Arian Foster is about to demonstrate (1 Viewer)

I want to start this post by saying that I was as high as anyone on Arian Foster coming into this league. I own him in almost all my dynasty leagues because he was a guy that I thought was supremely underrated entering the NFL. I'm an SEC guy and he was one of those guys that I watched in college and said "he's going to be on my fantasy team".

That said, Arian Foster is not an elite talent. He's just not. He's a good NFL running back, but he's only an elite fantasy player because of his situation. Adrian Peterson or Ray Rice he is not.

I realize I'm not saying anything that most people don't already know here, but here's where we get started.

Today vs Indy, Ben Tate is going to look good because, let's face it, anyone is going to look good in this Texans offense. Foster's injury is his hamstring, so the likelihood that he misses more than just this week (whether it be next week or later on in the season when he tweaks it again) is high. When he does, Tate will likely look good again.

The Texans situation is likely going to end up in another dreaded RBBC scenario for the long-term. IMHO, by the time this season ends Foster will no longer be considered an elite, top 5 fantasy running back going forward because he'll no longer be the bellcow.

To me, this demonstrates yet another reason that talent is so vital in dynasty leagues even beyond just the "the team could get worse" risk, especially at the running back position. When a guy is such a benefactor of a great situation then his backups are a benefactor of that situation as well when he misses time, and since this is the running back position we're talking about, the likelihood that he'll eventually miss time is high.

If a guy like Adrian Peterson gets hurt for a month, his backup is not going to come in and put up Adrian Peterson production while he's gone, and Peterson is not at risk of losing his workhorse spot just because he misses some time.

This is just one more to add to the list of reasons that guys like Peterson and Rice should be planted firmly above a guy like Foster in dynasty rankings.

i think ben tate has the talent but ward does not. your point will be proven when Tate wins the job in the second half.

When Foster returns, he'll return to being the RB and still get his 25 touches/game. People seem to quickly forget that despite Ward averaging over 6 ypc last year, there was no such thing as RBBC in Houston.
