Baltimore: The Next Ferguson? (1 Viewer)

FoxNews - Another confirmation from Police that the Post story is accurate. Cop is telling stories of seeing prisoners intentionally hurting themselves in other instances. Calls it a fairly common occurrence. HFS!
op being interviewed by Hannity, asked about Obama commenting on the case yesterday:"It's disgusting, despicable, and a kick in the face of all law enforcement before the facts of the case are even known."
Great for cops to speak out before facts are known, disgusting when Obama does it

The Police are confirming a story that exonerates the Police? ZOMG!!Any update on that Police press release that all Baltimore gangs are teaming up to attack police?
Yeah, I get it. You don't believe a word the police say, and you never will.
Seriously, have you heard the update to the press release issued during Freddie Grey's funeral that gangs were allying to target cops? Because the update is that the press release had zero credibility and the supposed threat no longer exists.

Uh, there are also extensive reports of non-buckled in rides where the prisoner is given a "rough ride" by the cops because they're irritated with the suspect. Confirmation from the police means nothing, just like rumors in the hood about people disappearing mean nothing.
A rough ride would have been felt by the other prisoner in the van, no?

Wait a minute. Are you suggesting that the Police lied about that intell? And your evidence is that the threat never materialized? Holy cow.

I can see being anti police but are you pro gang?

Yes. But if he doesn't want to spend the next decade behind bars he will, as the liberals would say get his mind right.:tinfoil:

My "evidence" is the press conference held by the President of the Baltimore City Council.

Along with the fact it was an absurd claim on its face and that predictably no such threat has materialized

Running with this is just a disgusting kick in the face until all the facts are known (paraphrasing Hannity)

That was never addressed, and he may have been buckled in. He was in a different part of the van. Also, one would have to wonder whether he was promised something or threatened with full prosecution for his crime unless he leaked this "information."

I'm going with a low threshold of belief for all of the parties involved right now. The police, the government, the protestors, the rioters and looters, commentators both left and right, and the victim are all suspect to me. This is so obviously political that trusting any entity about any news coming out seems like a fool's errand.

eta* sorry, high threshold. I don't believe any of 'em.

If there weren't video, the South Carolina police would be telling us Walter Scott shot himself in the back
Oh please. I've heard that ridiculous argument in here before and there is no evidence to support that. In fact, there is evidence to support the contrary. SLED, the unaffiliated unit in SC charged with investigating police killings, reported that they had concerns about this being an unjustified killing while they were investigating at the scene.

I come from the right, but I don't think I've ever found Hannity to be anything but the most odious of vituperative buffoons. I don't take Hannity with a grain of salt, I generally filter him through a Costco-sized bag of ice melt.

this almost seems like the police making a last ditch effort to save their asses. "this prisoner, who didnt see what was going on, says he thinks freddie severed his own spine in 7 places."
So the cops are now orchestrating a sophisticated cover-up by somehow cajoling a prisoner in the van to give a false account?

Right, but a shackled Freddie Grey severed his own spine.

I don't like Hannity but I've been entertained by him passing on his Qs to Leland & Geraldo etc. Sometimes straight up trolling

The more I read about this the less it looks like police brutality.
Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC had Jayne Miller from the Baltimore NBC affiliate on his show and according to the time line of events that they have (and are standing by) Freddie Gray was already unresponsive at the time the last prisoner/witness was loaded in the van - and that last prisoner was only in the van for about 5 minutes.

I have no idea how it happened. I said earlier in this thread that I thought he looked injured when they were putting him in the van. He could have been taken down hard. He could have fallen the wrong way. He could have then aggravated that injury by slamming himself around the van. The only "evidence" I have seen so far is the video and this report in the Post tonight, which I view to be as credible as it gets. This is the Washington Post - possibly the most respected newspaper in the country.

Interesting. GPS should be able to connect some of the dots

To be fair to Fox News, it's a Post story...
You do know this is the Washington Post we are talking about and not the New York Post. You know, Woodward and Bernstein and all that.

They are just reporting what this other prisoner said...based on the other facts we know, You have to really question his version....again, let's wait for all of the facts to come in...

Jayne Miller was going by the footage NBC had reviewed from the extensive network of surveillance cameras the city of Baltimore has.

Post of the Day.

I will be fascinated to learn how a shackled man crushed his own voice box.

In the meantime it looks like another day of orderly protests and no riots in Baltimore. I know that must be terribly disappointing to some of this thread's most frequent posters. Hang in there. Maybe tomorrow!

the media loves a good riot

Fox news now putting credibility in the testimony of someone under arrest.... have they done this since Oliver North?
Again, it's a Washington Post story...
Let them go. They are on a roll.
Fox News and Hannity to be fair, is running with this story as an exoneration of the officers in this situation. The reported testimony of a suspect in custody who based this on what he HEARD not even observed, but this is what they are running with. So having not read the Post piece, I can't speak to their tune but I'd be curious to know

I read excerpts of it. Just because it is in the Post doesn't mean it is true. You want to accept it as gospel, fine, but I don't.

I don't think most people here have a morbid fascination with violence. I think a lot of us are fascinated by the (possibly errant) perception that Baltimore doesn't seem to have a competent institution or official in the whole lot of institutions or officials that they have. That'll provoke a thread and opinions when a city starts burning.

There's a metal bar in the van. It's actually very easy to envision him crushing his own voice box if indeed he was "kicking his own ###" as is being alleged. On your second point, I have been very impressed with how Baltimore community leaders have handled the protests. It's a great aspect of the story I wish they'd focus more on. I loved seeing Elijah Cummings walking around with the bullhorn telling everyone to go home.

Mr. Clark has it right though, doesn't he? A good investigation is like a puzzle. And as I know from visiting my Dad in the nursing home, puzzles take time to assemble.

How does the post article dispute this?

I don't distrust the post's article but I don't really think it says anything other than that Gray was banging around for six blocks.

Just as an FYI, one of the cops involved in transport came out 6 days ago saying he thought any injuries occurred before Grey went in the van. So that contradicts what Passenger 2 is now saying. Everyone involved is obviously going to say whatever advances their own agenda
