Bad beats - taking some luck out of ff (1 Viewer)

If you want a realy good system that takes the luck out of it yet still has the thrills of head to head every week then you should think about using my new dynasty league format I just created this year.

What we do is this.

We have 12 teams and we draw for divisions each year with the winner of the division staying and the other 9 teams drawn in randomly.

Then you play H2H for the division title. 13 H2H games with the winner winning the division and getting a playoff berth.

Then we also use VP system where it goes by rank of score each week from 0-11.

Then we take the 3 wild card berths from the most VP remaining from the teams not winning their division.

Then when we seed the playoff teams 1-6 we use only VP and the top 2 get a bye.

Last week was a perfect example of why I use this system.

I lost my game 223-217 as I was the #2 scoring team last week but I did get 10 VP to ease the pain of the loss and in the end the 10 VP is more important then a single win.

So on the year I stand at 1-2 but I have 24 VP. I am 2nd right now in VP and would have a 1st round bye despite my 1-2 record.

The 12 of us get together every Saturday for a Maddenthon, tackle football and combine. We've got a 8 TV setup for Madden & Saturday college games & recooperate Sunday with the NFL.

We get together Saturday at 10am, have a 12 team Madden tourney. Winner gets 10 points, 2nd gets 6, 3rd gets 4 points. Then, we play 6-on-6 football. Winners receive 10 points. Player with most TD's gets 6 additional. We've developed some T.O. diva types as a result. We've even had teammate tackle teammate at the 1 yard line.

We finish things off with 3 event combine (beer chugging, FG kicking and 40 yard dash). The latter 2 are rather fun to watch after a long day of games & drinking. Winners of each event receive 10 points.

Only the strong survive in the league. We have some turnover from year to year due to injuries, people not aging well, but we have a backlog of interested folks in the 5-8 range every year. I started the league 3 years ago & plan on playing another 6-7 as I don't plan on pissing my life away by getting married & ruining my weekends.

I can see this catching on.

Ok, so I've got 2 bad beats this year already and am pretty darn mad about it. Ever since Chris freakin Cooley knocked me out of the playoffs a few years back with 3 td's in 1 game, I've had bad bear after bad beat. Me and a buddy in our softball team FF league ran some numbers from the past few yrs and found that 71% of matchups are within 10 pts and like 52% within 5. We everyone in the league is athletic, we play in a pretty competitive softball league (except Joe -fat pitcher and Cooley owner from above). Anyway, me and my buddy were thinking of how to take some of the luck out of weekly matchups. Many around here admit how much luck is involved in FF. So while this most likely isn't revolutionary, we think we've come up with a pretty good system. Drumroll please. Ok, here we go, every weekend during the season, every one in the league heads out to the park and takes part in a punt, pass & kick competition. The winner gets 7.5 points toward that weeks fantasy matchup. I see this as beneficial in 3 aspects: takes some luck out of FF, allows every one to get out of the house during the season and drink a few brews and hang out, and brushes up our football skills which might even lead to us getting in a flag football league. Anyone done anything like this before? Any other suggestions on taking some of the luck out with some sort of actual skill? Maybe weekly madden matchups? Thanks
So instead of games being determined by "luck", they will be determined by who has the strongest leg? That makes perfect sense.

Believe it or not we already do this in one of my leagues. We do it with Madden though because we're spread out across the country. Teams are formed with out actual rosters and we play each other. The defense is compromised of our starting D/ST. Winner of the game is awarded 10 points towards that week's matchup.
How do you handle offensive lines?
:coffee:

I went from wondering what the OP was talking about to wanting to be in his league just to see "Critty" punt, pass & kick with the mask on while drunk.
