is left as the OC. Zimmer struggled running the 3-4 and Jones has already stated that he wants to continue to run the 3-4 so the poster who suggested Zimmer as HC doesnt seem like a good fit. If this team gets a Mike Martz and somebody who knows how to run the 3-4 this could be a dangerous team or conversely if they keep Sparono as OC and bring Wade Phillips this team could have a legimate shot at going deep in the playoffs.

Definitely wasn't forced out. If that were the case, it would have happened right after the playoff loss when Dallas would have been the premiere coaching destination.

The big name coaches appear to be available next year in Cowher and maybe Fisher so the timing is really bad. Do you turn to Martz who may be the biggest available name but isn't a really strong match for a team who's identity wants to be their defense? That said, with a good D Coord and Martz to work on the offense I could see that happening.

Jimmy Johnson is the only guy I think that might fit that description.
Didn't they end up at odds by the end of Jimmy's run as coach? He was offered full control of the Texans before they went with Kubiak and he turned that down. Unless he and Jerry are buddy buddy again to where he'd do it out of friendship, I just have a hard time seeing him going back to a position with less control than he turned down last year.

Anyone who thinks it's a good idea to hire Martz as a HC is well...... ill leave it at not intelligent or simply has a short term memory.

I do like him as an OC though.

Untrue.

Mac Engel of the Forth Worth Star Telegram reported that Parcells stepped down because he wantwd more years and money. It had little, if anything to do with TO or Jerry Jones.

Parcells didn't want to be a lame duck coach and wanted more money, but Jones balked. He didn't want to pay Parcells and give him more years, especially since he's always surrounded by retirement rumors.

:hot: This sums it up for me.

I don't think he was forced out. I think he wanted out. He was tired a lot of the time this year, he looked it, he looked discouraged a good bit of the time also. Not as bad as Steve Spurrier looked the last part of his last season, but still like a guy who sometimes wanted to just be away from coaching.

Norv Turner will be the Head Coach.

Jason Garrett will be the offensive coordinator.

Not sure who the next defensive coordinator will be but he will have to be a 3-4 guy since they are so invested in it anyway. Pepper Johnson would be a good choice in my opinion, bring some fire to that defense and keep people from pushing Norv Turner around.

Garrett will be groomed to be the next Head Coach and will take over in two years.

Interesting. The only fault I can find with that is that Pepper Johnson, who of course has ties to Parcells, may not want to go there after his old coach left. Otherwise, it would make sense.

at the fiesta bowl i was in the stands right next to the field exit.....when jimmy, his perfect hair and that slimeball switzer were leaving the field i yelled for jimmy to please come back to the cowboys....he kind of did that "haha you're funny no way in hell i'm too busy fishing" face

note i did not plead for switzer to come back

Why not? Didn't Switzer win a Superbowl?

You're correct, he didn't lose a Super Bowl.
