Back Ups to make an impact in week 10 (1 Viewer)

Peyton Hillis. Of the Broncos' backs, he's the most likely to be found on your waiver wire. He showed some toughness on the 1st down run late last night. With Pittman, Hall, Torrain being done, and Young dinged up, he should see a very significant role moving forward.

Dantrell Savage. Kolby Smith is done for the year, and Johnson is suspended. The Chiefs were at a point talking about holding Johnson out even after the suspension in week 10. While it's not likely, there is that chance. Edwards has said he doesn't want to give Charles a full load, so Savage could touch the ball 10-12 times on Sunday.

Kevin Jones--pure speculation on my part--I'm guessing the Bears will do all they can to keep the ball out of Rex Grossman's hands which means an even bigger commitment to the running game. Forte is already on pace for nearly 400 touches, so if they do increase the number of runs called, I'm expecting Jones to become more involved.

Brandon Jackson--Ryan Grant just hasn't looked all that great thus far. Only 3.5 Yards a carry and 1 Touchdown at the half-way point isn't what fantasy owners or the coaching staff had expected. I haven't seen him play alot myself this season, but according to rotoworld: "he isn't breaking long runs and was slow to the edge." While it's a small sample size, Jackson is averaging 5.1 Yards a carry, and was a late 2nd round pick. He's also been much more utilized in the passing game. Don't look for him to unseat Grant, but do expect him to become much more involved in the ground game.

Brad Hoover/Nick Goings--Jonathan Stewart has said his foot is in alot of pain, especially when he pushes off. The Panthers run the ball alot, 13th in the league in rushing yards. Williams and Stewart have combined for 27 carries a game, and the coaching staff hasn't seemed to want to give either back a full load. Goings is listed as the teams #3 Running back, but I've read reports that the extra touches could go to Hoover. Monitor the situation, whoever winds up with the carries could be looking at 10+.

Kenneth Darby and Samkon Gado--While Jackson has tried to talk like he could play, it was reported on ESPN that Haslett said there was no way he'd play until he was ready to play at his normal level. Pittman hasn't practiced, and is Questionable. If he does play, he'll start, but look for him to split with Darby. If he doesn't play, Darby will start and split carries with Gado.

Obviously, none of these guys are going to give you Clinton Portis numbers, but if you're in a deep league and desperate, they're worth a look.

Thoughts? Opinons? Who do you like? Who do you not like? Who do you think "In what league is he available in?!?!?!" Beat ya to it :)

How is MeMo not on this list??
The short answer: He's too obviousGoing by Yahoo! only, he's owned in 55% of leagues. I'll assume it's higher on other servers. Given how much Pitt runs, and Parker being injured last year and this year, people have to assume Moore's going to stay involved. You probably won't find him on many of your waiver wires.

Totally agree, but this thread is about backups to make an impact this week.

If Jackson could not take any carries away earlier in the year...I don't think he will be taking any now with Grant looking better. And the numbers are reflecting that as far as the carries for each are concerned.Barring injury, Jackson is the reserve who gets involved in some of the passing game...but Grant will continue to get the majority of the carries.

shohuff's head just exploded at the mention of Jackson taking over for Grant.

Damn. He beat me by a min.

;)

I think you have to put Arrington on this list. He got 10+ touches last week
At this point, I'm not sold that James has gone all the way from #1-#3. Those 11 touches more than doubled what Arrington has had on the year. So for now, I'm seeing it as a one time thing, but if he comes out and gets more touches than Edge this week, he's obviously got fantasy value down the stretch. Especially should something happen to Hightower.

Yup...I especially don't think he makes much of an impact against Minny.Though, GB actually did have a few more screen plays in there vs. TN last week...most even went for positive yards which is a first in some time.

I actually think Jackson has a chance this week. The Packers probably won't run the ball well on the Vikings and I could see Jackson catching 4-6 passes out of the backfield. If you're desperate in a PPR league for a flex RB I could see starting him this week.I posted in another thread that I think Arrington is a very sneaky play against a horrible 49ers' defense Monday night. I'm VERY tempted to pick him up and start him over Addai as my RB3 this week. Not sure I have the stones to do it but I'm seriously thinking about it.I also like Norwood a lot and Sproles has a huge chance to shine against the Chiefs. Aaron Stecker is another guy worth considering as a flex play in PPR leagues.

Good point...PPR in desperation Jackson may not be a terrible play.Especially, as I said, as they have been trying to run a few more screens lately.

I like Leon Washington at home gainst the Rams defense, worth a shot if you're desperate.
:lmao: I own KJ, B. Jackson, and Washington, I'm going to play "Neon Leon" and hope he gets enough touches by land and through the air vs the Rams.

Rolling with Leon Washington and Benjarvis Green Ellis for Portis and Barber. Just added Kenneth Darby, just in case SJAX injury is long term. I am not real thrilled with any Rams RB's other than SJAX but they do have some pretty nice matchups down the road. Does anyone know anything about Darby?

I like Buff RB Fred Jackson toward the end of the season since it looks like the Bills will make the playoffs and they will want to "save" Marshawn Lynch. Fred has looked good in spot duty when Lynch gets dinged up.

Fred is averaging 8 Carries & 3 Rec a week. Clearly not likely to replace Lynch unless something happens, but more touches as they get closer to the finish means more value for Fred. 3.9 ypc is not ideal, but it's only on 55 carries.

How about Kevin Smith. I don't care if he starts or not, he is better than Johnson. Add the fact that CPepp may start, he may get 15-20 touches this week.
