Bates Gone (1 Viewer)

Hell, I rooted for the Pack through the 80's.  I'll root for them through anything.

While in college at UW Eau Claire, I actually went to the Packer/Viking game at the Dome during the strike in 1987. Got to see such greats as Paul Ott Carruth at RB and Alan Risher at QB.
Hey, fellow Bulgold here!
Me too
I made it a priority to never live more than one block from Water Street. :banned:
Oh yeah. Used to live right next o the Holiday station on Water. Good times. :banned:
The new Com is nice, but it just isn't the same.

So then you're a frontrunner, not a fan.

Understood.

No need for name calling. A fan frontrunner who would like to see good things happen. I aint seeing that. You're an idiot too but I wont say that here.
Namecalling? You're the little child who has to resort to name calling. I just pointed out that you are a frontrunner, not a fan. From what I'm reading, looks like I'm in the majority. Now go root for your Steelers, Broncos, Seahawks, or Panthers.

:bye:
You of all people should cut him some slack MrPack. How many times have you screamed the sky is falling around here? I've seen it linked to in multiple threads. He's just an upset fan like some of us others.

People need to separate a few things things here. One, TT thought Mcarthy was the best coach for the job, which is why he got hired. Two, Bates was pissed off he didn't get the HC job and decided to leave. These are two separate things. Yet we hear people saying things like "why not hire Bates, then maybe Favre would come back, now we may have neither Bates nor Favre!". The answer is you hire the best person for the job. You don't hire the someone to make their egos feel better, so that you can hold on to some non-existant run to the super bowl one last time. And that's the thing, everyone is thinking "but Brett has a few more years, we can go to the SB again!" Not going to happen. You're not going to turn this team around in one or two years, sorry. You may build the team to become better, but Brett's not going to get another ring in the time he has left.So TT made the right call. Get your guy who can start building for the future, and let Bates and Favre make their own decisions on theirs. They're big boys, they don't need to be coddled. If anything, this lets the Pack get back into the hunt *faster* because we're not dicking around trying to throw together a team in a year for "one last run".And what's with all the bandwagon jumpers in this thread? If you want off the bandwagon, see ya, you won't be missed. Part of the reason the return to glory in the 90's was so sweet was because we had to endure the Packers of the 70's and 80's. You people who just pick the hot team every year have no idea what that kind of success after years of mediocrety feels like.

First, you're in MN so you should know a bandwagon jumper when you see one (Hint: they usually wear purple). Second, for me it's not about getting back to the Super Bowl for Brett or appeasing someone's ego. It's about having concern for your team. I didn't expect Bates to get the HC job, but I thought they would get someone decent, not someone that has spent most of his career with losing teams. Maybe I'm wrong, and as I've said before I would love nothing more than to be wrong about that and have the Pack be successful. I'm just expressing my concern for the outlook of the team and I have by no means left any bandwagon.

I also have major reservations regarding Thompson, but that's another thread.

Take this as you will, but rumor from my BIL who lives in GB, they are looking at bringing back Emmitt Thomas to be DC. Yet another coach from that average 99 group.

Isn't he rather old now?

Obviously I should have read the board here a bit more before posting. Is Gray the man for sure?
