Auction draft: Gates as your "top WR?" (1 Viewer)

For a TE required lg obviously - he's going for about what, 12-14%? And on avg puts up stats in about the 1000/10 range? Last year he was barely behind guys like Boldin, Colston, Burress. In a TE req league he can offer nice seperation from other TEs and odds are you can find a comparable 2d tier/sleeper WR either in the draft or early in FA. But odds of a great sleeper TE are pretty slim. ie what would you rather have: Gates and (sleeper WR) or somebody like Cotchery and (sleeper TE)? I do this and the plus is I could forget those top $20ish WRs and hopefully at least one of the cheap sleepers will rise above.

That's kind of generally what I'm wondering about, anyway. Smart/dumb/coin flip?

When you put it that way it's not really much of a choice at all. If you think Gates is gonna go for over 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns at tight end then I have to get him. It's that simple. Pretty much if a wide receiver isn't Marvin Harrison or Terrell Owens maybe Steve Smith they're all not worth reaching for.
