Assani's Poker Thread (3 Viewers)

Ouch...too bad Assani, nothing our could do there.

QQ vs. AA.

Congrats on the $600 or so.
Thanks.I hate getting so close and not making it.

Hopefully I can make the final table of the Million $ guaranteed later today.

Hey man, tough luck there. Lot of gambling going on now - me included. Hopefully i can avoid the landmines here for a bit longer
I'll stick around and watch.Oh, and I wasn't ignoring you after I busted out...its just that Party doesn't allow you to chat after you're out.

GL man

Yeah, realized that after the fact. You playing later? I'm not sure yet. I may already be MTTd out for the day.

Assani,

You should chat with tmc some about live games- he plays in some pretty big cash games. The few times I have spoken with him, I was most impressed HE IS VERY SMART. He gets lost in shuffle sometimes, but he is one of the first people I would talk to if I was trying to improve my game.

Tim, they are shooting to have some of the Beau Rivage up in running in late 2006.

I appreciate it the opinion but I'm not sure what I could help Assani with to be honest. I love his game from the little we've played together and his results speak for themselves. Good to hear they are rebuilding biloxi. You still planning on staying there (sorry to hijack your thread jw)

/reply to hijackI don't think any of us have much to offer him online- although a good sentence that sets off the light in your head in an otherwise mediocre poker book can save you thousands of dollars. I think given how he plays so many tables at once he could learn some things abou the little differences of playing live- and you are a tremendous player.

As to me, I don't know what I am doing. They are putting trailers on my school site, but I think they may be dropping the more expensive parts of the art program- ceramics and sculpture. I teach painting and drawing and will likely be safe for the time being- but it is still total carnage here.

/end hijack

Damn, just mucked TT from sb and would have tripled up. Oh well. That reraise said AK or a better pair than mine.

You're in a good position still wiht a healthy stack...don't worry about it. You can take this.

Assani,

Clearly you a better poker player than I
RFW, I know that you're a better player than me, so I'm not trying to argue...just trying to get some clarification.
I found this interesting. Anytime I get a big head, I go read through some old threads of mine on poker and read RFW time and time again tell me what an idiot I am(in a very nice way of course) for slowplaying my monsters when theres draws on the board or other similar mistakes.FYI, I think that a great poker player must prove himself over time....its silly to think that because I've played and been successful for 2 years or so that I have anywhere near the knowledge of some here who have played for their entire lives. I may have raw abilities, but I need to get a lot more experience before I put myself in the top level of players.

RFW, have you been playing recently? I know that you're life has been hectic with the tragedies of this past year, but I was just wondering.

TMC went out in 8th...good run man. You should enter the one coming up.
That kind of sucked. Raced once and lost (TT vs AQ) then went in as a slight favorite (A6 vs KQ) and lost on back to back hands. Out in 8th before the big money

hey assani - have you used party's new deal making features? just curious how they work here
No, I don't know anything about them. Do you know anything or is there a post on 2+2 or a part of their website about it?

RFW, have you been playing recently? I know that you're life has been hectic with the tragedies of this past year, but I was just wondering.
I have played very little in the last 12 months. We lost a lot in the storm, I am the only income in the house, and I just haven't ever had more than $100 dollars that I felt I could lose and feel OK about. I lost a lot of my art, and almost all of my documentation of it. So I have been trying to make as much art as I can and reshoot slides of what I have left. I just don't seem to be able to find the time or the energy to be a good husband, father, artist, professor and poker player. The poker has been left behind for a bit.I played in a small game for the first time since before the storm last week with some inexperienced players and did well. I hope to have things better within a year or two and be sharing events at the table again. Until then, I will mostly just drop by occasionally in threads, and post a bit when I have time and something worthwhile to add.

Nice job, though. 2 grand is nothing to scoff at.

I hate poker.

Second break. I'm at 9K, average is 13K, 685 people left, 220 spots pay.

The guys to my left and right have been great so far. The guy to my right has folded his SB to me 2 or 3 times, and the guy to my left has never raised when I've completed out of the SB, and hes folded to the minimum bet on the flop every time. I even checked to him once when I hit top pair(trying to check raise) and he just checked and then folded when I bet on the turn...I love the passiveness.

I was nervous as hell as the cards were being turned over....Oh yeah!

Thought about coming over the top here, but I wasn't sure if he was strong enough to lay down a 10 if he had one.

Nothing big has happened 30 minutes since the break...stole a few blinds, but lost mine as well of course. Down a bit from where I was, and I'm now under the average by a few thousand. Under 270 people left though.

Damnit. This certainly doesn't help. I really wish I could get inside these people's heads who make minimum raises like this.

I need to echo some earlier sentiments giving thanks for this thread. Reading through a lot of these hand histories has helped my game enormously over the past week.

Here's hoping the good play continues for everyone :banned:

That sucks, Assani. Having your AK busted by 10-9, but I fully understand the all-in. You were shortstacked and had to make something happen.

At least tmc's doing well.

Thanks. Sorry to see you went out jw. I guess I'm having an okay day. Now I need to go deep here and make it a real good one.

Cutoff raise. I had about 40k. blinds were 2-4k. He made it 10k to go and I pushed on principle. He had about 80K so it was a signficant portion of his stack. Unfortunately, he had a hand (JJ)

Principles won't get you far in poker.Still, good showings today Tim.

tmc, just saw you bust out...good tourney man...very impressive to get so far twice in one day.
Thanks, unfortunately, all that time and I really didn't get paid. I think I netted like 2K for those two. I don't mean that to degrade 2K. Unfortunately, the hope when you play one of these things is to make a big score.

Trust me, I totally understand...I'm still pretty bummed out and on tilt about busting out today. These only come around once a month or so, and it hurts to lose. As the tourney goes on, you start to have visions of how great it'd be to hit that first place money, and then its so tough to bust out.So.....you playing in the $200K guaranteed at 10:00?? ;)

LOL. you are correct. However, I would argue that he folds most hands there. My cards didn't matter really. Probably only AK and 9s and up call. This is one of the tools I use now and then to pick up chips. It sucks when you get caught but it keeps you from being a short stack.

The money really did not start to make a meaningful difference for another 100 people or so. My goal was not to move up a few spots but to get in the top 30 or so. At 40K, with blinds at 2-4K, you need to be aggressive and build chips because the blinds keep going up. I made a move and got busted, but I don't really feel that bad about it.

Hey, I just checked and saw that you were! Nearly 2 hours in and we're both still in. Would be very impressive for you to money again. GL man.

Assani-

You might want to check out the Sunday tournament at Bodog. IIRC, their big guaranteed tourney had a pretty significant overlay and the players there are, in short, terrible.

I'm considering doing the same soon (probably with my tax return, thanks Dubya! I'll go boost a third world country's economy now!).The info I have learned from reading this thread is priceless. I think Assani has proven that he's pretty darn successful at this, and by going step by step with his key hands and showing us how to win (and sometimes lose) at this darn game has helped me a lot more than any poker book I've read.

Thoughts on this one? Anyone may feel free to respond here:

I have the button on this hand. Two hands previous, I was short-stacked in the BB with QQ. KHV open-raised into me for 3x, I went all in and beat his 8s5s to double up. I took note that even though he got his hand caught in the cookie jar, his crying call with suited junk getting 3:1 was likely correct.

Approximately 130 people left in the tourney, 63 money. This is a $10+1 MTT.

Folding is out of the question with 9's against a fairly loose player. I also didn't see much use in a re-raise for less than all of my chips, as I'd be committed to the pot at that point. So it came down to flat calling or pushing. Also of note is the BB was sitting out in this hand.

Average stack here is 9K. Although his position is worse than it was when he tried to steal with 85s, I felt like pushing was +EV here. Given his looseness and his decent stack size, I could put him on a pretty wide range of hands: AA-22, AK-A8, KQ-KT, maybe even suited connectors, although unlikely considering that I'd just stung him for playing junk. Going all in would leave him with roughly 2:1 pot odds to call, which would be difficult to get away from.

I didn't want to call, have overcards come and face a bet and get knocked back down to 5K. I was afraid to see overcards at all, and I felt like there wasn't much more maneuvering I could do post-flop.

LOL. I probably got knocked out 5 minutes after you posted this. I didn't make it to the second break (I think I went out about a hand before it). Saw you snuck into the money. I keep telling myself, just keep moneying and sooner or later you will go on a rush at that point. I don't play a lot of MTTs any more so I haven't kept good stats. But I'm curious if you do - do you know what % of the time you cash, what % of cashes make it to the final table, and anything else you track?

I was just talking to Tim (tmc) about this. What kind of overlay do they have there nowadays? Over the summer they were good for donating 15k or more.

Update?BTW, I would have folded. I don't have much luck with 9's since they always seem to be cracked by someone hitting a higher pair. You'd be risking a significant percentage of your stack on a mid-high pocket pair. No thanks.

(Note: I play more by feel than mathematics, so not sure about "pot odds" or anything like that)

Assani got me inspired last night. Played in 3 Rebuy MTTs on Noble. 2nd out of 210, 6th out of 180, 18th out of 175.

Really, this thread is awesome.

Quick question for Assani:

Any plans on participating in the WSOP satellites here? Suprised I havn't seen your name listed among the previous participants, but I understand if you want to make it fair for everyone else. ;)

So I should fold the 6th best hand in the game to a loose player? You sure?

I believe he said he would buy right into the $1400 final, but I could be wrong
