Are stop signs and speed limits optional in a subdivision? (1 Viewer)

Yes, No or depends what time it is.  I think I am the only one that drives slow here despite the many children.

We live on a street that is an entry to a huge neighborhood.  Big mistake.  Lots of traffic.  I've become that "SLOW DOWN!" guy.

Well I can see the intersection from my screened in porch.  I am amazed my dog I let free never got hit.  But when we started her free there was a lot less traffic.  Had to fence my place because new dog but there are kids everywhere and people going 50.  My wife speeds and I get on her.

This really happened. I am leaving and it is an S curve to the stop sign, a guy passed me going as fast as he could

When we hit the main road he tried passing 5 cars on a no passing 2 lane country road and got stopped by a stop light.   I got him stopped and next to him.  What do you do?

Call the police/hwy patrol/sheriff.  if the police know he might be intoxicated, they may react faster.

I strongly considered laying my own speed bump in front of our house at one time.

Of course, that wouldn't have ended well so I didn't do it.

Some live here.  Or at least I see their cars in driveways.  I am not on fb but there is a site for the subdivision.  I guess I can post under my wife's name botching but I like the one time a month sex.

Speed limit - no ####### way, too many kids and animals that may just run out in the road.  I'll allow rolling stops at stop signs though.

As I've been teaching my 15 year old to drive this has been one of my points of emphasis - NEVER speed in neighborhoods and always be on the lookout for people, especially kids on bikes.

My town has one of the highest percentage of cops to residents around and believe you me, they will stop you if you smile wrong.

We had friends get stopped for going 3 mph over. I got a ticket for a railroad crossing violation. My wife and I have both been pulled over for other silly things that didn't result in tickets.

So the answer to OP is no, the laws, especially in subdivisions, apply.

This is pretty fair.

I almost never go over 20 in the neighborhood but I will take a stop sign at 3mph all day long, assuming a clear line of sight.

I thought you were asking this question literally. My wife's sister and her family live in a neighborhood that doesn't have stop signs at any of the intersections except the main one to enter. Baffling.

Stop signs are valuable in telling people the limit on how slow they can be without annoying the drivers behind them too badly.  It's always OK to go up to 10 mph faster than the limit.  Sometimes more depending on the road.

All stop signs should be ripped out and replaced with yield signs.

People in FL think these mean speed up.

You can definitely get a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign.

But most state laws do not actually require stop signs at intersections, but rather they are installed at the discretion of the local road authority.  The recent trend in traffic engineering for low-volume, low-speed intersections (i.e. within subdivisions) is to eliminate stop signs at intersections with low accident history and good sight distance.  There are a few reasons behind this:

(1) Numerous studies show that vehicular speeds actually increase between streets with stop signs.  Human nature is to speed up to make up for the lost time.

(2) Traffic engineers (and law enforcement) want drivers to respect and follow all signage, but if motorists perceive a sign to be unrealistic they will ignore that sign, and eventually many other signs.  A good example is motorists ignoring a speed limit (sign) that is clearly too low, or a stop sign that is unnecessary.

(3) The less traffic signs you see, the higher probability that you actually pay attention to the ones you do see.

Our street is a cut through from one pretty major road to the highway. My wife and I are the slow down people people too.

My sister's subdivision has a 3 way stop sign at it.  I roll through it usually, but don't drive fast.

Had a lady yell at me from her driveway for running the stop sign one time about how her kids play around there.  I didn't say anything, but I'm pretty sure that the stop signs aren't there for the kids.  The stop sign is there for proper traffic flow.  The speed limit is for the kids.  And what kind of crappy mom lets their kids play in the street?  And what about all of the houses around the neighborhood that don't have stop signs in front of them?  Are those kids in grave danger?

I get yelling at speeders because that's just dangerous, but people rolling through stop signs isn't a danger to your kids, lady.
