My group was pretty meh about the lineup, but they are also younger than I am. DM and The Cure will be solid, they can do what Weezer did last year and just play the hits. I think the second tier is about as solid if not better than last year. And as always there will be bands near the bottom that surprise by the time October gets here.

I'm all paid up for tickets and a place to stay. Ready for it to get here. Best weekend of the year.

I'm most excited for Divine Fits (makes up for missing them this Saturday). :pickle:

Plus Wilco, The National, Okkervil River, Neko Case, and Phoenix.

The Cure usually plays mostly hits at festivals. They keep an incredible number of songs - 60 or so - in their live repertoire.

...and they are SENSATIONAL in concert.
I know! I've seen them 35 times. Robert Smith is 54 and pretty huge now though. But his voice has been good in the shows so far this year.

Do we strap Uni to a board and pry his eyes (ears?) open Clockwork Orange style for the Phoenix show??

Word on the street is that little buddy is coming around on Phoenix after enjoying their streaming Coachella set recently.

Shuggie Otis will make me have to buy a 3 day pass (no single day tix this year) if he doesn't play a show elsewhere in Austin during that 10 day span...

wow, no single day tickets?

used to do the 3 day thing but recently been enjoying Friday or Saturday at ACL and then buying one off tickets to the ACL after party concerts.

BTW, forgot ACL takes place on two weekends this year. Is that lineup for both weekends? I have my doubts.

Yeah that Coachella performance was awesome. And I actually think their latest album isn't terribly awful. :oldunsure:Maybe it's the younger thing that Bogart mentioned but this lineup doesn't do a whole lot for me. I kinda figured going to a dual weekend format that they'd have even more capital to book something abnormally good, but Depeche Mode and The Cure are worse than previous single weekend year headliners IMO. Muse at ACL will be a blast though. I think if they had gone with a band like Arcade Fire to replace one of the 80's British bands at the headlining spot I would feel more obligated to go. /20YOSomethingGuy'sOpinion

Why do you have your doubts? Coachella has done it successfully for two years now. Most bands play a few gigs in surrounding areas during the week between.

I think the doubts are that the lineups are the same for two weekends rather than, like Jazzfest, just being one lineup spread out over two weeks. I'm not aware of any other festivals like Coachella, where the same lineup plays back to back weekends.

As far as I'm aware ACL is mimicking Coachella's format and bringing them all back. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise. Would be a little ####ed up to release a lineup and sell tickets only to tell people later that those particular bands won't be there.

Well, that's what they're doing.

Cool. I didn't read the rest of the thread, was just clarifying what appeared to me to be a misunderstanding of Major's post. No big deal.

Appreciate the assurance Uni. I've been to these two weekend concerts before (not Coachella) and felt duped when one headliner was only performing one weekend.

:lmao:I knew that idea came from somewhere. All the drinking at DerbyHole killed so many brain cells that I thought it was an original thought. :lmao:

I heard there could be a lot of girls there this year.

Looks like you had good reason to have some doubt. Some of the small local acts are split between the weekends. Weird. My Link

Posting from phone, not sure if that URL is accurate.

Weekend schedule is out.

Not crazy about DM and Muse both the late shows Friday night. Will probably catch DM open then get across the park for the whole Muse show. Passion Pit and Wilco playing at the same time also blows.

Lionel Richie closing out the entire festival?? I'll probably just leave after Phoenix, listen to Atoms for Peace on my walk out, and be first in line for a Kabobalicious.

That's great news, since I'm planning to drive back to Dallas Sunday night. I expect a mass exodus after Phoenix.

I'm pretty happy about the lack of significant conflicts. Worse one for me is the thirty minute Local Natives - Okkervil River overlap.

Wilco >>> Passion Pit

Wilco is poop.

Are you guys going the same weekend?
You're poop. I'm going second weekend.

Index Festival the following weekend is looking pretty solid too. I've always liked Andrew Bird but haven't seen him live.
I was kinda underwhelmed by their second lineup release but it's still good enough to go. I went last year when PTM played and it was awesome.

Unsure of my vacation time situation but hoping to make it to either ACL or FFFfest this fall.

TITUS ANDRONICUS!!!

Let me know what you decide on ACL. You and Chelsea can ride with us.

Don't Guster her until after dark.

Back from a great weekend in ATX. I highly advise hitting the 3rd floor/pool level of Rio (some new club). If you can't get up there, I wouldn't even bother. 2nd floor is full of scrubs.

Weekend One was solid. The weather was perfect and the crowds were big, but not insane like last year. You could actually get food and booze, and use the bathroom with minimum wait.

Muse had two technical difficulties that made their show seem less than great, but I enjoyed it. Divine Fits, Silversun Pickups, QOTSA, Phoenix, Passion Pit all had great sets, but I expected those. The Black Angels, Jimmy Eat World, Twin Forks and fun. :bag: had sets that were much better than I expected. Ms Mr covered LCD Soundsystem for the best cover I heard this weekend. Grouplove and Kendrick Lamar both disappointed.

The Cure Saturday night was everything that 15 year old me wanted. They played all the hits. And in the shocker of shockers, Lionel Richie completely crushed his set. Halfway into his set, one person in our group turned and said, "He has won ACL." The crowd was large, everyone was singing, everyone was dancing, and even the crowd that came over from Atoms For Peace made it in time for Brick House, Hello and We Are The World. I would never pay to see Richie, but I was extremely glad I saw him perform.

damn, I had a free ticket but couldn't make it. Love all the great music in Houston this week as a result of ACL. Every night Major is booked with quality shows.

Same for DFW. I drove back last night late, and passed four tour buses coming up from Austin. Great shows locally all week.

I have to drive back to Dallas Sunday night and work Monday, so I won't get a chance to dance on the non-existent ceiling with Lionel.

Trying to plan a tentative schedule now. Needs to include a Franklin BBQ stop.

The band I'm most excited to see is Divine Fits, and it's really not even close.

Geez, seeing wristbands in the $100-130 range on Dallas craigslist. That's crazy, getting tempted to make a last minute trip. :oldunsure:

they blew their load the first week....I've been offered free tickets and plenty for $50-100. If you stay patient, you can go Sat/Sun for next to nothing.

Just got my wristbands for next year. Weekend 2 this time.

While this year had more than enough awesome shows, I really look for a rebound year as far as the headliners go. Hope I'm right.
