Bad or Good move? (1 Viewer)

Team A has $94.00 left for blind bidding money, Team B has $12.58 left for blind bidding money.

Team A has two kickers, one kicker who is his NFL teams back up kicker and another kicker who just had a concussion.

Team B was the number two seed in his league and had a bye week in week 13. Both his Kickers are now NFL FA kickers and are not allowed to be placed in our starting lineups as our rules state that any player that is not on an active roster cannot be put into our fantasy lineup.

There are six available Kickers in our league. Like i posted above the Team A has $94.00 and can bid more then what Team A has on all six of them. SO HE CAN BID $13.00 ON ALL SIX KICKERS.

This would leave team B without a legal kicker for his lineup.

Is this good management on Team As part or a unethical move?

Team B also had all of last week to realize that he had two kickers on his active roster that were not on an NFL roster.

I feel if Team A does not out bid Team B and he picks up one of these kickers and they go off and that loses him the game, that he did not do all he could to win this game, and there is nothing in the rules that states he cannot bid on as many kickers or players as long as he does not go over the roster limit.

Would love to hear what some other owners think?

So Team A can acquire all 6 kickers? He doesn't have to cut anyone? No roster size?

Seems kind of stupid, but hey whatever floats his boat.

:lmao:

Seems like an awfuly big risk to try to give an opponent a zero at the K position.

This is another reason why I support transaction fees.

oh no he has to cut players to make room, there is a salary cap hit for all cuts.
So he'll get one kicker and the other guy gets one.Why on earth would anyone pick up 6 kickers then have to cut 6 other players? You're telling me Team A has 6 expendable players?

Yes 53 man roster.

I think I found your problem.

53 man rosters? Are you kidding? Do you pay millions for your teams?

I heard of the UFL this year. Is this it? Who has J.P. Losman?

I have a 16 team league with 18 man rosters, we can't find a decent FA to pick up. But even we still have 12 kickers available. 53 man rosters? I don't know what you are waiting for just up it to 63 and get rid of all free agents, it would save you some trouble.

Are you ####ing kidding? If not, your draft must last longer than the actual NFL draft. Who'd you take on Day 1? ;)

I think it would hilarious if Team A spent all his blind bid money on the 6 kickers, then Team B came along and bought some free agent like Graham Gano (who signed with the Redskins this week) for $1.

Transactions are $3 in one of my leagues and $5 in the other. It's all about discouraging over-activity while growing the pot. On the flipside, trades are the same price in both leagues and I think they should be free - you want to encourage trades IMO....

Lets think people, 53man rosters is obviously not a redraft league. Perfectly normal in a dynasty league. I say whatever the rules allow, should be allowed. If team B will get a zero at the kicker position, so be it. If it means he gets a zero for his whole team...... he should have payed more attention to what is going on. As for team A- Obviously is a d-bag move on his part, and life seems to work it self out IMO, he will get f-ked in some situation and will have nothing to say after this type of move. My 2 cents.

There is nothing wrong with having 53 man rosters for a dynasty league, i have seen 100s of leagues that have the same roster numbers.

i hope this guys next move is to corner the market on kickers and stockpile all 32.
Genius, I don't see why you wouldn't do this. You play a team that is short a kicker every week, and still have 21 slots to fill out your 18 starters. Hell you would still have 3 slots for bye week guys. If this was auction league you could pay top dollar for your starters because you would have tons of extra cash as you stockpile cash picking up a dozen kickers for a buck before anyone caught on.

The owner that bid on 6 kickers was not trying to corner the market, he needed two kickers and bid $5.00 for the six remaining kickers on the market. Team B only bid on 1 kicker for $1.00. Team A ended up getting all six kickers even though he did not want all of them, he needed a kicker for his playoff game, and did nothing wrong. Team b underbid when he had $12.00 to get one kicker out of the six that were remaining on the market and was also on a bye last week and was carrying a kicker that was not on an NFL Roster for a month!!! He also had Jason Elam who was cut last Tuesday. So he had more then enough time to pick up a FA kicker Last Wed,Thur, Fri, Saturday and up until 1:00 pm on Sunday. Team A could have bid $13.00 on all six Kickers to guarantee that he did not get a kicker. He did not do that. He Bid $5.00 when he had $94.00 to work with. I feel that Team B did not pay attention and now is paying the price for it. The league that we all participate is a hardcore league, with a 63 page rulebook, and all owners are interviewed before they enter the league, so they know the commitment before they enter the league. We do not allow incomplete lineups, or starting players on a bye week or starting players that are not on an active roster. Now the owner is saying that he has been busy and had no time to pay attention and just threw a min bid of $1.00 for just ONE KICKER!! If i have $12.00 and am one game away from the conference finals, i am making sure i get a kicker and also would be bidding more then $1.00 to get one.Now there are no more kickers left, and he cannot set a lineup, does it suck that he will lose on this? YES, did he know the rules before he entered this league? Yes he is the defending champion and has been in the league for over 6 years.Team A was not being a #### head, just bid on six kickers so he could get two. Team B dropped the ball twice as far as i am concerned. Steven Hauschka was the kicker second kicker he was carrying!!! He was cut November 17th!! Now do you still feel sorry for this owner? He has had almost a month to pick up a second kicker and five days after Elam was cut to pick one up.

Assume it is an IDP league, but still 53 man rosters are a lot. But if someone can pick up 6 kickers, go for it, although in an IDP league kicker makes even less difference to the overal scoring so it isn't going to make a huge difference.

We have a 12 team, 13 player re-draft with blind bidding withe real dollars.

I screwed up and put myself in a position where my only kicker was on a bye, admittedly my own doing.

I was sitting in first place. There were several teams within a game or so of me and they ALL knew I needed a kicker. So three or four teams joined forces to out bid me on the handful of available kickers.

I saw this potential mess, so bid a few extra dollars on Matt Stover, and won him by $1.

My point is, I fealt like the owners did a strong job of trying to catch me without a kicker and they literally paid for it with their hard earned money, but I fealt it was a good strategic move none the less.

Differences:

1. Roster size

2. Unlimited blind bid dollars

3. We also have the option to aquire and drop a player in one move. Meaning, I can bid on four kickers and if I win the bid on each of them, I simply drop the ones I don't want keeping the one I do want.

So the answer to this question is "yes"? Nice move by team A.Edit: Seems that locking up all 32 kickers early would lead to an undefeated season.

53 team rosters is pretty normal for a simple league like this. In my $4000-entry double-dynasty modified WCOFF league, we draft out prospects up to 5 years in advance, so we actually carry 265-man rosters. You need that much room for developmental talent. But it's a 32-owner mirror league, so there are two Peyton Mannings, Matt Barkleys, Isaiah Weeks, Kyle Praters, etc. We also are very strict about owner participation, so some guy leaving Hauschka active would face serious fines and penalties. We also pre-screen and interview prospective owners before they join, and for obvious reasons we do credit checks and bi-annual fiscal reviews to make sure they can handle the league. All the money is held in escrow before the draft for the upcoming 5-year window, which is nice because we locked up this year's prize money at 2004's interest rates, so there's a little extra we use to fund the draft week events (food, beer, gophers, assistants, etc.). We also do random blood tests on our owners to make sure they adhere to the NFL substance abuse policy, we keep it realistic that we don't allow performance-enhancing drugs.

:(

Unfortunately it's too big to fit in an email. I think if I took out the drawings, diagrams and flow-charts it might fit, but I'm not really supposed to distribute copies outside of the league. Each year we're personally handed the rule book via bonded courier for the season 6 years to come, and we have to sign for it in presence of a notary public. It's a nicely done volume, about 600 pages, bound in official Wilson football-leather, with gold gilding on the paper. It's a beautiful piece of art that I'm proud to display on the fireplace mantle. Until that rulebook's season's over, then each of the copies has to be returned to the attorney we keep on retainer year-round who acts as our rules executive commissioner, he destroys all the copies on a webcam broadcast so that all the owners can see it and verify. The Rules Sub-Committee is currently working on the 2018 Rules, a few drafts have been floated around on our secured FTP site, but without a login and password a link won't do you any good. It's almost done, too, the galleys are due to be sent to the printer's by May. All FTP traffic is logged and posted on the league's homepage so they'd see a rogue login anyway. :pickle:

And nothing says fun like scouting high school players and roster gridlock. I can't imagine the draft day talk. "I take Bob Smith from North High School in Cunningham PA he is only a freshman 2nd string punter but I expect him to take over place kicking in his Junior year, attend college and someday make a practice squad for the NFL." "You dog he was my three thousandth one hundred and fortieth round sleeper!"To each his own I guess.

Don't worry Jbl. I know this league. But don't worry. I hired a Navy Seal Special Forces Retrieval Specialist (third grade) who happened to know the Exectuve Secretary. Through her, he found out where the League Commissioner's yacht was and one night crept onto the yacht and (via mini-camera) took photos of each page of this year's book (which for some reason only covers out through the 2015 season - go figure). For a slight fee I may find it in my heart to send you a copy. Please keep this on the QT as I don't want the League Commissioner (who also happens to be one of our two State Senator's) on my back again - how was I to know his daughter was only 17?

Man i really would love to read this rulebook, 600 pages is right up my alley, promise i will never ever hand it out, no way you can attach it to your desk top and then just send it to me an email with the attachment? Please?
Don't worry Jbl. I know this league. But don't worry. I hired a Navy Seal Special Forces Retrieval Specialist (third grade) who happened to know the Exectuve Secretary. Through her, he found out where the League Commissioner's yacht was and one night crept onto the yacht and (via mini-camera) took photos of each page of this year's book (which for some reason only covers out through the 2015 season - go figure). For a slight fee I may find it in my heart to send you a copy. Please keep this on the QT as I don't want the League Commissioner (who also happens to be one of our two State Senator's) on my back again - how was I to know his daughter was only 17?Lol, that is funny
