No one assumed they were knockoffs because no one noticed the stand. I'm not much of an art snob, but I'm enough of one that I would have cleared the stand out had I been there.

I'm still kicking myself for not buying a Sam yeates original for $300 a decade ago before he started getting features in the Thomas Kincaid galleries.
Why would you have thought they were originals as opposed to knock-offs?
I don't care what they were, they look cool and for $60 are really affordable art. If I saw them, I would have at least paused. Of course the piece that I probably liked the best was the $60 sign or the keep it real monkey
Or the one saying "this is not a photo op"
I like that one, but wouldn't make as much sense on my walls
Stand next to it naked.

That's what the $60 one is for

I don't know if I would have known they were real. Probably not. But I would have thought "someone is ripping off a famous artist by copying him and Having this old guy sell it." I probably would have asked - "are these originals?" Considering there were no two alike in the booth i would have stood there for a while contemplating it.

I'm not an art snob that I know of but there are a few modern artists (like banksy) that I would recognize I think.
No chance I would have thought they were real. In fact, I would have been drawn in because of how cool they were. If I had seen the "Banksy" signature, I probably would have assumed they were fake and would have been really iffy if i would go through with the purchase

Interesting. I would have asked. It's one thing to buy a dead artist work on the street. It's clearly fake. But signed banksy when he doesn't have a lot of work on white canvas like this ? If it's fake then that is a really really bold thing to try and sell on the street.

Isn't New York a haven for knockoffs of basically everything?

Now would be a good time to make some money with some knockoffs of his stuff in N.Y. I have some old Christmas stensils....

The best Banksys are the ones you can spit and pee on.

That one immediately got me. I also was thinking I would have tried to buy the "Spray Art: $60" one, just as a joke.

Note: I never, ever would have known that they were worth money, but those two things, plus the "Fragile" print, caught my eye. I don't think I would have paid sixty bucks for any of them, though. Not enough of an art snob, I guess.

From the event’s official brochure:

Are you looking for an alternative to the soulless sugar-coated banality of the average family day out? Or just somewhere cheaper. Then this is the place for you—a chaotic new world where you can escape from mindless escapism. Instead of a burger stall, we have a museum. In place of a gift shop we have a library, well, we have a gift shop as well.

Bring the whole family to come and enjoy the latest addition to our chronic leisure surplus—a bemusement park. A theme park who’s big theme is: theme parks should have bigger themes…

This event contains adult themes, distressing imagery, extended use of strobe lighting, smoke effects and swearing. The following items are strictly prohibited: knives, spraycans, illegal drugs, and lawyers from the Walt Disney corporation.
