A denver back with the fewest ???'s I did not know there was such a thing.Kidding aside, I think I might start Hillis over Derrick Ward or Brandon Jacobs. I might be forced to anyway I have Gore and Jacobs. Gore will probably play, but I can't see a reason for NY to play Jacobs too much.Hillis is in the lineup for now, with Reggie Bush on the bench. I also have options with Pierre Thomas and CBuck if Westy can't go.Not sure if he stays in, but he seems like the back with the fewest ???? for now.
Yeah, it is strange...but look at how Shanny used Pittman (almost?) exclusively at the stripe earlier this season and Hillis is a pass catcher, so great in the 3rd down and wide sets. It's a risk, but Hillis seems to have earned the team's trust on short yardage, and as evidenced by the 7 catch 100yard+ receiving game a few weeks back, he will be used in the passing game.A denver back with the fewest ???'s I did not know there was such a thing.
Downside...Hillis 40 yards, couple of catches, at least a chance at TD.part of me wants to.. but i can't pull the trigger on him over thomas jones
This is my dilemma - are you more confident in Hillis or less confident in CJ?yup...in for Chris Johnson.
good post.. i agree for the most part but i think tjones will have his chances to score. despite their low YPC the tenn D has still given up 10 rushing TDs.i haven't been following the denver backfield closely this week, is tatum going to get any work this week? pope?Downside...Hillis 40 yards, couple of catches, at least a chance at TD.part of me wants to.. but i can't pull the trigger on him over thomas jones
TJones 40 yards, 0 TD.
Upside...
Hillis...70-100 yards, 2-3 TDs, 4-5 catches.
TJones 100 yards, 1 TD.
That's the way I see it, because against other good DEF, TJones still takes 20-30 carries to get to 100 yards. If they can't pound it in at the goalline vs. TEN, Favre will throw it (to Leon?). Total points..NYJ probably about 13 points.
DEN...yeah we could get that downside, but OAK has been run all over. If DEN gets close, assuming they can put up 30 points this week, that means Hillis gets a couple of chances at a short TD.
Pure conjecture here...but....
A combo of both. Teams are starting to figure out how to slow CJ and the Jets are a top defense. Hillis has little to no competition and face a pathetic Oakland team that Shanny LOVES to pound on.This is my dilemma - are you more confident in Hillis or less confident in CJ?yup...in for Chris Johnson.
and Oak has given up 15 rush tds (50% more).good post.. i agree for the most part but i think tjones will have his chances to score. despite their low YPC the tenn D has still given up 10 rushing TDs.i haven't been following the denver backfield closely this week, is tatum going to get any work this week? pope?Downside...Hillis 40 yards, couple of catches, at least a chance at TD.part of me wants to.. but i can't pull the trigger on him over thomas jones

very true.. but i have a lot more confidence in tjones getting touches than any RB playing for shanahanand Oak has given up 15 rush tds (50% more).
Slaton looks to be a better play going against Cleveland.I am thinking about starting him over Steve Slaton but I just cant pull the triger myself, anyone have good reasoning to do this?
Here's a reason: The Giants want to win the game and Jacobs is their best running back.I can't see a reason for NY to play Jacobs too much.
It's about a sports writer who has no idea what he is talking about. I am sure Cockran, who is usually not a complete tool, has little idea who Hillis is and is running with Tater's name recognition as the basis for that statement.what's this all about?

Tatum Bell is the latest option used by Shanahan in a season where four running backs have started games and six have received significant playing time. Bell is expected to start Sunday against the Raiders

Don't stress, Cockran is simply mailing in his Raider reports just like the Raiders are mailing in their games.what's this all about?

even if hillis is relieved of the primary ball carrier role, he's still worth a start vs OAK since he's the unquestioned short yardage/GL back as well as the primary rb in obvious passing formations (especially considering OAK has given up 15 rushing TDs so far this season)... after this game, i completely agree with youHillis is a dangerous start this week. Maybe not in TD heavy leagues... but I don't see them leaning on their full back that much when they now have some capable backs behind him who have had a little game time, and practice time to get ready. I wouldn't be suprised at all to see Tatum Bell get the most carries. They used Bell as their closer last week, which lead me to believe that they are trying to give him a crash course, and get him some game time to get ready.
Don't outhink the situation. Bell spelled two dinged up RBs last week, nothing more. Bell won't get any short yardage or receiving touches, at best he emerges as a first & second down option between the 20s and he will have to compete with Pope and Young for those touches. Hillis is by far the best option on a pass heavy team that scores a lot of points.Hillis is a dangerous start this week. Is the bolded true? I read here somewhere that Hillis was being told where to block by Cutler, and that he may be a liability. Not sure if this is true or not. But I do agree with most of your assessment.Yes. But this week may determine if I ever start a Denver RB again while Shanahan is the head coach. This should be a no-brainer;
1. Hillis has done nothing but impress, He catches well, Runs well, blocks well.
2. Great matchup part 1, Oakland is very weak against the run.
3. Great matchup part 2, Shanahan loves to not only beat the Raiders, but to crush them.
4. Hillis' only competition for carries is PJ Pope(practice squad) and Tatum Bell (Cut by the Lions).
The only argument against is "what will Shanahan do?"
I know in my head that Shanahan isn't messing with me and all Fantasy teams, I am reasonably certain he makes his choices to give Denver the best chance to win. However, if he thinks that PJ pope and/or Tatum Bell really do give him a better chance to win this week, and Hillis ends up on the short end of fantasy points, then I give up. Never again I tell you ...
PS. Anyone think Torain can win the starting Job in Denver next year ?
I read that too about Cutler telling him who/where to block but got the impression that it was because he was new to the RB spot vs the FB spot. I'm ssure in 2 weeks he has improved since he wouldn't have studied the blocking schemes for RBs.Is the bolded true?
