I think you are looking at 10 team leagues. Huge difference

i also drafted poorly by not getting any depth at RB, but that's another story.

Just finished my big money draft and went wr /wr. Like my team a lot. Feel like I have strength at every position except Rb. Adequate RBS but not much depth. Still I like it.

Overview:

Your receivers are the strongest part of this team and you look good at tight end as well. It's rare for us to endorse a team with weaknesses at quarterback and running back, but we're doing it right here! You should have a contender here. Drafted knowshon 3 spots after miller and teased the miller owner about how I got the starter. Lol.

Jordan Reed slipped to the 11th so I snagged him as gronk insurance. Took kelce in the 14th.

Overall i love my starting lineup, but i need to do some work on my bench. I went in to this one having not looked at anything fantasy football related in months so i slept on some guys that i should have been targeting. Me deciding to go WR/WR was due to the fact that i don't see the value in guys outside of the top 3 maybe 4 running backs. All of them had question marks or weren't game changers so i finally did what i said i was going to last (which i didn't do and drafted Lynch and Rice...FML) and tried to gain a significant position advantage.

I went WR/WR without meaning to but things happened that forced my hand.

I was picking 9th.

Calvin was still there! Had to grab him. And Jimmy Graham was gone.

ON the turn Dez was still there and all top RBs gone. I couldn't justify taking Gio Bernard or Doug Martin over Dez.

I'm guessing Qbs are going early as well as TEs. I was surprised at the number of TEs that went in mine before the 6th round. Some guys were even taking a 2nd TE by the 10th. We only have 14 roster spots.

I'm guessing some combination of .5PPR (much larger effect than perceived, to the point where upside down is much less viable), 10 team, superflex and just generally rather casual leagues.

It's not the way it used to be when we'd show up at the American Legion with our cheat sheets and magazines and be on our way. Online drafting on a site like ESPN gives the novice members of a league as fair a shot as anyone, and their values were pretty close to ADP this year. In the case of getting Julio at 19, I think 1/2 PPR watered down things a bit, but the online drafting phenomenon also took over. Most of my leaguemates have been playing for a while, but even they second guess themselves when they look at the player pool and see Aaron Rodgers at 9 and Doug Martin at 14. Incidentally, Julio's ADP in non-PPR is 18, so it is realistic he would be there at 19. We did have a few slight reaches before Julio (Martin, Foster, Brees, and Rodgers) but the first few rounds went as I expected.

My draft is similarly skewed (but not nearly as heavily) as TEs get 1.5PPR which does alter the first couple rounds slightly. The fact that Jimmy Graham's possible 90 receptions all of a sudden turns into 135 shoots him up to the first overall pick in my projections. I'm not quite positive if my strategy would be considered "upside down".

As is always the case, the draft didn't break anywhere near to how I anticipated.

I landed Rodgers at 1.04 but it didn't break for me to go WR/WR in 2-3 because, inexplicably, Montee Ball fell to me at 2.09 (8th RB taken) and Russel Wilson fell to me at 3.04 (13th QB drafted), since this is a QB flex league and I am incredibly high on Wilson (plus Julio and AJ were taken at 3.02 & 3.03) I jumped all over him at that spot.

Ended up with Vincent Jackson (13th WR, 5.04), Julius Thomas (TEs & WRs are combined, 23rd receiver 6.09), Victor Cruz (25th receiver 7.04), Justin Hunter (41st receiver) & Kyle Rudolph (48th receiver).

I was kind of excited to go WR/WR but I'm okay with how it broke.

I took it to the extreme in my draft, not really by design its just how it went down. We start 2 flex splots plus 2 wr and 2 rb so you can start up to 4 WR and its PPR.

Drafting 9th ended up with 4 WR in the first 4 rounds.

Just like I posted in the "What happens when you take Graham 1st round" thread- these "holes" that you see on paper post draft are meaningless because 2 weeks into the year your starting different players anyway.

People love to look at their team and have the psychological reassurrance that "look at this team, everyone is SOLID!" Then the team that has more difference making players and 2 scrubs in their starting lineup finds a "solid" player for that spot and ends up crushing the "solid in all spots" team.

Patterson in the 6th round of 12 team PPR is madness. I don't care if I wasn't carrying a single RB, I wouldn't pass up someone with blatant WR1 upside in that spot.

I am wishing i would have gone WR/WR from the 10spot. I couldnt pass up on Graham though. In hindsight, if I went WR/WR I could have nabbed Gronk in the 4th. I could have gone Dez, Julio, Allen then Gronk. Instead I went Graham, Dez, Allen, Jennings. Vereen went one pic before Jennings.

Had 3 $$$ drafts in the last few days, and in ALL THREE I went WR-WR.

Granted, I was in the 7 slot in one league, and in the consecutive 2 leagues, I was in the 8 slot.

(I seriously wanted to go this route this year, I'll explain later in this thread)

Had I drawn a #1- #2 pick, I may not have had the stomach to go Calvin Johnson, and I would have had to pick a RB.

Funny note- One league is a $200 league, and we drew draft slots in advance about a week ago.

One guy asked me point blank who I wanted at #8. (this guy was going off in the #2 slot)

I told him a week prior, "I would like to get Eddie Lacy at the 8th spot, but since I'm sure he will be gone, I will most likely get a WR since I am not wanting Jimmy Graham there".

Well, as luck would have it, someone took Manning #1 and Eddie Lacy fell to me, and I opted for Demaryius Thomas anyway. I was so happy with my previous two drafts I decided to go the same route.

A few notes-

I went with a defense earlier than expected, but there was a big "run" on defenses and there weren't any left I was looking for, and then I noticed STL sitting there. I correctly guessed I could get Ingram and another bench WR after, and the one I wanted late was James Jones.

So here was a case where going with a DEF a little earlier worked out in this scenario.

Also- a few might say I went with Eric Decker a little early, but that was to be expected. Since we start 3 WRs, the depth at WR really FLEW off the board in rounds 4 , 5 and 6.

QBs went off early too, and I didn't want to be "stuck" with Cutler, so I opted to get Ryan early.

Interestingly enough, I went Demaryius Thomas/Jordy in my two prior drafts. I almost went that way again, but I didn't want to be in that position where an injury would begin to hurt at all 3 teams. (Demaryius would still be a killer for me)

My thoughts this year, were to give up a little edge in RB numbers, if I could "make it up" at WR.

I view this as a "low variance" play, since the injuries occur so much more often at RB.

(I also think you could make up any deficit easier in our 3WR leagues, than a more traditional 2WR leagues...... I may go a different route there)

Lets say I give up theoretically 8 points a week at RB, since I may have RBs that are a notch below the top tier.

I essentially drafted in such a fashion that I believe I can make up that 8 point deficit with my WR corps, versus an "average WR Corps" across the rest of the league.

In this specific scenario, I think with the Rbs I have, I can find 2 serviceable RBs each week.... and my WRs are much stronger overall than other teams (on average).

I view Zac Stacy as a steady #2 RB, and Joique Bell essentially the same. BUT- In the event of a "not so rare" Reggie Bush injury, Joique Bell can flirt with RB1 numbers in an offense he is already going to be a big part of anyway.

I STILL have Sankey, Ridley, Sproles, Miller and Ingram and certainly one will give me decent numbers, with the most likely candidate being Sankey at some point.

ALSO- I still have the opportunity to find a producer off the wire, just like anyone else, when a few emerge from the pack just like happens every year.

For what its worth, I am tinkering with the idea of dropping Ingram or Miller and "cuffing" Zac Stacy with Benny Cunningham. The guy has been great preseason and in the event of injury, the guy will be highly sought after.
