AT40 - This Week In 1975 (1 Viewer)

38. "Promised Land" - Elvis

Elvis was so ####ed up at this point in his life, it's a wonder he could spit this out.

37. "You're No Good" - Linda Ronstadt

Linda had a jack-hammer voice. It worked great on this record, though not so much when she tried to sing Smokey Robinson songs

35. "Free Bird" - Lynyrd Skynyrd

This is a great record. RVZ was a fine R&R singer and this band kicked ###

34. "I Belong To You" - Love Unlimited

Doo *** meets Disco. Hate the game, not the players. This woman could sing, boys & girls.

33. "Ruby Baby" - Billy Crash Craddock

Nashville went full-on reactionary in the 70s, but they kept covering R&B songs to do so.

32. "Best Of My Love" - Eagles

I bust on the Eagles every chance I get, but this ballad is really well done

Happy New Year!

40. "Struttin'" - Billy Preston
Billy had such a joyous groove goin on for a couple o yrs there. Was so happy to see him out front, too, after all that great service to others, just like Leon

36. "Do It Til You're Satisfied" - BT Express

whatever it is
Should prolly keep this to myself, but me & a gal pal would sing this during our doggy time. I'd start with the "do it", she'd come back with the "whatever it is" then i'd start dirty talk to the patter part of DITYS and she'd hype me back. Reeeedickalous, but she was a reedickalous chick. Had a Great Dane & a Corgy who both liked to watch and drool and she was always throwing #### at me because she would set witch's spells all over the house and i was always bout to disrupt em. She was a nurse who wanted to nab a rich doctor so she set spells on em. She caught one, but had to move to Garden City, Kansas (if it aint hell, you can see it from there) with him. But she was one of the few women who liked morning sex best, so i hung out a while.

31. "I Can Help" - Billy Swan

I can usually find something in any record to like, but I hate this ####### song all the way through. This is up there with "Sugar Shack", "Seasons In The Sun", and "We Built This City" on my most-hated list

33. "Ruby Baby" - Billy Crash Craddock

Nashville went full-on reactionary in the 70s, but they kept covering R&B songs to do so.
i remember being mad @ this cuz the 2nd song i ever wrote (i was like 12-13) was called Ruby Baby and i didnt know another existed. Was a very sweet song, had one of the best lines i ever wrote:

Ruby, Baaaaybeeee (falsetto doo-***)

Ruby, Baby

She smiled at me

Now I can see

No one but Ruby Baby

for years i substituted other girls names in to make em. already GOT my royalties, #####!

"Seasons In The Sun" stands out from that lot ... the cheez factor nudges it into 'so bad it's good' status - epic slice of '70s schmaltz

29. "I Feel A Song In My Heart" - Gladys Knight & The Pips

A minor hit for them, but still a perfect pop record.

27. "Get Dancin'" - Disco Tex and The Sex-O-Lettes

Better "dancing" record than the Guess Who disc above, which was horrible

23. "Some Kind Of Wonderful" - Grand Funk

I have no defense for this band or this record, but I will fight you to the death for my right to love their entire discography. I'm Shinin' On

22. "Pick Up The Pieces" - AWB

See: my comment on #23

This was a GREAT band. Those Scotty singers had soul, boys & girls

20. "Fire" - Ohio Players

Metallica & Nirvana sound like 3rd-graders compared to this riff. The Players backed it up with "Fopp", if you need more evidence.

18. "Never Can Say Goodbye" - Gloria Gaynor

I like Michael Jackson's version better, but this is a fine record. She'd do ok with a song down the road, too

16. "Dark Horse" - George Harrison

I think George had run out of gas here. He picked it back up again later on, but this one is just "meh"

i remember first hearing this on his "33 1/3" album (circa '76) ... can't for the life of me recall ever hearing it on the radio at that (early '75) time - and I kinda always dug this one, especially his guitar work

This song is the first time I heard Ronstadt's voice.

Underrated part of that History Of The Eagles documentary is all the Troubadour footage of artists like Ronstadt and Carole King.

15. "Morning Side Of The Mountain" - Donnie & Marie Osmond

I'm sorry. I relish (hah!) cheese (double-hah!), but this one don't do it for me

14. "Bungle In The Jungle" - Jethro Tull

Christ, I'd almost rather listen to Donnie & Marie than this. It's ok, I guess, but there's no "there" there. I've whiplashed back from 70s prog

32. "Best Of My Love" - Eagles

It's a country song.  Seems like they were going for a Joni thing but Leadon's guitar gives away the song's true genre.

Decent version by Sarah Evans floating around with Joe Walsh on lead guitar.

13. "One Man Woman/One Woman Man" - Paul Anka/Odia Coates

Appears we're (or at least, me) are locked in schlock. #### it - let's roll
