banana split (1 Viewer)

Banana, chocolate sauce and ice cream is a classic combo.  I'm not a big fan of combining chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream but that's the traditional recipe.

One of the greatest theme songs of all time...

One banana two banana three banana four
all bananas make a split so do many more
over hill and highway the banana buggies go
come along to bring you the banana splits show

Not my thing.

I'd much rather just have vanilla ice cream and whipped cream with the banana, with maybe some caramel sauce instead of the hot fudge.  I don't like mixing strawberry and chocolate ice creams* or even chocolate ice cream with banana.  And a lot of places add pineapple, too, which is even worse.

* This is also why neopolitan ice cream, annoying as it is, should at least put vanilla in the middle.  Vanilla goes okay with either of the other two flavors, IMO, but the chocolate and strawberry shouldn't touch.

The Banana Split was created by David Strickler of Latrobe, PA in 1904.  He probably doesn't get enough credit as one of the geniuses of the Age of Invention.

Ice cream sundaes had been introduced a couple of decades earlier and bananas had recently become much more available due to improvements in transport from Central America.

No, I wasn't there.

I love ice cream in general. Pretty sure it's a genetic thing I inherited from my dad. And there is something about a great banana split that just can't be topped. As a kid it was kind of the "holy grail" of ice cream treats but one that was rarely allowed to be enjoyed.

About once a summer I will still indulge in one of these beautiful works of art. But I'm not getting one from just any ice cream place - not wasting the experience on some chain DQ store or anything like that. It's something to be savored from one of a few quality ice cream stops with the family.

was just coming in here to post this   didja have the whole comp backinaday?  Drew ❤️

amazing stuff all around, one of the best releases of the era.
I own that collection - love it. Great version of Scooby-Doo by Matthew Sweet. Didn't know that Richard Lloyd of Television also played on the tune.
