Auction drafts: diff in smaller leagues vs bigger ones (1 Viewer)

From what I recall, in larger leagues, the top players tend to cost more, while "lesser" players are cheaper, so I assume it would be the opposite in a smaller one-? Anyone confirm/deny? eg I had planned to go pretty aggressively after one of the top 3 RBs, but with our league down to 8 this year, it may be more logical to lay back and stock up on 2d tier talent.....

One of the leagues I play in is an eight team auction league and I have to tell you that every team usually ends up being stocked unless you have some poor owners. In my experience having a team full of lower top 10-15 talent is not going to win it for you. You have to have at least 2 players that are top 3 and you really need 3 guys like that. So with that being the case you need to get some of the high price guys unless you really believe some of those second tier guys are going to crack the top 3. You can usually get at least 1 high priced player early (high priced I mean a running back for 30-35% of your cap) and still be a major player in the 2nd tier guy market if your patient. Remember there are only 8 teams so you will be able to get players so dont over spend after that.

I played in an 8-team auction league last year and our champion did exactly as you say. He laid off all the top tier backs and loaded up with #2's. Of course, he drafted LJ and that solidified his march to the title. :goodposting:

Yeah but can't count on that kinda lightning striking again....

Sounds like a split vote so far.
