Ashley Lelie (1 Viewer)

He has the potential to be Vicks go to WR over time after some chemistry is established but I've read reports saying the Falcons were really hoping to land a 3rd WR behind White and Jenkins.

So will Lelie rise to #1 or be the same dud he was in Denver

Do yourself a favor and leave any WR that depends on Vick to get them the ball alone. I wouldn't touch any Vick wr especially Lelie.

i look at it this way:

Lelie went from holding out (and getting fined a ton) where he had Plummer throwing to him to a place he will be the best WR and have passes thrown at his feet, over his head, and deep passes sometimes on the money

The word Vick and the phrase "go to WR" do not and should not be put together. How does Lelie's value change? It went from bad to worse. I would only take him as my #6 WR.

TV reports in Colorado are "Lelie gets what he wanted."

All I can think is "No he didn't"...there's no way he's putting up the big numbers he wantes in Atlanta. He's option #6 behind Dunn, Vick, White, Crumpler and Jenkins.

What a tool...

As a Bronco fan, just glad they got a 3rd rounder for him. Although Washington's 3rd rounder could be nearly a 4th rounder...

#3 WR (maybe 5th receiving option?) on a run first team. Ugh.

Terrible deal IMO for the Falcons. Pathon sucks, but they should of waited until cuts & picking up a WR vs. parting with Duckett.

I feel this deal has disaster written all over it. He's been moaning about not being #1 WR (so he can put up #'s in his contract year), well he's not getting #'s here either.

As others have said, he's relying on Michael Vick to get him the ball. That's akin to relying on Bud Light to get you drunk.

Atlanta had ashley Lelie before. he was Dez White!! speed to stretch the defense, and a QB who can't pass. Lelie just dropped totally off the board.

How the mighty have fallen....well sort of mighty... :)

Seriously, once upon a time, ALelie was a nice guy to have on your roster...lots of upside and on a dynamic team. He had that one nice year a couple of seasons ago and voila......bustville!. I think all those drops he had last season during the first game of the year vs Miami pyschologically messed his head up. Remember that game? I know I do as I think he dropped at least 3 perfectfully timed long Plummer passes...2 of them would have been for sure TD's. He never was the same after that and Plummer lost confidence in him as well.

Shame cause Lelie has some nice talent...just doesn't seem to have the stomach or the cajones to go over the middle and make the tough catches....oh well. Nothing to seeh here IMO either....Vick won't help him nor will the fact being the 3rd WR on the Falcons which isn't exactly fantasy heaven.

The only manner in which this trade affects Lelie is he will now simply suck in a different uniform.

Seriously, nothing to see here. We are talking about the #3 WR on ATL. Which really makes him the #4 target at best. And this is with a running back throwing to him.

im gonna take the other side on this one

i remember when Lelie was coming out of Hawaii there was big talk of the Falcons drafting him and how much Vick liked him and how he wanted to play with him.

Now he gets his chance and you know that Lelie will be itching to prove the Broncos and the rest of the league wrong. He does have talent, maybe he just hated playing in Denver, you never know.

I for one would take a late round flier on the guy and see what happens, he has talent and speed to burn and is probably Atlanta's most talented WR right now

I don't think he's fallen at all. He's still the same WR, the shark pools perspective on him is all that's changed. He's never had the cojones to go over the middle. He's never had great hands, if he had great hands to go along with all that speed he'd have been drafted in the top 5 of the draft instead of where he was drafted. Didn't seem to slow people from over-hyping him last summer. Now the pool doesn't think he'll eventually beat out White/Jenkins for a starting spot. What a fickle bunch... especially when you consider how many second(third? fourth?) chances a guy like david boston gets. Lelie will finish the season a starter in ATL. For that matter, I think the second half of the season Lelie get the most receiving yards on the team. Receptions and TD's may be another matter. For all of those who think Lelie is a drastically different player than last summer; in what way?

Depite all the animosity towards Lelie by the board, this should prove to be a good change for him.

According to Jim Mora, Greg Knapp, Michael Vick and Bill Musgrave; expect a lot of Shotgun formations from Atlanta. It definitely won't be a "run first" team this year, bank on it. That said, he has the least value of all the Falcons receivers. There will be too many options for one dominant fantasy WR. The only Falcons player who really benefits from this aquistion is Michael Vick, who has legitimate receivers for the first time in his career. No, Peerless Price and Dez White do not count. LOL

Here's a thing I do not understand. David Carr is a good QB, who doesn't have a lot of help. Michael Vick is a running back, and what is holding the Falcons passing attack back. Seems hypocritical to me. A QB is only as good as his surroundings. Why else did Donovan McNabb go from an overrated, inaccurate scrambler into a stud when he got Terrell Owens?

I have to agree. Or at least this is the direction I am leaning. If Lelie was holding out because he didnt want to be the 3rd receiver in a potent Denver offense why wouldnt he HOLD out now or cause this trade some problems if Atlanta got him to be their 3rd receiver too. I say he's getting the start over Jenkins or White. This trade doesnt make sense otherwise, does it? Why would Lelie play now.

I remember after a preseason game a fews years back, there where a lot of people were high on Leslie.

Atlanta is actually attempting to become more pass oriented, if you look at the new oline acquisitions this year, they are also the biggest men on the team, so they are at least attempting to build him a pocket. Of course, none of them are starting yet, and Atlanta has also been saying that they are trying to be more pass oriented, and get Vick to be more of a pocket passer, for 5 years now.

Until they actually do it, and Vick proves that he can allow a WR to have a decent year, I'm staying away from any WR in Atlanta. Even if Owens, Harrison or Steven Smith went to Atlanta they'd still be huge risks as a #3 fantasy WR because, even though they are great, it's hard to catch a ball with your feet, or the 5 foot long arms they'd need to catch his other attempts.

Odds are Vick won't make it half way through the season anyway, and then it's who, Schaub? That may actually be better for them, he did play well against NE (his only start), but my beloved Patriots had one of the worst passing D's in football last year. The rest of his 'experience' is in garbage time, but he did look good.

 Please see post #3. :hophead:

An upgrade. He went from having no value to having virtually no value. Nicely done!
The group of WRs that Atl has accumulated are going to have an extremely hard time keeping Lelie from being anything less than the WR3. Matter of fact , there is really no way possible I see Lelie as anything lower than that. In reality he will problaly become the WR2 in a short amount of time. How this is virtually no value or a bad thing is beyond me. They guy wasn not even projected to play in Den.

I just stumbled across Lelie's journal entry on nflplayers.com after the trade and thought some of you might find his view on arriving in ATL entertaining

New Life in Atlanta

08/24/06

"It feels real good to have a fresh start, to begin a new chapter in my life. It’s good to get everything behind me and get on with playing football.

I want to help the team as much as I can to get to a Super Bowl. The only reason I am here is to make this team better.

Right now, I am like the 10th receiver. :lmao:

They have all those guys that have been here for training camp and have been through it. I have to work for everything that I get out here. I can not take anything for granted right now."

Any guesses as to how soon Lelie can learn ATLs system and make an impact?

Similar question in how quick Stallworth learns in Philly is it not?
