Are you benching FWP this week (1 Viewer)

I am contemplating sitting FWP this week - he typically struggles against Baltimore and I have Rudi Johnson as an option sitting on my bench.

What are other FWP owners doing this week?

I almost did. I have Henry Den on the bench recovering from his ribs and sharing too much with S Young, so I am going to gamble with FWP. One long run and he should outscore Travis for me.

i might bench him. not sure yet. we start 3 RBS

kevin jones

willie parker

frank gore

maurice jones drew

rudi johnson

if gore is starting im going to bench parker and play KJ, MJD, and Gore. I dont think willie will do anything special monday night

Parker cannot have that bad of a game. Everyone is saying to sit Parker, but I can't believe that he is going to do that poorly. It is not like anything has changed on the offense (such as Steve Smith last week losing Vinny Testaverde).

The game is on a Monday night, and he is the core of their offenses. Just take a look at the teams Baltimore has played. There is all this hype that Balt. doesn't give up that many rushing yards. But who have they played?

Balt. has played Cinci (who has been running terribly), San Francisco (where Frank Gore can't even run on the Saints), St. Louis (without Steven Jackson), New York Jets (where Thomas Jones is not being used enough), Arizona (where Edge averaged 5.7 ypg), Cleveland (where they gave up 90+ yards to Jamal Lewis and Jason Wrigtht), and Buffalo (where they allowed Marshawn Lynch 84 yards and a TD).

Rudi is just too shaky for me to give him the nod, whereas, Parker is a stud.

I wasn't considering benching FWP until I read the Post Gazette this morning:

NOTES -- Pro Bowl G Alan Faneca did not practice yesterday because of a back problem and has been added to the official injury report. The move was considered precautionary, however, and he is expected to practice today.
To make make things harder for me, this was Arians yesterday:
It was a bold day for offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, and it had nothing to do with his play-calling or his game plan for the Baltimore Ravens.

First, he said Ravens safety Ed Reed is better than Troy Polamalu, a comment that might be considered sacrilegious in this town.

Then he guaranteed the Steelers will be able to run the ball against the Ravens when the teams meet Monday night in Heinz Field.

Willie Parker, who leads all National Football League running backs with five 100-yard games, was held to 50 yards on 23 carries in two games against the Ravens last season. Arians said that won't happen again, even though the Ravens have the league's No. 2 rush defense.

"Partly, it was us; we took a pass-first mentality to Baltimore and it backfired," Arians said yesterday after practice. "Last year was last year. All I'm worried about is this year. We're going to run the football, make no bones about it."

Asked if that meant attempt to run the football, Arians said, "No, we're going to run the football."

But his comment about Polamalu, a three-time Pro Bowl selection and the youngest member of the Steelers' 75th anniversary team, might be even more shocking.

"Ed's a great player," Arians said of Reed, a thee-time Pro Bowl selection and the NFL's defensive player of the year in 2004. "I personally think he's the best. I love Troy and I think he's good, but Ed is really good."
So it looks as if I will be scouring the reports to see if Faneca practiced today. I believe LT Smith was held out of practice Wednesday...things just don't seem that peachy to me. :lmao:

The only league I have him in has 14 teams and allows 4 RBs. So no, I can't see benching him there. You pretty much play players if they have a pulse :lmao:

In smaller leagues, sure. he isn't a top 15 RB this week IMO. So if you landed KJones and Portis, or some other combo later, I'd bench him.

Arians comments don't do jack for me.

There's a big difference between running the football, and running the football successfully.

If Parker goes 25 times for 60 yards, is that a victory? Especially not for FF players.

This isn't a secret obviously: Baltimore's offense is inert. Dead average in yards gained, and 25th overall in points scored.

Pitt won't need anything more than a conservative game plan to win this week.

All that being said, I can't help but consider benching Parker for Evans, Maroney, or Bowe. Evans is the front runner.

Im doing the opposite, going with Henry over FWP.

I wouldn't ever bench him at home, especially on Monday night.
Fwiw drafted FWP his rook year. From what I have seen he does not fare well vs. top defenses. He will be on my keeper league roster as long as he starts but will never be in my line up vs. a top 5 run def.

Very  I think Henry is a very good play this week, I don't see Young getting much work, and the Lions D is not the Balt D

My expectation for this week ONLY because of the ribs. Not historical.

Very  I think Henry is a very good play this week, I don't see Young getting much work, and the Lions D is not the Balt D
And Henry is not FWP. Great RB vs great D or good back vs good D(that may be a stretch). FWP at home tips the scale for me.

For me, it really comes down to 2 of 3. FWP, Henry or Steve Smith with Carr(ugh). Right now, I am hoping Carolina will force feed Smith so I have FWP and Smith going.

Historically, Balt handles FWP, but I have a feeling this week it will be different. Most likely Balt will be without both starting CBs so I could see Ptt taking advantage of mismatches between Holmes & Ward vs Ivy and Martin early. Ivy might give Ward a little bit of a fight, but Martin can't handle Holmes which will force double coverage also LBs will most likely need to soften a bit to aid in pass coverage. It just looks like FWP will have more lanes, especially outside of the guards, than normal as Balt will have to worry more about Big Ben and the passing game given the injuries.

if he can come up with a productive game against Baltimore that would be nice because after that his schedule looks to be really easy

Actually, the part where Arians says ""Partly, it was us; we took a pass-first mentality to Baltimore and it backfired," Arians said yesterday after practice. "Last year was last year. All I'm worried about is this year. We're going to run the football, make no bones about it."Let's take a look at the last four games:

2006

Nov 26 @ BAL - FWP was 10/22 with a long of 12 rushing; 2/15 long of 10 receiving; PIT down 17-0 at half, no other rushing attempts by a RB, combined 42 passing attempts; final - BAL 27-PIT 0

Dec 24 @ PIT - FWP was 13/29 with a long of 8 rushing, 0 receptions, PIT down 14-0 9:59 left in 2nd, 1 other rushing attempt by Davenport, combined 42 passing attempts; final BAL 31-PIT 7

2005

Oct 31 @ PIT - FWP was 14/63 with a long of 16 rushing, 2/18 receiving with a long of 10; PIT holds lead entire game, 10 other rushing combined by Haynes, Bettis, Randel El, combined 31 passing attempts: final PIT 20-BAL 19

Nov20 @ BAL - FWP was 18/59 with a long of 14 rushing, 2/22/1TD receiving with a long of 11; PIT down 13-6 at half, 3 other rushing attempts by Bettis and Haynes, combined 32 passing attempts; final BAL 16-PIT 13

It's still seems like a risk to start him, but if the Steelers stick with the running game like they say, FWP could improve on his previous stats vs. Ravens...and could put forth his typical game.

Still, I am considering starting Travis Henry over FWP.

just don't go sitting him based off last year vs. Balt.

A lot has changed, namely a good passing game and their defense will have to keep some help toward the 2 backup CBs

 I factored in the CB injuries, just didn't post it.

I'm sitting FWP this week and am starting ADP and Portis. I would normally never sit FWP but Portis' matchup seems to make him a solid play.

I am in league where you start 2 RB 2WR and 1 flex and with the flex I almost always start a RB. That holds true this week, and FWP is starting over Foster/DeWilliams or Roddy White. I don't expect FWP to have a great week, I expect him to be very average or below this week, but still a better more consistent option than the others mentioned.

I'm still mulling it, but I'm thinking of benching FPW for MJD and ADP. All three sound like mediocre options this week, but I need two. A MNF showcase game at home smells juicy though, Heinz will be jacked. It's either one of those games where he blows up or get 65 yards. This is a move that is just tough to nail.

Free Willie Parker is a great start this week. He is way underrated. PIT is the biggest favorite of the week. PIT is likely to get the lead and then rely more heavily on the run than usual, and they are very unlikely to be blown out and have to abandon the run. Somebody has to get those points for PIT and Free Willy is as likely as anybody. I am starting him over Edge.

I plan on starting FWP & Addai this week.
Those are my 2 backs as well. Have MJD but at this point leaving FWP in there. Track record vs. the Ravens is not good, but again 1 run can change all of that. I hate the OC's comments though. Tells me they are going to pass pass pass. They said they were going to pound it at Denver and they threw it all over the yard.
