Attention FFA Musicians - Bandhub (1 Viewer)

Wow!!!!  Just what I needed this morning!   :)   Fascinating site, I'd never heard of it either, and I'm highly intrigued about how to contribute and the logistics of collaborations.  Plus I just found terrific covers of Yes and Maroon 5 with 10 seconds of searching.  Awesome!  Thanks, bb!

Not too much in the way of momentum on this.  But let's keep a running list of musicians that have indicated an interest in an on-line collaboration just for gits and shiggles.  If we can generate enough interest and round out a group, we can make a run at doing something:

Guitar

Aerial Assault

Willie Neslon

Bass

Aerial Assault

Bonzai

Drums/Percussion

bananafish

El Floppo

tommyboy

Piano/Keys

Vocals

bigbottom (+rhythm guitar)

AcerFC

DaughterPack

Willie Nelson

Ukulele

Bonzai

Oh, not quite picking it up, I've been playing bass for 30 years.  You're right, though - you're remembering a post where I asked about joining a band as a bass player, because I have been playing guitar for 35 years :) and am more used to collaborating as a guitarist.     (I also had no idea how to just pick up and join a band although you were quite correct that it isn't very difficult, particularly in Los Angeles!)  I can also play keyboards but there will be someone better than me for that role for sure.  I'm qualified for backing vocals.

The bandhub model is fascinating.  I'm still not entirely clear on how the people get together; some of the covers I listened to (I didn't check out any original music) were apparently the product of sort of a Wikipedia-type situation with people pitching in with parts that they knew/could play in an open-source-type environment, while other collaborations seemed to have been planned in advance.

That's right!  I remember now. So did you end up joining a band?  Would love to hear how that worked out. I'll list you under both guitar and bass.

I did!  It isn't a live performance-type collaboration, though, so I'm still on the prowl for something like that, like what you do.  We get together a few times a year at home studios/garages/whatever and record, and the project, which is simply a labor of love, has yielded some really interesting musical results.  I came in hoping for something like Maroon 5 (first two or three albums rather than the more recent stuff) and it turned into more of a psychedelic jazz-influenced thing with three-part vocals.  It's interesting.  Schedules prevent any forays into live shows, though, so I think the keyboardist and I would have to do a side project for that, and find a lead vocalist.

Very cool. Do you ever record any of your practice sessions?  I'd love to give it a listen.

I love just jamming with the guys. But as you can tell from the photo above, live performances are pretty damn exhilarating. You should definitely keep after it. (But wouldn't you need a drummer too?)

Thanks for that.  We do record them; I'm not quite satisfied with the production quality but that's just me being :nerd: and maybe I'll share at some point.  Appreciate it.  :)

Great pic above!  And yeah, other than for friends and family (and these jammers I mentioned) I have not played for a live audience since law school.  I miss it a lot.  We would indeed need a drummer, and a guitarist or two as well for the sort of layered music I like to play; I only mentioned lead vocals because if the keys guy and I decided to play live, lead vocals would be our most crying need.  We can both sing but he is totally averse to lead and I would need a LOT of practice/confidence/medication before singing lead parts for a live audience.
