Bailing on Jermaine Gresham (1 Viewer)

I have Gresham as my TE2 in a start 1TE ppr. He is off to a slow start. Who else is having in there with him to see if he can turn it around? His targets aren't bad. YPC is low. Thoughts on him?

Who is your TE1?Who does CIN play in his bye week? What better TE is there for you to replace him with? Why isn't this in the AC Forum?

He is just simply getting a thread going on Gresham. I am sticking in there in at the moment but he is only a waiver wire pickup or two from biting the dust.

It is not in AC forum because I don't need advice on what to do with my roster. I am holding him. I found it interesting that Waldman thought to cut him already.I am platooning him with Jason Witten. My thinking is Gresham is still a good 2nd or 3rd option for Dalton & that td's will soon come as Hawkins, Benns, Tate or Sanu draw some coverage at wr2. It just seems a bit premature to cut bait on him now.

He's been sitting on my waiver wire unclaimed for a week and no one will touch him. The bloom has fallen off the rose. For folks who still hanging onto Gresham, Why?

So far, from week to week predictions on who is going to do what haven't held up too well...there is no way i would flat out drop Gresham as we are already into week 3 and who are you going to get that is better?

Then perhaps you should have not mentioned that he is your TE2 and just framed the question of whether people who had Gresham on their roster agreed with Waldman's suggestion to drop him

No better options right now on my 14-team ww otherwise this guy would be toast. Someone had a snide comment to make the other day when I indicated I was contemplating dropping him for whoever that Raiders TE is, and my response was if Gresham were a 3rd/4th rounder no one would think twice about dropping him. His first round pedigree is clouding judgement.

Free agents who have outscored Gresham that are on the wire (besides Gresham)• Scott Chandler• Brandon Myers• Dante Rosario• Todd Heap• Kevin Boss• Anthony McCoy• Anthony FasanoAnd TE’s outscoring Gresham that have already been scooped up off the wire:• Dennis Pitta• Heath Miller• Marcedes LewisAt some point you have to re-evaluate your thinking of Gresham's upside, otherwise its blind stubborness to hang on.

maybe I'm jaded from watching him in college, but he seems to have talent. He's a fair TE2, he'll never be elite but he's not a bad backup and I still think he has talent.

obviously evaluation is key, but the only TEs you list that I might rank higher are Pitta and Miller. He seems comparable to Miller.

Agreed. Talent isn't the problem, its the way Cincy has been using him. I didn't see the Cleveland game, but against Baltimore it seemed like they kept him in to block a fair amount of time.

I haven't owned him since last year and haven't watched as closely since I traded him but my thoughts when I owned him were that he had talent and was worth getting him for what I paid. I thought people may be overlooking his injury and that he would be better. Then He DID seem to come on and I traded him for totally different reasons. But he played well. And I remember some talk that he might be the 2nd target behind only AJ green for this team this year.

So, thinking it all over, I think he still can be a solid TE2. And that's not due to talent, its due to the situation as well as the fact that there are some DYNAMIC young TEs in this league right now that push him down a bit. But he still is good and his first two games have been against divisional opponents and IIRC, he was always used to block more in those division games. I would pick him up off the waiver wire, for sure and give him a few weeks. I would hold him if I owned him. I probably would NOT seek a trade for him, just given the number of options that likely exist.

I've had him on my roster for the past 2 years and i've finally dropped him. I'm tired of waiting for something that may never come...

Currently he has no upside compared to many other TE's. The lightbulb one day may turn on and he starts playing well, but currently it's just not there. 3 years into his NFL career and he still doesn't completely understand how to run routes? No thanks. I'd rather take my chances on another TE that has a better upside. I agree with FBG's advice here. It's prudent.

Was dropped for Myers yesterday ... I may have to scoop him up and drop Tamme or Miller.
Why do you have to "scoop him up" like dog poo on the sidewalk? Miller is almost a lock for a TD this week going up against the Raiders. Tamme is Peyton's new Dallas Clark. I don't get the reasoning here.

Sorry to all of you that cut him...he is looking petty good today. I wouldn't mind having him as TE 2.

I made a point to pay attention to him yesterday. As a follow-up, I think the bolded part IS the issue here. He looks the same to me as he did when I owned him; just was not being held in to block as much. I think he's fine.

word on cincy blogs is he's a soft player. i'm guessing he had a good game b/c the skins just lost a great lb and lineman. don't know if that was a break through game, but he's at least a good match up play te.

How many TE's can make this play?http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/0ap2000000080347/QB-Dalton-to-TE-Gresham-55-yd-pass-TDGraham, I know.Gronkowski, yes.Hyperbole?Or is there more of this to come? I get that Cincy may not have this as part of their playbook, but it sure looks like Gresham has this in his skill set and it's been underutilized.
He needs to run better routes. He also needs to run like he doesn't have a refrigerator on his back (the stiff arms were awesome but the last 2 shouldn't have happened).-QG

I kind of do not see why you would be giving up on him at this point. The targets have been steady from week 1 on 8,5,7,5,5,8 respectively. He is the 2nd in targets for the Bengals who are a passing team. The catch percentage could be a lot better in those high target games but he is still catching 61% of his targets. He is currently on pace for 66 catches EOY which would be an improvement from the 56 he had last season.

Bear in mind that he weighs about 260 pounds. I have him a few leagues and he's been a solid, reliable player. I'd like to see him take the next step, but even if he doesn't, he's already a quality option.

Meh, that was poor tackling and horrible angles.

I have Witten and him, he's outscoring Witten.Crazy to talk of dropping him.
You're counting he first couple of games where Witten could have suffered another episode of internal bleeding if hit incorrectly? Witten has finally healed up and caught on over the past two games. If that kind of production is any indication of what you're going to be getting for the remainder, Witten will outclass Gresham in standard, .5PPR and 1PPR for the rest of the season.I still really like Gresham's 2012 prospects, but he's no Witten.

Gronkowski, yes.

Hyperbole?

:goodposting: I only saw it once on Red Zone but I felt compelled to comment on just how slow he looked in the game thread. I thought that was going to basically be a walk in TD, but he almost got caught. I meant to have a look at that again and geez it is disturbing.#43 gets slowed up while Gresham is off to the races and still and make up about an 8 yard difference in about 30 yards. I mean, I am positive there are offensive linemen that run faster.

As for the original statement from saintsinthedome, I'm not so sure what is special about that play. I'm pretty sure there are plenty backup TEs who would've scored there.

Ok, I guess that's why I was asking for opinions one way or the other. My thought was you just don't see a TE split a defensive backfield like that often. Thanks.I looked it up. 3rd longest pass (scoring or non) to a TE this year, Scheffler and Cook had longer. Gresham also has 4th most YAC for TE this year, after Celek, Daniels and Gonz.

Last 3 weeks in a 0.5 PPR, Gresham is right at 6th last 3 weeks, below Gronk and above Rudolph. Good offense to be in too.

Ya, can't believe how slowly this guy moves these days. He's got to remain a steady threat in the passing game to stay on the field because his blocking is horrific. The good news is, when you're this bad at blocking there is no threat of him being held into block going forward since it wouldn't happen anyway. He is hard to bring down though and he's probably the #2 receiving option on the team.

Yes.WItten is a stud. I wanted to see production from the young talent and right now they are like 1 point away from each other in my FF league. It's progress.Yep, Witten will probably do better the rest of the year. Still though, Gresham is turning potential into production which is great. Gresham is one of the more talented TEs, he's just gotta figure out the NFL game and "grow."
