Austin Collie: Bad week or is he no longer part of Indy offense? (1 Viewer)

I didn't see the game yesterday, but I did notice that Collie didn't record a catch and only had four targets. Granted, this was only week one and the Colts are obviously going through a major transition at qb. My question is where does this leave Collie?

Will he no longer be a part of the offense (I can't see that happening) or was this simply a blip on the radar as the Colts start to live in the post Manning era? Was his injury the reason he didn't play a major role?

This. Garcon was the one on the field in all of the 2 WR sets, and it looked to me like the Colts weren't using 3 WR formations as much until the end of the game. Collie did get two targets in the end zone. I would downgrade him a little bit as the pass protection looks bad enough I could see the Colts using more formations that let them keep an extra blocker back. That on top of the offense just looking poor.

the problem isn't collie or his role in the indy offense. the problem is the indy offense.

I think it's as simple as this...Peyton Manning. A top-5 WR with him (assuming health), possibly worthless with Collins. We'll see if Indy can get decent QB play, but it's not looking good.

As Collins gets more comfortable with the Indy offense Collie's role will increase. I don't expect him to be the number 2 WR Collie projected to be with Manning in the lineup, but it's laughable to say that he won't be part of the offense. I guess it's all relative. One catch for 7 yards and a td I guess sure beats 0 catches for a big goose-egg.

Called betting on the future and moving on. Not chasing last years' stats. In a redraft you cannot get anything for Collie in most leagues.

That's the key and something I overlooked by stupidly starting him this week in a league(took too many RB lotto tickets in that league and had zero WR depth). He's a major bust if Manning doesn't return quickly. So talented too

In his 6 game stretch to begin the 2010 season in which he was on an absolute tear he was targeted an average of 9 times per game. IMO Collie is 100% dependent on Peyton being out there to be relevant fantasy wise.

If you are in a deeper league then hold onto him if the WW is thin, but in my 10 teamer I think I'll try out something new as the other guys on my bench are key backups or have more potential than Collie now has IMO.

Anyone have an opinion to talk me out of it?

I would hang on to him if you have the roster space, because if Manning comes back in 8 weeks, Collie could be huge during the fantasy playoffs.But if you need the roster space now, I can see cutting him if you can pick up a decent options off the WW....if you do that, keep your eyes open as to Manning's return if it happens this year, and try to get Collie back off the WW a week or so before Manning's return.

Collie was on the field for 33 of 57 offensive snaps (58%), and 23 of 35 passing snaps (66%) vs Houston.Last year when healthy he was on the field for over 90% of the snaps 4 games (including one vs Houston), 70% for one and less than 60% for two.So, while his number of snaps dropped in the last game from his average, the amount of work he got was not an outlier by last years standards, and he was on the field for 2/3 of the teams passing downs. I don't think an increased proclivity towards 2WR sets held him back last game.

I think those numbers are worrisome given the context. His percentage of snaps falls on the low end of where it did last year. But this was a game where the Colts trailed from the start and where they needed to pass to get back in the game. A game where I would expect his snap percentage to be on the high end. The same thing happened in last year's week 1 game between Houston and Indy when the Colts went down by 13. That is the game you're saying Collie was on the field for over 90% of the snaps. Going from that to 58% is worrisome to me.I personally wouldn't cut him yet in anything but the shallowest of leagues, but I would downgrade him until we see something that indicates the Colts are going to use him more. I think the Colts may get Dallas Clark more involved this week as the Ravens had success against the Steelers by clearing out the middle of the field and letting their tight ends work there. Maybe they will use Collie in that role too from the slot, or maybe they'll use him to clear out the defenders.

Collie has three strikes against him.

1 - Add Collins, subtract Manning

2 - More two wr sets

3 - Health always a question, one hard hit on the dome and he might be finished for good

I got him late in a 10-teamer & he's the first guy I'll be dropping. If there was anything decent available, I'd have done it already. I don't see Collie as any better than a bye week filler w/o Manning.

I'm giving him one more week to see if they can rebuild this team into some semblance of a passable offense. I will not be starting him and another doughnut or close and he'll be on my ww.
