Are drafts addicting? (1 Viewer)

I was listening to Tony Cincotta and Taz the other day on one of Tony's Fantasy Pros 911 Podcasts and Taz commented that he hated it when he wasn't involved in a draft; Tony concurred and they went on to dissect elements of one of the high stakes drafts Tony was currently involved in.

So my question is; do you get draft envy? I recently completed two back to back Zealots drafts and don't have anything on the docket for another couple of months. I know I can't reasonably manage many more FF teams than I currently expect to be involved in but drafting is great fun. How many of you give in to the temptation of drafting in more Leagues than you can ultimately manage because you need that drafting fix?

I get the temptation every year around this time. A couple of years ago I lowered the number of leagues I was in because it was starting to feel like work. I am just about back up to the same number again  One thing that helps is to get involved in a slow draft. They take longer and help to cure the craving for a longer period of time.

Being addicted to drafts is the wrong reason for playing FF. I rank that up there with those who value trading more than the competing for a title. Some owners don't really care about the season itself, only the draft and/or trading.

That's an interesting take from someone who picks up and drops more players then the next 6 league members put together. :goodposting:Speaking strictly for myself...I get the draft bug every spring/summer. It does NOT replace the excitement of fielding a highly competitive squad in November/December.One way to fight that bug is with free leagues at place like Fleaflicker. Minimal effort, and since half the owners never show up again after the draft, you don't have to feel guilty if you don't either. It's also interesting to see how random (presumably far less knowledgeable) folks draft. Those experiances are valuable in that they help train flexibility and alternate strategies.

Just say no.

Please consider the impact on the leagues when you figure out at some point that you are "overleagued". Then the rest of us has to deal with finding a replacement owner for your crappy mismanaged team.

I'm one of those owners and I don't really think it's sad. I hope to win like everyone else. But this is recreation first and foremost for me and I want to have fun.The draft and trading is the most fun and yes I don't care about the actual season as much as those two things. I don't care about the money as this comes from a recreational budget and I can afford to lose it. I'm not pretending to be a professional fantasy football player much like recreational poker players think they are the next Chris Moneymaker. The bottom line is most people lose in every given year. I'm not going to beat myself up over winning or losing. I like the fun and camaraderie that comes with it. For me that climaxes in the wheeling and dealing esp in the rookie draft. To each their own.

I like it.

I limited the leagues I have to manage and cured my fix by drafting in all the Survivor leagues in the mock forum and now over at the FPPC I do the 77 leagues for $77.00 you draft and the team is on autopilot / best ball format...

The 77 leagues are also the same place and scoring format as the FBG league so, it's decent practice.

I like trading and drafting also, but I care more about managing my team throughout the season. If I'm in rebuild mode I care more about trading and working the waiver wire than usual, but I still enjoy Sunday's the most.

Rene, being an active owner doesn't reduce how I feel about winning. You're missing the point. Some owners care MORE about drafting and trading than winning (those that lose interest during the season). I'm not one of those owners, yet I'm still very active in trading and working the WW.

I have 2 dynasty leagues that tend to take up most of my time. I want to keep these 2 teams competitive, but I love to draft too. That is why I started getting into DraftMaster or draft only leagues. I love to draft the team and then check in on them at the end of the week during the season to see how I am doing. All the drafting fun with no work during the season.

Is it really sad? The offseason is my favorite time of the year. Learning about all the new players, making trades in my exisitng leagues, drafting new leagues. I am also a very active owner midseason as well, trading, WW pickups, setting my lineups. However, I don't get bent outta shape if my team doesn't win, afterall this is supposed to be fun. I go ahead and assume I am gonna lose all my money I invest in these teams, that way if/when I do win, its just a bonus. I didn't know there was a right and wrong reason for playing FF. As long as you can keep up with your teams, I say draft away. There is really not that much more information you need to know, the more teams you own. I just set a bookmark with all my leagues for the year and go through them top to bottom. Takes just a couple minutes per team and I'm good. I suggest Draftmaster leagues for the real draftcrackheads, that way once you draft you are done.

:goodposting: I pretty much am "Always Drafting".

Maybe sad is a poor choice of words. I'm mostly referring to owners who are very active during the draft and with trading at some point, but lose interest during the season and you have to beg them to cover their bye weeks, respond to trades, and respond to all league business.

Speaking of the draft only leagues.................I am looking to get in a few cheap ones if anybody has any coming up. I dont mind running them if we can get enough people. Anywhere between $5-$25 would be find with me.

Why?I'm that guy. I can control what I do in a draft and what I get in a trade. I don't have control on how a player performs or whether or not he gets injured, so why would I get as wrapped up in that portion of it?

I have 2 awesome leagues that are very active and then use draftmasters as I see fit to cover the fix also. Like others said, don't ruin someones league because of this need....your 131st league may be their number 1 and they shouldn't have to put up with you.

I guess because for most the objective is to win your Super Bowl, not just draft and trade.

Totally agree. Drafting is a blast, but winning is the goal and motivation. I've never understood the guys who get into leagues-particularly dynasty leagues-and it's like twisting arms to get them to pop into the site once in a while. respond to trade offers-SHOW UP in a reasonable amount of time during the drafts, etc. If you don't play to win why bother? I've never understood that mentality.

Each offseason I get into as many leagues as my profit allows me to. Bought into two leagues 4 years ago....now am in 12. I hope to continue this trend and end up never working and living off of my FF winnings

I keep to just 3 leagues but have the most fun in them at the draft. The trash talking and suspense is great.

I actually just proposed going to an auction format in the one in order to enhance that experience even further and spice up a league that's getting stale. Very first response back was from a guy saying he'd quit the league if we went to an auction format.

Question for you draft addicts: Do mock drafts cure your cravings for drafts at all? It works for me, I get in as many mock drafts as possible leading up to my real drafts, it seems to help cure the urge for me. I agree that the draft is one of the best parts of the year.

Meh. I can't even do em anymore.

The Survivors in the mock forum and the Draft Expert Leagues are a step up because you can track the results against real good players and you get a snap shot of ADP at that point in time wether it's March or August as well as the ADP changes though the offseason.

In straight up mocks I find a lot of people just wing it more, try out new things or just plain ole mess around.
