Anyone Use Outside Fantasy Football Mediation Services? (1 Viewer)

Anyone in a league that uses an outside fantasy football dispute resolution service? What do you think of it? Was it useful?

I am going to start a new league next year and am wondering if I should include in the rules that disputes could be elevated to an outside mediator.

I have come across the following:

sportsjudge.com

fantasydispute.com

fantasyfootballdisputes.com

fantasyfootballmediator.com
I've been commissioner of my dynasty league for 10 years and have never used one of these resources (only just recently heard of them). Having said that, there have been a few times that I wish I DID know of these services.Historically, when faced with an exceptionally difficult decision, I've come here with questions. Sadly, the responses of my "peers" who posted before me are more often the norm rather than the exception here in the Shark Pool.

I don't think you'd be hurting yourself if you insert a catch-all statement stating something to the effect of, "If a dispute is unable to be resolved using our rules as written, whether by an oversight, or mistake in league bylaws, the dispute will be carried over to fantasydispute.com for resolution." At least you have a solution if all else fails.

The rest of these posters?

:lmao: Slight fix if this is meant to be codified in the league rules. You don't want owners thinking they can just schmooze or strongarm you into overturning the mediator's decisions. Basically, you want a tacit agreement ahead of time that everyone can live with the .00001% risk of couldn't-be-foreseen-or-helped events affecting their team's chances at some point. There is a tiny amount of unfairness that is necessarily a part of any such enterprise ... and everyone in your league needs to be aware of that and accept it ahead of time.

There's also a thread around here titled something like "Rules Every League Should Have". I've not dug into that thread myself, but it's been hanging around in the Pool for a long while, with many bumpings. Probably has good perspectives posted in there.

I would also want to be clear about the circumstances under which you become obligated to defer to that 3rd party. You don't want to be running to mediation every time someone doesn't like the outcome of a delicate situation.

FBGs used to have a feature for subscribers called "Commissioner's Court" about 5 years ago. It really helped me with some things when I first took over my league as commish. I haven't seen the feature in quite a while but I know I've sent emails to it in the past (last one circa 2007) and Joe and a former staffer, Bill Davies I think, had gotten back to me pretty quickly...within like 4 hours I believe.

IIRC the email is "askthecommish@footballguys.com"

Just send your subscriber info and detailed question...sure beats paying $15 to another service if you're already subscribed here :)

Some good advice in here. I wasn't necessarily saying that $15 is a good deal - simply that having a game plan and an option for situations when resolution isn't easy would be a good idea. Believe me: you WILL have oversights in your rules!

Good luck with your new league!
