Anyone notice that the Draft starts at 4 PM ET (1 Viewer)

Also mentioned was that the west coast teams could be finishing up around 11pm PST and having to start the next round at 9am PST. Talk about no time to prepare! How on earth they would allow this is beyond me.
How on earth do you get to 11 PM PST? They start at 1 pm PST (4 EST).So how does 2 rounds take 10 hours? :lmao:
The reading I did say Day 1 of the draft could easily go to 1am EST
Last years first round took 3 1/2 hours with the new time limits

I'll miss the 9AM start.

In past years I'll get all keyed up off of strong coffee and watch that thing like it's in 3D.

Not possible. More like 7 pm.Meaning more like 10--10:30 on the East Coast. 2 rounds, and the time between picks has been cut down. 2 rounds never took 10 hours back when the 1st round was 15 minutes between picks.

This whole post is hysterical, JAA...

This is a horrible move by the league. Ive read some about this and they are horribly overlapping with biesball games starting off at 4pm. Do they really think they are going to increase viewership that way?
Um, in short, yes. They have a plan, and I'd say they know a thing or two about marketing. Like they care about overlapping with some baseball. :(

:lmao: Yeah, a lot of war rooms will be caught with their pants down because they haven't had months to prepare, and they all need naps.
Finishing up just after dinner EST gives the evening sports (and local shows) ample time to discuss picks so far, how their teams draft is going, etc. Starting at 4pm, who on earth is going to stay up after the draft to read, discuss, and watch?
LOL at needing more time to discuss picks when you have 3+ hours between 32 guys. Like any sports dork show won't have enough NFL draft to talk about. :lmao: Even funnier, is your concern about "who on earth is going to stay up after the draft to read, discuss and watch?". :lmao: Why does that matter, exactly? There will be weeks of that going on.
Really a dumb move on the NFLs part.
Let's face it, it's "dumb" because you don't like it. Doesn't mean it's dumb. Look, people like you, me and the rest on here that are fanatics, are not who they're looking to appease. No. They already own us. They could start the draft at midnight, and we'll still find some way to follow it. They want to pique interest in other demographics that they don't already have. Having the top picks announced Saturday, in prime-time, makes sense. As does Friday night. Anyway, if it helps broaden their audience, they win...doesn't matter what time it is. Regardless, definitely not "dumb".

Im glad I could brighten your morning. Its clear that ESPN/NFL fill a lot of air time (make a lot of money) on hype/speculation. I dont see how having the draft end as late as it does help viewship on Sat evening. I believe there are more people who are interested in wacthing the post draft coverage instead of the during draft coverage. Im not sure a lot of people actually watch the draft.

Do you think people are going to skip their beisball games to watch the draft? If the draft started at noon EST, do you think they would have more or less viewers than 4pm? Cmon my CST friend, think this one through :(

It's about [gasp] the bigger picture (not a baseball game :lmao: ), JAA. It's called marketing. Think that one through.Did you think for a minute that they might not care when the draft ends? Do you think the start might be a little more important than the end? Why do you think it might be smart, not "dumb", to have the start of the NFL draft in prime® time?

Let's see, the target demographic is probably 18-35 or so. What is a guy in that age range more likely to skip on a Saturday to watch the draft:

1) Doing yardwork

2) Going out on a Saturday night

NFL=FAIL

Baseball? Seriously? The only people that this is going to affect are those who are actually attending baseball games.

I'm surprised you have yet to express outrage over the draft being held in April, and not pushed back to the end of June, due to the NBA playoffs. I mean there are 4 NBA PLAYOFF GAMES ON SATURDAY!!!! Do you think people are going to skip their NBA playoff games to watch the draft?

I agree that the start time is late. What I have been wondering for years now is why does the 1st team get to sit on the clock for the 15 (and now 10) minutes after the draft starts? They have been on the clock all offseason. Why not just start the draft by saying "With the 1st pick of the draft, the Detroit Lions select _____." And then team 2 is on the clock. [/rant]
Agreed, but I'm guessing McDonald's is willing to pay the NFL millions of dollars for the advertising slots during that first commericial break of the draft. It sucks, but if the NFL is business above all else, unfortunately.

Definatly liked the 12 noon start better. By 4 we'll all be pretty hammered at the draft party. As for those crying about having to do the "family thing" or something, please. We have about 20 guys that get together *all day* for the NFL draft, we have a draft guessing pool, couple kegs, BBQ all day and then poker and cards all night.

The scheduling agent (i.e. the wife) knows about this day months in advance and knows not to schedule anything that day for me to do. You guys need to grow some and tell your wife what you're going to do on NFL draft day. :D ;)

:bag: Curious bonscott...do you do the below or something else?http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...=151430&hl=
Nope, here are our rules. Will be our 9th season doing this, prolly have 15-20 people show up between two locations. It's probably the funnest day of the year for all of us.
Draft Pool Rules

1. Your predictions are for First Round ONLY.

2. Select one player for each pick in the first round. That selection will go with that draft number.

3. Trades will have NO effect on how the scoring is kept (other than it may change who is selected where).

4. This is NOT an all or nothing deal. Points will be awarded for coming close. The scoring system is as follows:

32 pts - correct pick

16 pts - 1 pick off

8 pts - 2 picks off

4 pts - 3 picks off

2 pts - 4 picks off

1 pt - 5 picks off

0 pts - 6+ picks off
It's pretty awesome to be far behind and then hit a couple 32's in the the last few picks and catch all the way up.

Bout time the east coast guys had to suffer some.

Love the 8:30 MST Playoff start times and now this draft time. !!
RIGHT...cause Monday nite games ending after 1am doesnt suck...
games starting at 10 am EVERY sunday does suck.
Try 7 AM. Better off not even going to bed.
do they still delay mnf?
No. Not with all the info everywhere nowadays.I am able to DVR it however, without finding out beforehand -- just watch my step on Mondays, is all. :lmao:

This 4PM crap is ridiculous.

Just wanted to vent that real quick now that we're down to the final hour. So lame, we should be 3 hours into this draft right now.

Pulled my butt out of bed at 9:30 to grab a bite to eat and sit down to see the beginning of the draft.. Sit down on my couch and notice I had 5 hours till it started... :X

I'd bet they gain more viewers by allowing all the errands and honey-do lists to get done before draft time than the ones they lose b/c of people going out on Saturday night. That, along with letting the West coasters get the draft in the afternoon.
