I do follow the Tigers, and that goes back to watching Al Kaline and George Kell doing the games on a little black & whote in my bedroom or listing to Ernie Harwell on the AM dial. Sitting in the bleacher seats for the drunken fan riots in the 80s and the 35-5 Tigs in ’84.The NBA is in a lockout. It is? Yawn. It’s Hockey time. It is? Call me for the playoffs – there’s nothing like playoff hockey intensity, but regular season is dull.Nothing gets to me like football. My wife still makes fun of the way I would shake when Barry Sanders ran, as if I was transmitting my nervous energy to him over the wires for one more insane stop-start-spin. And of course, I was. I should be in Canton. The changing leaves, moody clouds, apple cider – this is just an amazing time. And it just FEELS like football. I want to hit someone, and drive them through the drywall. (I did hip check someone in the office once, but that was years ago). What a season. Won’t be anythign like it … until next year.

Tell your wife to get a job/2nd job and use the 'when the other isn't around' time, with my blessings.'Modog814 said:I've basically made this deal with my wife, although we haven't really come out and formally said it, but it's what it's boiled down to:
I get to watch all the pro football my heart desires (and my wife tolerates it)
I can occasionally watch a hockey game (Devils) fan, but will turn it off if she really doesn't want to watch it (except if it's the playoffs)
Watch basically no baseball or basketball.
Get to watch the Triple Crown races.
In return she's to watch no reality tv such as the housewives of blah blah or jersey shore in my presence.
Of course when the other isn't around we're free to watch what we wish.
So essentially, yes I could give up all other sports and only watch football.
Yah, I like to watch fights in the Octagon, too. I'm a green belt in Matsubayashi-Ryu (subset of Shorin-Ryu) Okinawan Karate and my kids are students of it, too. We also like to watch Hong Kong Kung-Fu flicks and other martial-arts. But I don't think MMA is a major sport just yet, though FOX is carrying their heavy weight title-bout in November IIRC. MMA may become a major spectator sport in the next 10 years, though - I can see it replacing high-profile boxing matches in the public consciousness (to orchestrate events like "The Thriller in Manilla" and etc is what I mean by high-profile).MyIf all I had was football I would be a happy clam. The only thing else I get into with regularity is MMA. Other than that I'm a fair weather fan of all WI sports. The good news is I'm watching a lot of sports as of late.![]()

I could give a rat's ### about sports other than NFL football. I am shamelessly fair-weather for local sports teams, and I usually only sit down to watch a non-football game when a) the local team is in it and b) it's the playoffs. Sometimes also c) the finals. However, I will watch preseason football. I will watch bad MNF / SNF match-ups. It really doesn't matter, if it's NFL football. I'll watch some college football if I happen to be somewhere where it's on (a party, at a bar, etc.) but I don't go out of my way to catch it.
There are other sports beyond Football? Really? I can watch college football to some extent. The NBA is meh. College Basketball is only interesting to me for March Madness. And to be honest, I only really started watching NFL in my teen years BECAUSE of fantasy football. I didn't watch football hardly at all but played fantasy football one year because a friend asked me to. Now the NFL is almost all there is.'3nOut said:Are you guys really football fans? Is football hands-down your favorite sport? Or do you like it because of fantasy football? I was thinking about this the other day and thought I'd ask you guys the same question(s) I asked myself:
Which sport is your favorite? Would you give up watching all other sports if you could choose to watch only one sport? Chicago sports has had its ups and downs and I follow most of our teams casually.
Football: Bears
Baseball: Cubs, Sox
Basketball: Bulls
Hockey: Blackhawks
Soccer: Fire
Arena Football: Rush
Minor League Hockey: Wolves
Women's Basketball: Sky
Are there other sports you would choose to watch instead like golf, tennis, auto racing, etc?
If I had to choose to watch only one of these teams and give up all others I realized I had two answers. If I was to give watching other sports for only one year, I would easily give up the Bears this year and watch only the Chicago Blackhawks. If I was to have to pick one for the rest of my life, I think I would choose the Bears as my only sport to watch, regardless of whether I am playing fantasy football or not.
Thoughts?
Good posting. I follow the NBA draft, trades and news almost as much as the NFL, but not for fantasy. I hate NBA fantasy, horrible set up with the categories and too many games. NFL weekly lineups is perfect for fitting fantasy sports into everyday life.I think the reason football is dominating every other sport is because fantasy is a PERFECT compliment to football. 16 weeks with the bulk of the action coming on a Sunday means you can squeeze it into your normal schedule b/c the routine is simple:Sunday: Watch GamesMon-Tues: Waiver researchWed-Sat: WDIS Research82 games in basketball and 100+ games in baseball is too messy when you compare it to football. I used to watch basketball way back in the day. I rather watch the combine and the NFL Draft instead of basketball nowadays.
They key is not to spread yourself too thin. By that I mean with different sports, all being dynasty. That's why I only play in one baseball league each year, that being my dynasty league. I play in 9 dynasty football leagues, but the research done for football can be used for all my teams. You might say, what's the problem since baseball and football aren't really played at the same time? In my baseball league we can have minor league players, high school players, and college players, so research is year round. Same for dynasty football leagues, especially those that can roster college development players. If you only play in dynasty leagues like I do, spreading yourself too thin can do two things. It can cause a rift between you and your better half and it can make you not as effective in all your leagues in all sports.Good posting. Give College FF a try. Been in a league on CBS the past 2 years.MMA first. I watch every event I can and study as many fighters as I can. This is the easiest sport to make money on by far if you know your stuff.Football second. Fantasy makes it more fun so I rarely watch college ball. I've really just been a NFL fan since I was 5 and its stuck with me.
But what if I'm sitting on the other side of the stadium? or in the end zone bleachers?'Leroy Hoard said:I like it when they say a team is going "from right to left on your radio dial".
