Ashley Madison hacked - Start hiding everything (1 Viewer)

Would anyone feel bad for these dudes really?
Data privacy is a huge deal and hackers seem to be able to access any site they choose to focus on. Companies are saying our information is secure on their sites when in fact the opposite is true. This is the larger story here and one everybody should be concerned about.

And then there are 37 million cheaters concerned about another issue also...

Fair point. The entirety of my finances and life are online. A little scary to know that's all fair game. Although I have to imagine Citi and the big banks have much more comprehensive security than do the likes of what are effectively porn sites.

I know people responsible for security in both sectors (finance and actual porn, not dating). I can tell you that my experience is the porn guys are doing it better. Case in point: when is the last time you heard about a Mindgeek site getting hacked?

I doubt one does it better. I dont think anyone has a fool proof method. Im sure its as simple as finance has more people attempting to hack them. Given enough time, hackers can get into anything.

Of course. Every network is hackable and there is no full proof method. I was just pointing out my experience (I work for a host).

When's the last time a bank or large financial institution has been hacked; at least with public knowledge?
JPMorgan Chase last year. Not sure if that was the most recent.
September/October 2014 - but how many happen that we don't know about and go unreported (I am betting this is a rather significant number).

Edit: My issue with this hacking/breech will be the number of innocent kids adversely affected.

Actual hacks/breaches of customer information? They all get reported as they legally have to.

Attempted/failed hacks probably number in the thousands. Not sure why those would get reported.

What about all the guys on there just for curiosity sake?
I have a friend who used AM and he was telling me that he would get charged $5 for every mail sent to a prospective woman (whether she replies or not). If that is the case, seems like it would be a pretty pricey endeavor (not that this would be an issue for FBGs who are all in the top 1% of income).

Fixed.

So is it just pure dumb luck that with all these hacks that seem to be going on all the time that I've never been affected or no one I know that's been affected? What are these hackers actually doing with all this information that they've gotten access to?

Selling stats for advertisers imo.

There is a site haveibeenpwned or something like that, where you can see if your emails have been compromised. I found it through the Reddit links that were posted.

One of my old emails was compromised in a big adobe leak, but all my current ones are cool.

Everyone you know would inform you if the bank sent them a new debit card?

I don't see the big deal. I've heard the AM commercials where one spouse comes clean to the other about using the site, and they're always so understanding. You get the feeling by the end that the other is going to try it, too, and it will strengthen their marriage or something. So obviously this will all just double their membership numbers.

Women use it too.

A former AM employee did an "ask me anything" on Reddit the other day.

She said that it isn't just individual males that use the site. There are also a lot of swingers who use it to meet other couples. She also told a story about a woman that, due to health problems, could not have sex with her husband. She actually begged him to get an account on AM so he could enjoy himself.

This is just a link to a page saying nothing has been released... Washeonashleymadison.comI guess someone plans on making an easy search site when/if the info becomes available.

If this is legit there are going to be terrabytes of data, depending on what they release. If they include pics it would be huge.

I know.

Maybe that is why I don't have FBG money. People are pretty creative/inventive. Never would have occurred to me to start a website about the subject.

So are they releasing names of people who actually paid to use the service, or the whole 30mil - 90% of which are people who got a free account just to see who the hell is on the site?

(asking for a friend)

Then sell ads to divorce lawyer on the side.

I just have the expectation that everything is going to get hacked. I'm in healthcare, and the hacks happening at health systems and insurance companies are commonplace now, and I think it's the tip of the iceberg.

If this gets out there are going to be some interesting Divorce Court proceedings...
