Beacon Technology (looking for insight from business owners and marketers) (1 Viewer)

I was introduced recently to a beacon technology program - the only one I had heard of was the Facebook beacon or beacons associated with an app. I was impressed and decided to sign up with minimal commitment. Without finding much info online about the benefits, I can only assume that something like this could have significant impact on marketing if used properly. Has anyone else had any experience using beacons to send out messages to smartphone users within a proximity of the beacon? I'd like to have some more info that I can use to share this with others. Yes, they do have an affiliate program but my intention here is to get info, not customers. If you are interested, you can always message me, but I'm really interested in some specific testimonials/reviews of this technology. Thanks!

There is one guy that I know had a lot of experience with this. He was always talking about beacons and looking for others to talk to about it. He really encouraged PM's. Can't think of his name right now. Anyone know who Im talking about?

We did beacons as a free trial in our stores as part of our third party advertising just to see if it evolved into something. It didn't generate any revenue and met with very limited success because you had to download a proprietary app.

They're working on the next big thing now. We'll see what they learned from it.

I certainly wouldn't pay someone to put this in.

Good info Johnny. I talked to owner of a bar/grill and he used the Facebook beacon. He was very happy with the results and swears that it helped his business grow. I can see how downloading the app would prohibit success. Just another hurdle to jump through. That's why the big companies give away something good for free in order to get you to download. Supposedly things have changed now and beacons can send messages through notifications without an app. Very subtle and you must be in the radius of the beacon signal, but apparently a newer technology that we may see more of. We'll see if anyone else has any more experience to share...
