First post here, and it's not directly related to fantasy football. I've been a long time reader, Audible listener, etc., so I know this is the place to come to get some honest feedback from hard core football fans. If you guys would do me a huge favor and read through, I'd really appreciate it.
Here goes. Last year my company was approached by someone who had an idea for a new kind of fantasy sports game. He wanted to let you trade shares in teams like in a stock market. This has been tried a few times before with players or with teams, but it never really worked. Together, we made something that we tried out last year with a very limited, private trial. It worked alright, but there were clearly some kinks hammer out. This year, we're opening it up to everyone with a few tweaks. If you are interested, you can go to http://bandwagonsports.com to sign up.
We have big plans for additional features like custom leagues, more sports, permanent user profiles, and other general improvements, but we need your help to test the concept. I'm going to describe the game generally here. Let me know if you have any questions. I'd love to here what you all think.
When you sign up for Bandwagon, you get $10,000 in fake money to buy and sell teams. There's no charge to sign up. At the end of the year, the winner gets a $75 gift card to NFL Shop. There are also prizes for second, third, and the top 25. Each team will go up for sale on Friday (tomorrow), September 2 at 3 PM Eastern. The initial price is set using the over under for wins this year in Vegas. Each regular season win is worth $10. Post-season victories, division wins, and a handful of other special events pay out extra. There are also performance bonuses for individual games for team accomplishments like holding an opponent to 3 or fewer points. You can see the whole set of rules at http://www.bandwagonsports.com/rules but that's pretty much it. Once the season starts, you can list your teams for sale and buy teams from other players just like a stock market. The idea is to capitalize on teams that are undervalued.
We've put a ton of time and effort into this site, so we would love to see it filled with people. Having played it last year, the game is a lot of fun. For those of you in on RedZone, it adds another dimension to the crazy end at 4 & 7 to all those games each Sunday. Please let me know what you think in this thread. If you're already sold, you can sign up right now at http://www.bandwagonsports.com/signup.
P.S. If this doesn't make sense for The Shark Pool, I totally understand. Like I said at the beginning though, I know this community rocks so I really want to know what you all think.
