Barnett out! (1 Viewer)

Heard on the radio 1250AM in Milwaukee, sound bite from McCarthy's press conf. Will probably have a link when JSonline update around 10:30 PM Central.

Is Hodge worth starting this week then?
Probably not, but it depends on who else you have.
Here is another link. Any idea how this may affect AJ Hawk?http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?sectio...&id=2675633

Hodge is more of a run stuffer two down LB. Barnett played on passing downs with Hawk throughout this season. Late in training camp there were some rumors that Hodge could play on passing downs, but so far that hasn't happened.

Hodge could suprise, but my guess is that with Barnett out, Hawks gets more tackles plus few more chances to blitz and make big plays. Any other opinions?

Unless he's improved greatly over the past two months, and that's unlikely since he's been out with an injury, Hodge had apparently regressed after camp. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Packers play a whole bunch of dime defense -- if Woodson's shoulder holds up -- against the four and five receiver sets the Seahawks like to use. That would leave Hawk as the only LB out there and limit Hodge's upside. Just a guess, though.

I started Hawk, who is doing fine (5 solos) at halftime. Hodge is tearing it up though...4 solos and 1 FR returned for a TD. Big game already.

Hasselbeck is stinking it up! The Packers should be up by 3 touchdowns.

Hodge looks good to me.

Half time and he has 4.5 tk, fr and a td.

I can't tell how he is being used by the Pack.

Is he staying in on 3rd downs?

He looked to be playing the strong side on the play where he made the TD?

He's assumed all of Nick Barnett's responsibilities, including short and intermediate zone coverage in the nickel. The Packers aren't playing much dime at all.

Well, I am wondering how all this is going to play out this year and next.

Article from Blogger-Rookie Hodge to start for injured Barnett

Barnett/Hodge thread with another Barnett/Hodge thread link inside.

It appears Hodge did OK in the position and Barnett MAY be week to week. He thought about playing with the 'club' but it became too painful.

Enter Hodge.

Will Barnett get his position back sending Hodge back to the bench or do they shuffel the LB's around much to Barnett's chagrin?

I think Barnett is signed through 07?

Any insight?

They played Nickle as their base defense against the 3-wide and Hodge played inside w/ Hawk. Hodge looked a bit mechanical and missed some easy tackles on Alexander as he looked to be a 1/2 step slow in his first serious action. His coverage skills looked solid 5-10 yards passed the LOS but more erratic the deeper he got. My guess is if he gets to mature he will do well and has a ceiling much like Demeco Ryans (w/o being over-hyped). His size was a concern (stupid measureables) but he's put together more solidly than his ht/wt would suggest.

Before last night the Packers had yet to give up 100 yards rushing to any player this season.

Barnett isn't the second coming and Shaun Alexander is a great player, but 200+ yards rushing in the lone game Barnett misses makes me think he's a bit better at MLB than he's often given credit for.

It will be interesting to see what the Packers do at LB moving forward...no word yet.
