The Boston Herald's Karen Guregian reports free agent Adrian Peterson would "consider" giving the Patriots a discount.
This is the time of year where every older veteran gets linked with the Patriots, but this one makes some sense. With LeGarrette Blount headed to free agency, New England is in need of an early-down back, and Peterson would certainly like the chance to add a ring to his resume. Considering the reported lack of interest, he might not even have to accept much less than market value. Set to occupy a role which Blount rode to 18 touchdowns last season, Peterson will be an interesting boom-or-bust fantasy discussion if he lands in New England.
 This would be NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a Belichick move.

I have two questions regarding AP and the Patriots

1/ Does he have anything left in the tank?

2/ Would the Patriots fans accept him after the child beating allegations?

The answer to question 2 depends entirely on the answer to question 1.

Yes and yes

Patriots fans are extremely moral, no doubt about that. Really hold their team to a higher standard.
Do any fans hold their team "to a higher standard" more than others?

There are some fans out there who really don't want their team signing people who have made mistakes or whose character can be questioned.  But if you mean a group of fans like "all Titans fans hold their team to the highest of standards" - not really.

Hasn't he had a high fumble rate recently? Also, I've heard his pass pro is so-so but it's not like I'm watching All-22 so not sure if that is legit criticism or not.

He's always fumbled. I doubt they go that route. This headline should read, "AP says he will give a discount to play anywhere". No one will sign him until after the draft, if they miss their guy. Maybe into training camp. But I think the talent has passed and I think he would be more of a headache than a help. LT to the jets all over again.

I think he still has value as a committee guy. More NFL than FF. Ironically, he needs to go to a team like NE or even better the Raiders, where he'd only be expected to get 150-200 carries along with GL and short yardage work. I think he'd be a great fit in Oakland with their young backs who'd complement him well.

I think AP is going to retire after this season and lose interest about 1/3 of the way into the new season.  Where ever he goes he isn't the back he once was.  His usage will be very light and i expect will get lighter as the season goes on.

Its strange to me how many people want to just bury a guy so quickly. Peterson is a year removed from running away with the rushing title. The market seems to be dictating that he will be available for roughly 4 million a year. Frankly, almost every team in the NFL should have interest at that price. Who cares if he is a 2-down RB? Almost every team in the league has a pass catching specialist at RB. I don't think people realize how bad the Vikings o-line was last season once everyone got injured, it was on an all-time bad level. Le'Veon Bell likely wouldn't have gotten to 4 YPC. Somewhat related, I think people are sleeping on McKinnon a bit too.

Back to Peterson, this would be an amazing fit, and a huge upgrade from Blount. Honestly, if it happens Peterson is probably a 2nd round pick in fantasy leagues.

I would think the frequent penchant to fumble the ball would be a greater concern to the Patriots.

I'm not disagreeing with your main point that Peterson may not be done, but a year is a long time when we're talking about 32 year old RBs.

They accepted a guy who has an active kill count.

AP will be fine.

The Vikings are a team whos PR has put a big emphasis on character in their draft evaluations and i have seen them pass on better players because of off the field issues. Except when they don't.

An example is them drafting Trey Waynes over Marcus Peters.

Of course this is the same team that drafted Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson. So obviously there are times where they make exceptions.

Very legit criticism.

Peterson has fumbled 3 times in 5 playoff appearances. Two of those in the 2009 NFC title game. People blame that loss on Favre, but those fumbles had a lot to do with it as well.

He fumbled against the Seahawks in their playoff game in 2015.

His pass protection is worse than his fumbling.

Peterson's rushing title in 2015 was pretty much by default as there were many injuries to the other top RBs that season. He didn't play as well as previously in 2015 based on my observations. There was a disconnect between the offense running plays for Peterson and the rest of the offense. Peterson was not as effective out of the shotgun while Teddy was better out of that formation. He had a lot of volume, 327 carries and his career yards per carry dropped below 5 because of that season. I just say this to show that there were signs of decline in Peterson. He did not run as well in the second half of 2015 as he did at the beginning of it. This was also his age 30 season.

The Vikings lost John Sullivan at center and Phil Loadholt at right tackle, so that was definitely a part of it as well. Those 2 were the Vikings best run blocking linemen and the offense hasn't really recovered from that. The offensive line got even worse in 2016 as they lost Kalil to injury too. Brandon Fusco declined. TJ Clemmings started way too many games.

Its Adrian Peterson. Of course he could have another great season in 2017. I never want to bet against this guy. But as a fan of the Vikings who has followed Peterson very closely his entire career, I see signs of him not being the player he once was. He was so great, that I think he can be effective even if he has lost a few steps. At the same time when RB do decline it can happen very suddenly. He is 32 years old now and did not look as good as he has before. I think the decline for him began at the second half of the 2015 season.

Wouldn't any NFL player say the same thing and/or something similar? I mean, it's the reigning SB champ, one of the best QB/coach combos in NFL history, and the team is pretty much guaranteed a post season appearance.
