Babin - Boulware Trade (1 Viewer)

Not really...this team still has a lousy pass rush and a bad secondary. Blitzing can be a killer because the only starting caliber DB is Dunta Robinson. The LBs aren't bad but the DL and DBs make for a lethal combination.

Boulware should help the team out overall but is it enough?
I would've traded Boulware for a case of Slim Jims. He's a liability, personally responsible for the Xmas eve loss vs San Diego. His bad angles and tackling were responsible for CTaylor's 95 yard Td and Parker's 75 yard SB record TD run. I am assuming his absence opens the door for undrafted Wallace (can't remember first name) to make the team. One of the more impressive first year players in the Seahawks' preseason.

Williams and Okoye teamed up (is he doing well enough to break into the starting lineup already?) should help on the line and now getting someone in the backfield I think may have them at least moving in the right direction.Any expected FA's as teams start to make cuts throughout today that Houston should be focusing on?

Boulware has been garbage. I agree with the above Slim Jims comment.

Boulware had regressed in every area over the past two seasons -- tackling and coverage in particular. It's possible that the light will go on for him with a new team and his competition is the worst in the league, but this isn't a big upgrade by any stretch.

I never see Williams or Okoye do anything. Everytime Mario gets a sack (which ain't often) it's because someone kicked the ball around in the backfield or nobody blocked him. You can see the athletic ability but he looks like he has no instincts. All I've seen Okoye do so far is stand there and get blocked. I really hate to say that but that's what it looks like. Supposedly they're both hard workers so they've got that going for them. Neither one looks like a force or a difference-maker right now though. They've got a lot to do before they look like 2 guys who just destroy offenses. Most of the time you've just got to look hard to notice them...

I wasn't expecting much from Okoye this year when he was drafted but I thought maybe he has done well enough for them to tinker with the line and getting him into a starting position early. Doesn't sound like that is the case though.

No one mention this yet: Per KFFL:

Okoye registered a sack in preseason 3. Dont know if they gave it to him in the stats but he got one. I remember the announcer kept saying E. Cochran but it was Okoye. As for as the trade:I like the move Boulware could really be a steal for us. We need some guys in here with some football pedigree and I'm sure he can be an upgrade over what we have now. Since the move from OLB to DE Babin has looked as though his body is not accepting the weight gain. And even when he was trim he was always a step slow to the QB. But Babin does have a very BIG motor but I just dont think he's tough enough.

The defensive backfield is hurting for sure - which is why I suspect they made the trade, this is just one more. Anyone believe in omens?

Not liking a serious injury, but Harrison was probably a Special teamer only this year. He can sort of 'redshirt' if he does wind up on the injured reserve.

Okoye will be starting from Day 1. Travis Johnson & Anthony Maddox are battling for the remaining DT spot.Williams & Okoye played great in game 3 against Dallas, but were no-shows in games 1 & 2. Maybe they improve once the regular season starts, but for now I would expect a lot of inconsistent play. More than anything, Okoye was drafted for his potential (youngest player drafted since the league merger in 1967!) so I don't expect much from him this year.

I like the trade for both teams. Boulware was going to get cut by Seattle anyways so at least they gain Babin, a young, decent pass rusher with talent (1st round pick). And Houston gets Boulware, a player with a lot of talent but couldnt find a spot in Seattle. With Houston's injuries at safety, he will probably start right away.

maybe boulware would do better at OLB, the position at which he was an All-American at Florida State...

the puruit angles might be more instinctive for him... he is bigger & more NFL LB-sized than some other college LB/NFL safety conversions, such as archuleta...

IMO he is too small to play LB in the NFL. He can succeed as a 3rd down LB in pass situations but he only weighs around 225(not 100% sure) and as a converted LB to Safety, you would think he would be a hard hitter, but he is more of a finess safety.
