I don't think so because we are the only first world nation that life expectancy has declined.

No. Middle class is shrinking. That’s a problem. However democrats are too busy trying to impeach trump to do anything
What’s your take on the hi-partisan legislation that has passed the house but McConnell won’t bring to the senate floor?

Hard no, and anyone even attempting to blame this on one party over the other is absolutely fooling themselves.  Our political system is broken (long before Trump) and needs a complete overhaul if those in the Middle class and below have any real chance

I agree with this on this simple reality.  It doesn't matter which party is in control.  Money always flows up and rhetoric down.  There are no fiscal conservatives.

The system is broken, but we can't rely on the federal government to care for the poor. They're too busy lining their own pockets with donations from lobbyists and voting for pay raises for themselves, to say nothing of McConnell's utter and complete incompetence at his job.

Fair assessment.

But the truth is, the progressive left cares about policies more than the person.  So if Bernie falls, Ro is next will all the same support, younger, browner but still a Male but non of that should matter.

Absolutely, both parties are interested in power at their very core. That's why I don't join a political party. Honestly, both sides have some good ideas, but a lot of very bad ideas, too.

Of course not.

The Dems are too busy impeaching and investigating and passing bills that have no shot at bipartisan support.(for the most part)
A solid chunk of the bills currently rotting on McConnell's desk are bipartisan. He is the 2nd biggest problem facing progress in the legislature.

Those are not Dems.  They are DINOs.  The best thing the devil ever did was to make you think there were 2 parties.

Dem in there would find a reason to stall them too.  And if 60 dems couldn't pass healthcare. Trump safe too.  All an act.

It's not the middle class that's without health care. Or homeless.  Let's keep our eye on ball.

Squirrel!

This isn't about Dems.  Are WE (we includes YOU) taking care of our citizens?

I pay a disproportionate amount of taxes, and take relatively little from the govt.

I "take care of our citizens" far more than most.

We dont have poor in this country, just people with way less.  The goal should be to get people to work meaningful jobs that pay well and help those who cannot.  By help i mean, treatment, training etc.  I dont have much sympathy for lazy people looking for handouts.

There are major charity organizations where you can help a kid in the US.   Mine was in Indonesia help her 10 years. Usd goes a long way there.

Probably not, term limits, make the salary for reps the average of the people they are representing seems a better start for me.
I like term limits, but make the salary $5.00 an hour with no overtime. They shouldn't be trying to get rich. Also make lobbying illegal, no corporate interests allowed anywhere near the legislative body.

The rich and well off vote in their own self interest.

When the poor and middle class do the same, maybe you might get somewhere. At the moment they vote against their own self interest or dont bother voting at all. Then they complain about all these things being done to destroy their self interest.

I am okay with them making the average of the people they represent.  They get huge other perks.  But this is not my idea but I love it, body cam when u meet with lobbyists.

I don't disagree with you but tell me what news station is telling the poor how they are getting screwed?  Isn't illegal to teach about money in public schools?

You think how smart the average person is out there. 50% are dumber than him or her.

The uneducated, the ill informed, the poor, of whatever political persuasion are like cats chasing a laser. Easily distracted.

Immigrants......chase the laser

Socialists.....chase the laser

whatever else...chase the laser

Meanwhile the better organized, wealthier class are making out like bandits and laughing at the rest. Its easy to blame those in power, but why would they change the rules when far too many people believe their scare tactics?

No matter who gets put up against Trump, the scare tactics will work and the poor and middle class problem gets put off.

First off, I think you make some good points.  Almost everything I stand up for is against my best financial interests.

Republicans run on less deficit, total lie.

Then they go religion, abortion and gun.  All are non money issues.

Corporate Dems run nothing.

They want you not to give money to poor people but make sure they are not hurt by words.  They fight the non money issues, guns, freedom of choice, and abortion.

Win win for these groups.

It will all change soon.  We have the life expectancy less and upwards mobility less, dumb people forgot one thing.

What they forgot is that young people have more access to information than ever before, so when they are getting screwed they know it now.  Welcome to the new world.

True but they sleep well at night for not screwing billionaires and multi-millionaires out of money they deserve like Rush tells them they do.

This is obviously a very complex issue. One in which I have no idea what the answer is (not even confident enough to even vote in this poll).

OTOH, I think rich folks should pay more taxes. I'd love to see single payer healthcare, etc. For the most part, I'm a liberal on these issues.

OTOH, anecdotally, I'm amazed at how many people can get by with no work ethic at all. Stacked as the deck may be, you can get by in this country with low-skilled jobs if you are willing to work. If you get married, you need to pick a partner that'll work (from what I see, so many fail to demand that qualification in a partner). You probably don't need to have 6 kids working in a low-skilled job. Probably best to avoid car payments on a new truck. And of course, live on a budget.

Working in the restaurant business might have me jaded. I see so many people that either make enough money, or have the ability to make enough money, for a comfortable living blowing it with poor decisions and taking little responsibility for their own circumstances.

These issues likely aren't even really related, just my thoughts. No, we aren't doing enough for those that truly need help. No, we shouldn't cut safety net programs just because some abuse them. Yes, politically, it's going the wrong way and the rich will certainly just keep getting richer.

But I have my "get off my lawn" side that just wants to tell some people to stop whining and go to work. It's possible to make it in this country if you're willing do so.
